1 - حدثنا الشيخ الجليل أبو جعفر محمد بن علي بن الحسين بن موسى ابن بابويه القمي (رضي الله عنه)، قال: حدثنا أبي (رحمه الله)، قال: حدثنا سعد بن عبد الله، قال: حدثنا محمد بن الحسين بن أبي الخطاب، عن علي بن النعمان، عن عبد الله بن طلحة، عن الصادق جعفر بن محمد، عن أبيه، عن آبائه (عليهم السلام)، قال: قال رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله): الصائم في عبادة الله، وإن كان نائما على فراشه، ما لم يغتب مسلما (1).

Abu Ja`far Muhammad b. `Ali b. al-Husayn b. Musa b. Babuwayh al-Qummi (ra) narrated to us. He said: My father (rh) narrated to us. He said: Sa`d b. `Abdullah narrated to us. He said: Muhammad b. al-Husayn b. Abi’l Khattab narrated to us from `Ali b. al-Nu`man from `Abdullah b. Talha from al-Sadiq Ja`far b. Muhammad from his father from his forefathers (as). He said: The Messenger of Allah (s) said: The fasting person is in the worship of Allah, even when he is sleeping on his bed; as long as he is not backbiting a Muslim.

2 - حدثنا محمد بن الحسن بن أحمد بن الوليد (رضي الله عنه)، قال: حدثنا محمد بن الحسن الصفار، عن يعقوب بن يزيد، عن محمد بن سنان، عن غياث بن إبراهيم، عن الصادق جعفر بن محمد، عن أبيه، عن آبائه (عليهم السلام)، قال: قال رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله): من صام يوما تطوعا ابتغاء ثواب الله وجبت له المغفرة (2).

Muhammad b. al-Hasan b. Ahmad b. al-Walid (ra) narrated to us. He said: Muhammad b. al-Hasan al-Saffar narrated to us from Ya`qub b. Yazid from Muhammad b. Sinan from Ghiyath b. Ibrahim from al-Sadiq Ja`far b. Muhammad from his father from his forefathers (as). He said: The Messenger of Allah (s) said: Whoever fasts a day piously, seeking the reward of Allah, forgiveness becomes obligatory for him.

875 / 3 - حدثنا محمد بن موسى بن المتوكل (رضي الله عنه)، قال: حدثنا علي بن  الحسين السعد آبادي، عن أحمد بن محمد بن خالد، عن أبيه، عن أبي قتادة القمي، قال: حدثنا عبد الله بن يحيى، عن أبان الاحمر، عن الصادق جعفر بن محمد (عليه السلام)، قال: إن الناس تذاكروا عنده الفتوة، فقال: أتظنون أن الفتوة بالفسق والفجور؟ كلا إنما الفتوة والمروة طعام موضوع، ونائل مبذول، واصطناع المعروف، وأذى مكفوف، فأما تلك فشطارة وفسق. ثم قال (عليه السلام): ما المروة؟ فقلنا: لا نعلم. قال: المروة والله أن يضع الرجل خوانه بفناء داره، والمروة مروتان: مروة في الحضر، ومروة في السفر، فأما التي في الحضر فتلاوة القرآن، ولزوم المساجد، والمشي مع الاخوان في الحوائج، والانعام على الخادم فإنه مما يسر الصديق ويكبت العدو، وأما التي في السفر فكثرة الزاد وطيبه وبذله لمن كان معك، وكتمانك على القوم سرهم بعد مفارقتك إياهم، وكثرة المزاح في غير ما يسخط الله عزوجل. ثم قال (عليه السلام): والذي بعث جدي (صلى الله عليه وآله) بالحق نبيا، إن الله عزوجل ليرزق العبد على قدر المروة، وإن المعونة لتنزل من السماء على قدر المؤونة، وإن الصبر لينزل على قدر شدة البلاء (1).

قال

Muhammad b. Musa b. al-Mutawakkil (ra) narrated to us. He said: `Ali b. al-Husayn al-Sa`d Abadi narrated to us from Ahmad b. Muhammad b. Khalid from his father from Abi Qutada al-Qummi He said: `Abdullah b. Yahya narrated to us from Aban al-Ahmar from al-Sadiq Ja`far b. Muhammad (as). He said: The people mentioned chivalry (futuwwa) around him, so he said: Do you think that chivalry is immorality and indecency? No, rather, chivalry and masculinity (muru’a) are not but feeding much, taking little, doing good, and withholding from harm – everything else is evil and immoral. Then, he (as) said: What is masculinity? So, we said: We do not know. He said: Masculinity is, by Allah, when a man puts his brothers before himself. There are two [types of] masculinities: (1) masculinity whilst present, and (2) masculinity whilst travelling. As for masculinity whilst present, it is reciting the Quran, sticking to the mosques, walking to the needs of the brothers, and being good to the servant, for this is what brings joy to the friend and anguish to the enemy. As for that whilst travelling, it is increasing in provisions and giving it to those with you, keeping the secrets of the people after you have separated for them, and being light-hearted in a way that does not anger Allah. Then, he (as) said: By Him who truly raised my grandfather (s) as a prophet! Surely, Allah will give sustenance to the worshiper in proportion to [his] masculinity. Aid comes down from heaven in proportion to [his] masculinity. Surely, patience comes down in proportion to the intensity of [his] suffering.

4 - حدثنا الحسين بن أحمد بن إدريس (رضي الله عنه)، قال: حدثنا أبي، قال: حدثنا محمد بن عبد الجبار، عن الحسن بن علي بن أبي حمزة، عن إسماعيل بن عبد الخالق وأبي الصباح الكناني، جميعا، عن أبي بصير، قال: سمعت أبا عبد الله الصادق (عليه السلام) يقول: من كف أذاه عن جاره أقاله الله عزوجل عثرته يوم القيامة، ومن أعف بطنه وفرجه كان في الجنة ملكا محبورا، ومن أعتق نسمة مؤمنة بنى الله عزوجل له بيتا في الجنة (2).

أبا عبد الله الصادق عليه السلام

يقول

Al-Husayn b. Ahmad b. Idris (ra) narrated to us. He said: My father narrated to us. He said: Muhammad b `Abd al-Jabbar narrated to us from al-Hasan b. `Ali b. Abi Hamza from Isma`il b. `Abd al-Khaliq and Abi’l Sabah al-Kinani together from Abi Basir. He said: I heard Aba `Abdillah (as) say: Whoever withholds his harm from his neighbor, Allah will dismiss his offenses on the day of resurrection. Whoever is pure in his stomach and his private, he will be a joyous king in paradise. Whoever frees a believing soul, Allah builds a house for him in paradise.

5 - حدثنا الحسين بن إبراهيم بن أحمد بن هشام المؤدب (رضي الله عنه)،  قال حدثنا محمد بن أبي عبد الله الكوفي، قال: حدثنا محمد بن إسماعيل البرمكي، قال: حدثنا عبد الله بن أحمد، قال: حدثني سليمان بن جعفر الجعفري، قال: قلت لابي الحسن موسى بن جعفر (عليه السلام): يا بن رسول الله، ما تقول في القرآن، فقد اختلف فيه من قبلنا، فقال قوم: إنه مخلوق، وقال قوم: إنه غير مخلوق؟ فقال (عليه السلام): أما إني لا أقول في ذلك ما يقولون، ولكني أقول إنه كلام الله عزوجل (1).

Al-Husayn b. Ibrahim b. Ahmad b. Hisham al-Mu’addab (ra) narrated to us. He said: Muhammad b. Abi `Abdillah al-Kufi narrated to us. He said: Muhammad b. Isma`il al-Barmaki narrated to us. He said: `Abdullah b. Ahmad narrated to us. He said: Sulayman b. Ja`far al-Ja`fari narrated to me. He said: I said to Abi’l Hasan Musa b. Ja`far (as): O son of the Messenger of Allah! What do you say regarding the Quran, for some of us have disagreed regarding it? One group says it is created, [another] group says it is not created. So, he (as) said: I do not say what they say, but rather I say that it is the word of Allah.

6 - حدثنا محمد بن علي ماجيلويه (رحمه الله)، قال: حدثني عمي محمد ابن أبي القاسم، عن محمد بن علي الكوفي، عن محمد بن سنان، عن عيسى النهر يري، عن أبي عبد الله الصادق، عن أبيه، عن آبائه (عليهم السلام)، قال: قال رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله): من عرف الله وعظمه من عفاه من الكلام، وبطنه من الطعام، وعنى نفسه بالصيام والقيام. قالوا: بآبائنا وامهاتنا - يا رسول الله - هؤلاء أولياء الله؟ قال: إن أولياء الله سكتوا فكان سكوتهم ذكرا، ونظروا فكان نظرهم عبرة، ونطقوا فكان نطقهم حكمة، ومشوا فكان مشيهم بين الناس بركة، لولا الآجال التي كتبت عليهم لم تستقر أرواحهم في أجسادهم خوفا من العذاب وشوقا إلى الثواب (2).

Muhammad b. `Ali Majiluwayh (rh) narrated to us. He said: My uncle Muhammad b. Abi’l Qasim narrated to me from Muhammad b. `Ali al-Kufi from Muhammad b. Sinan from `Isa al-Nahri Yari from Abi `Abdillah al-Sadiq from his father from his forefathers (as). He said: The Messenger of Allah (s) said: He who recognizes Allah and His greatness will have purified his speech, [purified] his stomach of food, and supported himself with fasting and standing in prayer. They said: May our mothers and our fathers be your sacrifice, O Messenger of Allah – are these the friends of Allah? He said: The friends of Allah are silent, and their silence is remembrance [of Allah]; they observe, and their observation is a lesson; they speak, and their speech is wisdom; and they walk, and their walking in the midst of the people is a blessing. Were it not for the term decreed for them, their spirits would not have remained settled in their bodies out of fear of punishment and out of desire for reward.

7 - حدثنا جعفر بن علي بن الحسن بن علي بن عبد الله بن المغيرة الكوفي (رضي الله عنه)، قال: حدثني جدي الحسن بن علي، عن جده عبد الله بن المغيرة، عن إسماعيل بن مسلم السكوني، عن الصادق جعفر بن محمد، عن أبيه، عن آبائه (عليهم السلام). قال: قال رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله): أحب إخواني إلي علي بن أبي طالب (عليه السلام)، وأحب أعمامي إلي حمزة (3).

He said: My grandfather al-Hasan b. `Ali narrated to me from his grandfather `Abdullah b. al-Mughira from Isma`il b. Muslim al-Sukuni from al-Sadiq Ja`far b. Muhammad from his father from his forefathers (as). He said: The Messenger of Allah (s) said: The most beloved of my brothers to me is `Ali b. Abi Talib, and the most beloved of my uncles to me is Hamza.

8 - حدثنا أحمد بن الحسن القطان، قال: حدثنا العباس بن الفضل بن شاذان المقري، قال: حدثنا جعفر بن محمد بن هارون، عن عزرة القطان، قال: حدثنا مسعود أبو عبد الله الخلادي، قال: حدثني تليد، عن أبي الحجاف، عن أبي إدريس، عن مجاهد، عن علي (عليه السلام)، قال: قال رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله) لي: يا علي، من فارقك فقد فارقني، ومن فارقني فقد فارق الله عزوجل (1).

Ahmad b. al-Hasan al-Qattan narrated to us. He said: al-`Abbas b. al-Fadl b. Shadhan al-Muqri narrated to us. He said: Ja`far b. Muhammad b. Harun narrated to us from `Uzra al-Qattan. He said: Mas`ud Abu `Abdillah al-Khiladi narrate to us. He said: Tulayd narrated to me from Abi’l Hijaf from Abi Idris from Mujahid from `Ali (as). He said: The Messenger of Allah (s) said to me: O `Ali! Whoever splits away from you has split away from me; and whoever splits away from me has split away from Allah.

9 - حدثنا أبي (رضي الله عنه)، قال: حدثنا سعد بن عبد الله، قال: حدثنا إبراهيم بن محمد الثقفي، قال: حدثنا أبو يوسف يعقوب بن محمد البصري، قال: حدثنا ابن عمارة، قال: حدثنا علي بن أبي الزعزاع البرقي، قال: حدثنا أبو ثابت عبد الكريم الجزري، عن سعيد بن جبير، عن عبد الله بن عباس، قال: جاع النبي (صلى الله عليه وآله) جوعا شديدا، فأتى الكعبة فتعلق بأستارها، فقال: رب محمد، لا تجع محمد أكثر مما أجعته. قال: فهبط جبرئيل (عليه السلام) ومعه لوزة. فقال: يا محمد، إن الله جل جلاله يقرأ عليك السلام. فقال: يا جبرئيل، الله السلام، ومنه السلام، وإليه يعود السلام فقال: إن الله يأمرك أن تفك عن هذه اللوزة، ففك عنها فإذا فيها ورقة خضراء نضرة مكتوب عليها: لا إله إلا الله محمد رسول الله، أيدت محمدا بعلي، ونصرته به، ما أنصف الله من نفصه من أتهم الله في قضائه، واستبطأ في رزقه (2).

جوعا شديدا فأتى الكعبة...فقال...فهبط جبرئيل

My father (ra) narrated to us. He said: Sa`d b. `Abdullah narrated to us. He said: Ibrahim b. Muhammad al-Thaqafi narrated to us. He said: Abu Yusuf Ya`qub b. Muhammad al-Basri narrated to us. He said: Ibn `Ammara narrated to us. He said: `Ali b. Abi’l Za`za` al-Barqi narrated to us. He said: Abu Thabit `Abd al-Karim al-Jazari narrated to us from Sa`id b. Jubayr from `Abdullah b. `Abbas. He said: The Prophet (s) became immensely famished, so he went to the Ka`ba, held onto its cloak, and said: Lord of Muhammad! Do not starve Muhammad more than what You have [already] starved him. He said: So, Gabriel (as) came down to him with an almond. So, he said: O Muhammad! Allah recites the salaam to you. So, he said: O Gabriel! Allah is Peace, and peace is from Him, and peace will return to Him. So, he said: Surely, Allah commands you to break open this almond. So, he broke it open, and a fresh green leaf appeared, upon which it was written: “There is no god but Allah, Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah. Muhammad is aided and supported by `Ali. Allah does not bless those who distrust Allah in His judgment, and He decelerates their sustenance.”

10 - حدثنا أحمد بن محمد بن يحيى العطار (رحمه الله)، قال: حدثنا أبي عن أحمد بن محمد بن خالد، عن أبيه، عن وهب بن وهب القاضي، عن الصادق جعفر بن محمد، عن أبيه، عن آبائه (عليهم السلام)، قال: قال رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله): تنفلوا في ساعة الغفلة ولو بركعتين خفيفتين، فإنهما تورثان دار الكرامة. قيل: يا رسول الله، وما ساعة الغفلة. قال: بين المغرب والعشاء (3).

Ahmad b. Muhammad b. Yahya al-`Attar (rh) narrated to us. He said: My father narrated to us from Ahmad b. Muhammad b. Khalid from his father from Wahb b. Wahb al-Qadi from al-Sadiq Ja`far b. Muhammad from his father from his forefathers (as). He said: The Messenger of Allah (s) said: Perform a voluntary prayer in a time of heedlessness, even if it is only two quick units, for they will bequeath the Abode of Nobility (Paradise). It was said: O Messenger of Allah! What is a time of heedlessness? He said: Between Maghrib and `Isha’.

11 - حدثنا محمد بن الحسن بن أحمد بن الوليد (رضي الله عنه)، قال: حدثنا محمد بن الحسن الصفار، عن علي بن حسان الواسطي، عن عمه عبد الرحمن بن كثير الهاشمي مولى محمد بن علي، عن أبي عبد الله الصادق (عليه السلام)، قال: بينا أمير المؤمنين (صلوات الله عليه) ذات يوم جالس مع ابن الحنفية إذ قال: يا محمد، ائتني بإناء من ماء أتوضأ للصلاة. فأتاه محمد بالماء، فأكفأ بيده اليمنى على يده اليسرى: ثم قال: بسم الله والحمد لله الذي جعل الماء طهورا ولم يجعله نجسا. قال: ثم استنجى، فقال: اللهم حصن فرجي وأعفه، واستر عورتي، وحرمني على النار. قال: ثم تمضمض، فقال: اللهم لقني حجتي يوم ألقاك، وأطلق لساني بذكرك. ثم استنشق، فقال: اللهم لا تحرم علي ريح الجنة، واجعلني ممن يشم ريحها وروحها وطيبها. قال: ثم غسل وجهه، فقال: اللهم بيض وجهي يوم تسود (1) الوجود، ولا تسود وجهي يوم تبيض (2) الوجوه. ثم غسل يده اليمنى فقال: اللهم أعطني كتابي بيميني والخلد في الجنان بيساري، وحاسبني حسابا يسيرا. ثم غسل يده اليسرى، فقال: اللهم لا تعطني كتابي بشمالي، ولا تجعلها مغلولة إلى عنقي، وأعوذ بك من مقطعات النيران. ثم مسح رأسه فقال: اللهم غشني برحمتك وبركاتك وعفوك. ثم مسح رجليه فقال: اللهم ثبت قدمي على الصراط (3) يوم تزل فيه الاقدام، واجعل سعيي فيما يرضيك عني. ثم رفع رأسه فنظر إلى محمد فقال: يا محمد، من توضأ مثل وضوئي وقال مثل قولي، خلق الله عزوجل من كل قطرة ملكا يقدسه ويسبحه ويكبره، ويكتب الله عزوجل له ثواب ذلك إلى يوم القيامة (4).

...ثم قال

Muhammad b. al-Hasan b. Ahmad b. al-Walid (ra) narrated to us. He said: Muhammad b. al-Hasan al-Saffar narrated to us from `Ali b. Hassan al-Wasiti from his uncle `Abd al-Rahman b. Kathir al-Hashimi the servant of Muhammad b. `Ali from Abi `Abdillah al-Sadiq (as). He said: One day, Amir al-Mu’minin (as) was sitting with Ibn Hanafiyya when he said: O Muhammad! Bring me a vessel of water so that I may perform ablution for prayer. So, Muhammad brought him water. Then, he placed his right hand on his left hand and said: In the name of Allah. Praise be to Allah who made water pure and did not make it impure (bismillah walhamdu lillahil lathi ja`alal ma’a tahuran wa lam yaj`alhu najisa). He said: Then, he washed his private and said: O Allah! Protect my private and purify it, cover my private, and forbid me from the Fire (Allahumma hassin farji wa a`ifahu wastur `awrati wa harrimni `alal nar). He said: Then, he rinsed his mouth and said: O Allah! Make me meet my proof on the day I meet You, and make my tongue speak in Your remembrance (Allahumma laqini hujati yawma alqaka wa atliq lisani bi dhikrika). Then, he rinsed his nose and said: O Allah! Do not forbid me from the fragrance of Paradise, and make me of those who smell its fragrance, its rest, and its sweetness (Allahumma la tuharrim `alayya reehal jannati waj`alni mimman yashammu reehaha wa rawhaha wa teebaha). He said: Then, he washed his face and said: O Allah! Illuminate my face on the Day that the faces are darkened, and do not darken my face on the Day that the faces are illuminated (Allahumma bayyidh wajhi yawma taswad fihil wujuh wa la tusawwid wajhi yawm tabyadh fihil wujuh). Then, he washed his right hand and said: O Allah! Give me my Book with my right hand, and immortality in Paradise with my left hand. Judge me with an easy judgment (Allahumma a`tini kitabi biyamini wal khulda fil jinani biyasari wa hasibni hisaban yasira). Then, he washed his left hand and said: O Allah! Do not give me my book by my left hand, and do not bind it to my neck. I seek refuge in You from Hellfire (Allahumma la tu`tani kitabi bishimali wa la taj`alha maghlulatan ila `unuqi wa a`uthu bika min muqta`at al-niran).  Then, he wiped his head and said: O Allah! Cover me in Your mercy, Your blessings, and Your forgiveness (Allahumma ghashini bi rahmatika wa barakatika wa `afwik). Then, he wiped his feet and said: O Allah! Make my feet steadfast upon the Path on the Day that the feet slip off of it and direct my pursuit toward that which pleases You (Allahumma thabbit qadamay `alal sirat yawma tanzilu fihil aqdam, waj`al sa`yi fima yurdeeka `anni). Then, he raised his head, looked to Muhammad and said: O Muhammad! Whoever makes ablution like me and says what I have said, Allah will create an angel for every drop which will sanctify Him, glorify Him, and praise Him; and He will record those as deeds for him on the Day of Resurrection.

12 - حدثنا الحسين بن أحمد بن إدريس (رحمه الله)، قال: حدثنا أبي، قال حدثنا محمد بن عبد الجبار، عن الحسن بن علي بن أبي حمزة، عن سيف بن عميرة، عن منصور بن حازم، عن أبي عبد الله الصادق (عليه السلام)، قال: كان عيسى بن مريم (عليه السلام)، يقول لاصحابه: يا بني آدم، اهربوا من الدنيا إلى الله، وأخرجوا قلوبكم عنها، فإنكم لا تصلحون لها ولا تصلح لكم، ولا تبقون فيها ولا تبقى لكم، هي الخداعة الفجاعة، المغرور من اغتر بها، المغبون من اطمأن إليها، الهالك من أحبها وأرادها، فتوبوا إلى بارئكم، واتقوا ربكم، واخشوا يوما لا يجزي والد عن ولده، ولا مولود هو جاز عن والده شيئا. أين آباؤكم، أين أمهاتكم، أين إخوتكم، أين أخواتكم، أين أولادكم؟ دعوا فأجابوا، واستودعوا الثرى، وجاوروا الموتى، وصاروا في الهلكى، وخرجوا عن الدنيا، وفارقوا الاحبة، واحتاجوا إلى ما قدموا، واستغنوا عما خلفوا، فكم توعظون، وكم تزجرون، وأنتم لاهون ساهون! مثلكم في الدنيا مثل البهائم، همتكم (1) بطونكم وفروجكم، أما تستحيون ممن خلقكم؟! وقد وعد من عصاه النار ولستم ممن يقوى على النار، ووعد من أطاعه الجنة ومجاورته في الفردوس الاعلى، فتنافسوا فيه وكونوا من أهله، وأنصفوا من أنفسكم، وتعطفوا على ضعفائكم وأهل الحاجة منكم، وتوبوا إلى الله توبة نصوحا، وكونوا عبيدا أبرارا، ولا تكونوا ملوكا جبابرة ولا من العتاة الفراعنة المتمردين على من قهرهم بالموت، جبار الجبابرة رب السماوات ورب الارضين، وإله الاولين والآخرين، مالك يوم الدين، شديد العقاب، أليم العذاب، لا ينجو منه ظالم، ولا يفوته شئ، ولا يعزب عنه شئ، ولا يتوارى منه شئ أحصى كل شئ علمه، وأنزله منزلته في جنة أو نار. ابن آدم الضعيف، أين تهرب ممن يطلبك في سواد ليلك وبياض نهارك وفي كل حال من حالاتك، قد أبلغ من وعظ، وأفلح من اتعظ (2).

منصور بن حازم

Al-Husayn b. Ahmad b. Idris (rh) narrated to us. He said: My father narrated to us. He said: Muhammad b. `Abd al-Jabbar narrated to us from al-Hasan b. `Ali b Abi Hamza from Sayf b. `Amira from Mansur b. Hazim from Abi `Abdillah al-Sadiq (as). He said: `Isa b. Maryam (as) would say to his companions: O children of Adam! Run from this world to Allah, and take your hearts out of it, for surely, you will not fix it, nor will it fix you; you will not remain in it, nor will it remain for you. It is deception and grief. Conceited is he who is deceived by it, dismayed is he who is contented by it, and destroyed is he who loves it and wants it. Repent to your Maker, be conscious of your Lord, and fear a Day in which a father will not be rewarded on behalf of his son, nor will a son be rewarded on behalf of his father. Where are your fathers, where are your mothers, where are your brothers, where are your sisters, where are your children? They were called back [by your Lord] and were made to answer. They were placed in graves adjacent to the dead and joined the perished ones. They left this world and departed from their loved ones. They became in need of what was placed before them [in the Hereafter] and became needless of what they left behind [in this world]. So, how much exhortation and how much rebuke do you need while you are distracted and heedless?! Your like in this world is like that of the beasts – your concern is over your stomachs and your privates. Are you not ashamed before Him that created you? He has promised the Fire to those who disobey Him, and you are not capable of overpowering the Fire. He has promised Paradise and living in the Highest Heaven to those who obey Him. So, compete for it and be of its people. Be fair to yourselves. Be gracious to the weak and the needy among you. Repent sincerely to Allah. Be righteous servants, and do not be arrogant kings or haughty pharaohs who oppose Him who conquers them with death – He is the Mighty of the mighty, the Lord of the heavens and the Earths, God of the former and the latter peoples, the Master of the Day of Requital, the stern in reprisal, and the harsh in torment. No oppressor will be delivered from Him, nor does He miss anything, nor is anything left out with Him, nor is anything hidden from Him – His knowledge accounts for all things, and He will place it in Paradise or in the Fire. O weak child of Adam! Where will you run from Him who seeks you in the darkness of your night, and in the illumination of your day, and in every condition of yours? He who is exhorted becomes informed, and he who gives heed will succeed.

- وبهذا الاسناد، عن الحسن بن علي بن أبي حمزة، قال: حدثني محمد بن يوسف، قال: حدثني محمد بن جعفر، عن أبيه جعفر بن محمد، عن آبائه (عليهم السلام)، قال: قال رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله): من تظاهرت عليه النعم فليقل: الحمد لله رب العالمين، ومن ألح عليه الفقر فليكثر من قول: لا حول ولا قوة إلا بالله العلي العظيم، فإنه كنز من كنوز الجنة، وفيه شفاء من اثنين وسبعين داء أدناها الهم (1).

By this isnad from al-Hasan b. `Ali b. Abi Hamza. He said: Muhammad b. Yusuf narrated to me. He said: Muhammad b. Ja`far narrated to me from his father Ja`far b. Muhammad from his forefathers (as). He said: The Messenger of Allah (s) said: When blessings overcome a person, he is to say: “Praise be to Allah (alhamdulillah)”, and when poverty pressures him, he is to say: “There is no ability nor power except by Allah, the High, the Great (la hawla wala quwwata illa billah al-`ali al-`athim)”, for surely, it is a treasure from the treasures of Paradise. In it is a remedy for seventy-two maladies, the lowest of which is worry.

14 - وبهذا الاسناد، عن الحسن بن علي بن أبي حمزة، عن إسماعيل بن دينار، عن عمرو بن ثابت، عن أبي جعفر محمد بن علي الباقر (عليه السلام)، قال: إن أهل النار يتعاوون فيها كما يتعاوى الكلاب والذئاب مما يلقون من ألم العذاب. ما ظنك - يا عمرو - بقوم لا يقضى عليهم فيموتوا، ولا يخفف عنهم من عذابها، عطاش فيها جياع، كليلة أبصارهم، صم بكم عمي، مسودة وجوههم، خاسئين فيها نادمين، مغضوب عليهم فلا يرحمون، ومن العذاب لا (2) يخفف عنهم، وفي النار يسجرون، ومن الحميم يشربون، ومن الزقوم يأكلون، وبكلاليب النار يخطمون، وبالمقامع يضربون، والملائكة الغلاظ الشداد لا يرحمون، فهم في النار يسحبون على وجوههم، ومع الشيطين يقرنون، وفي الانكال (3) والاغلال يصفدون، إن دعوا لم يستجب لهم، وإن سألوا حاجة لم تقض لهم، هذه حال من دخل النار (4).

أبي جعفر محمد بن علي الباقر عليه السلام

By this isnad from al-Hasan b. `Ali b. Abi Hamza from Isma`il b. Dinar from `Amr b. Thabit from Abi Ja`far Muhammad b. `Ali al-Baqir (as). He said: The people will bark in the Fire just as dogs and wolves bark when they are in pain. What do you think, `Amr, of a people who shall die, and its punishment will not be lightened for them, with thirst and hunger therein, with their eyes covered, deaf, dumb, and blind – their faces darkened, at loss and regretful. [Allah is] angry with them, so they will not receive mercy. The punishment will not be lightened for them. They will fall into the Fire, drink boiling water, eat from Zaqqum, and their noses will be hung from hooks of fire. They will be struck with whips of iron, and the angels of torment will be harsh and relentless. Their faces will be pulled in the Fire, and they will be with the devils in deprivation, shackled in chains. Their calls will not be answered, and if they ask for a need, it will not be fulfilled for them. This is the state of those who enter the Fire.

15 - حدثنا علي بن محمد بن موسى (رضي الله عنه)، قال: حدثنا أبو العباس أحمد بن يحيى بن زكريا القطان، قال: حدثنا بكر بن عبد الله بن حبيب، قال: حدثنا عبد الرحيم بن علي بن سعيد الجبلي، قال: حدثنا الحسن بن نصر الخزاز، قال: حدثنا عمرو بن طلحة، عن أسباط بن نصر، عن سماك بن حرب، عن سعيد بن جبير، قال: أتيت عبد الله بن عباس فقلت له: يا بن عم رسول الله، إني جئتك أسألك عن علي بن  أبي طالب واختلاف الناس فيه. فقال ابن عباس: يا بن جبير، جئتني تسألني عن خير خلق الله من الامة بعد محمد نبي الله، جئتني تسألني عن رجل كانت له ثلاثة آلاف منقبة في ليلة واحدة، وهي ليلة القربة (1). يا بن جبير، جئتني تسألني عن وصي رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله) ووزيره، وخليفته، وصاحب حوضه ولوائه وشفاعته. والذي نفس ابن عباس بيده، لو كانت بحار الدنيا مدادا، وأشجارها أقلاما، وأهلها كتابا، فكتبوا مناقب علي بن أبي طالب (عليه السلام) وفضائله من يوم خلق الله عزوجل الدنيا إلى أن يفنيها ما بلغوا معشار ما آتاه الله تبارك وتعالى (2).

قال أتيت

فقلت له يا بن عم رسول الله إني جئتك أسألك عن علي بن أبي طالب...فقال

`Ali b. Muhammad b. Musa (ra) narrated to us. He said: Abu’l `Abbas Ahmad b. Yahya b. Zakariyya al-Qattan narrated to us. He said: Bakr b. `Abdullah b. Habib narrated to us. He said: `Abd al-Rahman b. `Ali b. Sa`id al-Jabali narrated to us. He said: Al-Hasan b. Nasr al-Khazzaz narrated to us. He said: `Amr b. Talha narrated to us from Asbat b. Nasr from Simak b. Harb from Sa`id b. Jubayr. He said: I met `Abdullah b. `Abbas and said to him: O cousin of the Messenger of Allah! I have come to you to ask you about `Ali b. Abi Talib and the people’s differing over him. So, Ibn `Abbas said: O Ibn Jubayr! You have come to me to ask me about the best of the creation in the Nation after Muhammad the prophet of Allah. You have come to me to ask me about a man who received three thousand virtues in one night, and that is the Night of al-Qurba (when three thousand angels greeted `Ali). O Ibn Jubayr! You have come to me to ask me about the deputy of the Messenger of Allah (s) and his vizier, his vicegerent (khalifa), and the master of his Pond, his Banner, and his intercession. By Him in whose hand is the soul of Ibn `Abbas! Had the oceans of this world been ink, and had its trees been pens, and had its people been scribes, and they wrote the qualities and virtues of `Ali b. Abi Talib (as) from the day Allah created this world until the day He ends it, they would not be able to exhaust all of what Allah has given him.

16 - وبهذا الاسناد، عن بكر بن عبد الله بن حبيب، قال: حدثنا تميم بن بهلول، عن إسماعيل بن أبان، عن سلام بن أبي عمرة، عن معروف بن خربوذ، عن أبي الطفيل، عن الحسن بن علي بن أبي طالب (عليه السلام)، قال: سمعت رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله) يقول: أنا سيد النبيين، وعلي بن أبي طالب سيد الوصيين، والحسن والحسين سيدا شباب أهل الجنة، والائمة بعدهما سادات المتقين، ولينا ولي الله، وعدونا عدو الله، وطاعتنا طاعة الله، ومعصيتنا معصية الله عزوجل (3).

By this isnad from Bakr b. `Abdullah b. Habib. He said: Tamim b. Bahlul narrated to us from Isma`il b. Aban from Salam b. Abi `Amra from Ma`ruf b. Kharbudh from Abi’l Tufayl from al-Hasan b. `Ali b. Abi Talib (as). He said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (s) say: I am the Master of the Prophets, and `Ali b. Abi Talib is the Master of the Deputies, and al-Hasan and al-Husayn are the Masters of the Youth of the People of Paradise, and the Imams after them are the Masters of the Godfearing. Our friends are the friends of Allah, and our enemies are the enemies of Allah. Obedience to us is obedience to Allah, and disobedience of us is disobedience of Allah.

17 - حدثنا محمد بن إبراهيم بن إسحاق (رضي الله عنه)، قال: أخبرنا أحمد ابن محمد الهمداني، قال: أخبرنا علي بن الحسن بن علي بن فضال، عن أبيه، عن أبي الحسن علي بن موسى الرضا (عليه السلام): أنه قال: نحن سادة في الدنيا وملوك في الآخرة (4).
