- حدثنا الشيخ الفقيه أبو جعفر محمد بن علي بن الحسين بن موسى ابن بابويه القمي (رضي الله عنه)، قال: حدثنا أبي (رضي الله عنه)، قال: حدثنا علي بن إبراهيم، عن أبيه إبراهيم بن هاشم، عن صفوان بن يحيى، عن أبي الصباح الكناني، قال: قلت للصادق جعفر بن محمد (عليه السلام): أخبرني عن هذا القول: قول من هو؟ أسأل الله الايمان والتقوى، وأعوذ بالله من شر عاقبة الامور، إن أشرف الحديث ذكر الله، ورأس الحكمة طاعته، وأصدق القول وأبلغ الموعظة وأحسن القصص كتاب الله، وأوثق العرى الايمان بالله، وخير الملل ملة إبراهيم، وأحسن السنن سنة أنبياء الله، وأحسن الهدى هدى محمد (صلى الله عليه وآله). وخير الزاد التقوى، وخير العلم ما نفع، وخير الهدى ما اتبع، وخير الغنى غنى النفس، وخير ما ألقي في القلب اليقين، وزينة الحديث الصدق، وزينة العلم الاحسان، وأشرف الموت قتل الشهادة، وخير الامور خيرها عاقبة، وما قل وكفى خير مما كثر وإلهى، والشقي من شقي في بطن أمه، والسعيد من وعظ بغيره، وأكيس  الكيس التقى، وأحمق الحمق الفجور، وشر الرواية الكذب، وشر الامور محدثاتها (1)، وشر العمى عمى القلب، وشر الندامة ندامة يوم القيامة، وأعظم المخطئين عند الله عز وجل لسان كذاب، وشر الكسب كسب الربا، وشر المآكل أكل مال اليتيم ظلما، وأحسن زينة الرجل السكينة مع الايمان. ومن يبتغ السمعة يسمع (2) الله به، ومن يعرف البلاء يصبر عليه، ومن لا يعرفه ينكره، والريب كفر، ومن يستكبر يضعه الله، ومن يطع الشيطان يعص الله، ومن يعص الله يعذبه الله، ومن يشكر الله يزده الله، ومن يصبر على الرزية يغثه الله، ومن يتوكل على الله فحسبه الله. لا تسخطوا الله برضا أحد من خلقه، ولا تتقربوا إلى أحد من الخلق بتباعد من الله عز وجل، فإن الله ليس بينه وبين أحد من الخلق شئ يعطيه به خيرا أو يصرف به عنه سوءا إلا بطاعته وابتغاء مرضاته، إن طاعة الله نجاح كل خير يبتغى، ونجاة من كل شر يتقى، وإن الله يعصم من أطاعه ولا يعتصم منه من عصاه، ولا يجد الهارب من الله مهربا، فإن أمر الله نازل بإذلاله ولو كره الخلائق، وكل ما هو آت قريب، ما شاء الله كان وما لم يشأ لم يكن، تعاونوا على البر والتقوى، ولا تعاونوا على الاثم والعدوان، واتقوا الله إن الله شديد العقاب. قال: فقال لي الصادق جعفر بن محمد (عليه السلام): هذا قول رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله) (3).

Abu Ja`far Muhammad b. `Ali b. al-Husayn b. Musa b. Babuwayh al-Qummi (ra) narrated to us. He said: My father (ra) narrated to us. He said: `Ali b. Ibrahim narrated to us from his father Ibrahim b. Hashim from Safwan b. Yahya from Abi’l Sabah al-Kinani. He said: I said to al-Sadiq Ja`far b. Muhammad (as): Inform me of this saying – whose saying is it? –: I ask Allah for faith and God-consciousness, and I seek refuge in Allah from the evil consequences of things. Surely, the most honourable of speech is the remembrance of Allah, and the peak of wisdom is obedience to Him. The most truthful of sayings, the most articulate of exhortations, and the most beautiful of stories is the Book of Allah. The most trustworthy virtue is faith in Allah, and the best of ways is the way of Ibrahim, and the best of traditions is the tradition of the prophets of Allah, and the best of guidance is the guidance of Muhammad (s), and the best of possessions is God-consciousness, and the best of knowledge is that which is of benefit, and the best of guidance is that which is followed, and the best of riches is being needless of the people, and the best thing to come to the heart is certainty. The adornment of speech is honesty, and the adornment of knowledge is beautification. The best of deaths is being killing in martyrdom. The best of affairs is that which has the best consequence and so on in goodness. The wretched is [known as] wretched in the womb of his mother, and the blissful is he who learns from the example of others. The best goodness is the pious, and the most foolish of fools is the immoral. The evillest of reports is the lie, and the evillest of affairs is innovation [in religion], and the evillest of blindness is the blindness of the heart, and the worst of regrets is the regret on the Day of Resurrection. The greatest of sinners with Allah is one with a lying tongue. The evillest of gains is gaining usury, and the evillest of consumption is wrongfully consuming the wealth of the orphan. The most beautiful adornment for a man is serenity in faith. Whoever desires reputation, Allah will ruin his reputation. Whoever recognizes [the nature of] tribulation is patient with it, and whoever does not recognize it denies it. Doubt is disbelief. Whoever is arrogant, Allah will put him down. Whoever follows Satan disobeys Allah, and whoever disobeys Allah, Allah will punish him. Whoever thanks Allah, Allah increases for him. Whoever is patient over a calamity, Allah helps him. Whoever relies on Allah, Allah will be sufficient or him. Do not disobey Allah to please one of His creatures, and do not gain the proximity of a creature by distancing yourself from Allah, for there is nothing obliging Allah to give goodness to or repel harm from the creation except obedience and seeking His pleasure. Surely, obeying Allah is the triumph of every desired good, and the triumph over every fearful evil. Surely, Allah protects he who obeys Him, and He does not protect he who disobeys Him. One who retreats from Allah will find no place to retreat to, for surely, the command of Allah will come down to humiliate him, even if the creatures may be averse. Everything that is coming is near – whatever Allah willed has occurred, and whatever He has not willed will not occur. Help one another in righteousness and piety, and do not help one another in sin and aggression. Fear Allah, for Allah is stern in reprisal. He said: So, Al-Sadiq Ja`far b. Muhammad (as) said to me: This is a saying of the Messenger of Allah (s).

2 - حدثنا محمد بن الحسن بن أحمد بن الوليد (رضي الله عنه)، قال: حدثنا محمد بن الحسن الصفار، قال: حدثنا أحمد بن عيسى، عن الحسن بن علي بن فضال، عن مروان بن مسلم، قال: قال أبو عبد الله جعفر بن محمد الصادق (عليه السلام):  حدثني أبي، عن آبائه (عليهم السلام)، عن رسول الله (صلى الله عليه واله)، قال: قال الله جل جلاله: أيما عبد أطاعني لم أكله إلى غيري، وأيما عبد عصاني وكلته إلى نفسه، ثم لم أبال في أي واد هلك (1).

Muhammad b. al-Hasan b. Ahmad b. al-Walid (ra) narrated to us. He said: Muhammad b. al-Hasan al-Saffar narrated to us. He said: Ahmad b. `Isa from al-Hasan b. `Ali b. Faddal from Marwan b. Muslim. He said: Abu `Abdillah Ja`far b. Muhammad al-Sadiq (as) said: My father narrated to me from his forefathers (as) from the Messenger of Allah (s).  He said: Allah said: When a servant obeys Me, I do not assign him to one other than Me. When a servant disobeys Me, I assign him to himself, then I do not care which valley he perishes in.

3 - حدثنا محمد بن موسى بن المتوكل (رحمه الله)، قال: حدثنا علي بن إبراهيم، عن أبيه إبراهيم بن هاشم، عن محمد بن أبي عمير، قال: حدثني من سمع أبا عبد الله الصادق (عليه السلام) يقول: ما أحب الله عز وجل من عصاه، ثم تمثل فقال: تعصي الاله وأنت تظهر حبه * * هذا محال في الفعال بديع لو كان حبك صادقا لاطعته * * إن المحب لمن يحب مطيع (2)

أبا عبد الله الصادق عليه السلام

يقول

Muhammad b. Musa b. al-Mutawakkil (rh) narrated to us. He said: `Ali b. Ibrahim narrated to us from his father Ibrahim b. Hashim from Muhammad b. Abi `Umayr. He said: One who heard Aba `Abdillah al-Sadiq (as) heard him saying: One who disobeys Allah does not love him. Then, he recited: You disobey God yet you manifest your love for Him. This is impossible. Had you loved Him, you would have obeyed Him. Surely, the lover obeys the one he loves.

4 - وبهذا الاسناد، قال: كان الصادق جعفر بن محمد (عليه السلام) يقول لكل أناس دولة يرقبونها * * ودولتنا في آخر الدهر تظهر (3)

By this isnad, he said: Al-Sadiq Ja`far b. Muhammad (as) would say: For every people is a government that they draw near to, And our government at the End of Time will manifest.

5 - وبهذا الاسناد قال: كان الصادق (عليه السلام) كثيرا ما يقول: علم المحجة واضح لمريده * * وأرى القلوب عن المحجة في عمى ولقد عجبت لهالك ونجاته * * موجودة، ولقد عجبت لمن نجا (4)

By this isnad, he said: Al-Sadiq (as) would frequently say: The knowledge of the plain is clear for him who seeks it But I see the hearts are blinded from the plain, I am astonished at him who perishes when his salvation is present, And I am astonished at him who is saved [despite the plenitude of those who perish].

6 - وبهذا الاسناد، قال: كان الصادق (عليه السلام) يقول: اعمل على مهل فإنك ميت * * واختر لنفسك أيها الانسان فكأن ما قد كان لم يك إذ مضى * * وكأن ما هو كائن قد كان (5)

By this isnad. He said: Al-Sadiq (as) would say: Be steady in your actions, for surely, you will die, Decide for yourself, O human, For it is as though what is past did not occur at all, And what is present is already past.

7 - حدثنا أحمد بن الحسن القطان، قال: حدثنا الحسن بن علي السكري، قال: حدثنا محمد بن زكريا الجوهري، قال: حدثنا عبد الله بن الضحاك، قال: حدثني هشام بن محمد، عن أبيه، قال هشام: وأخبرني ببعضه أبو مخنف لوط بن  يحيى وغير واحد من العلماء، في كلام كان بين الحسن بن علي بن أبي طالب (عليه السلام) وبين الوليد بن عقبة، فقال له الحسن (عليه السلام): لا ألومك أن تسب عليا (عليه السلام) وقد جلدك في الخمر ثمانين سوطا، وقتل أباك صبرا بأمر رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله) في يوم بدر، وقد سماه الله عز وجل في غير آية مؤمنا، وسماك فاسقا، وقد قال الشاعر فيك وفي علي (عليه السلام): أنزل الله في الكتاب علينا * * في علي وفي الوليد قرآنا فتبوأ الوليد منزل كفر * * وعلي تبوأ الايمانا ليس من كان مؤمنا يعبد الله * * كمن كان فاسقا خوانا سوف يدعى الوليد بعد قليل * * وعلي إلى الجزاء عيانا فعلي يجزى هناك جنانا * * وهناك الوليد يجزى هوانا (1)

Ahmad b. al-Hasan al-Qattan narrated to us. He said: Al-Hasan b. `Ali al-Sikri narrated to us. He said: Muhammad b. Zakariyya al-Jawhari narrated to us. He said: `Abdullah b. al-Dahhak narrated to us. He said: Hisham b. Muhammad narrated to us from his father. Hisham said: Some of it was narrated to me by Abu Mikhnaf Lut b. Yahya and another person from the scholars regarding some words between al-Hasan b. `Ali b. Abi Talib (as) and al-Walid b. `Uqba (the maternal half-brother of `Uthman b. `Affan). Al-Hasan (as) said to him: I do not blame you for insulting `Ali (as), as he lashed you eighty times for drinking wine, and he killed your father in the time of the Messenger of Allah (s) in the Day of Badr, and, in another verse, Allah called him a believer and called you a transgressor (fasiq). The poet said, regarding you and `Ali (as): Allah revealed in His Book to us A recitation that classifies al-Walid in the position of disbelief And classifies `Ali in the position of faith, A believer who worships Allah Is not like a traitorous transgressor. Then, after a short while, al-Walid would be summoned, And `Ali will await the recompense, `Ali will be rewarded with Gardens, And al-Walid will earn his consequence.

8 - حدثنا علي بن أحمد بن موسى الدقاق (رحمه الله)، قال: حدثنا أبو العباس أحمد بن يحيى بن زكريا القطان، قال: حدثنا بكر بن عبد الله بن حبيب، قال: حدثنا عمر بن عبد الله، قال: حدثنا الحسن بن الحسين بن عاصم، قال: حدثني عيسى ابن عبد الله بن محمد بن عمر بن علي، عن أبيه، عن جده، عن علي (عليه السلام)، قال: حدثني سلمان الخير (رضي الله عنه)، فقال: يا أبا الحسن، قلما أقبلت أنت وأنا عند رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله) إلا قال: يا سلمان، هذا وحزبه هم المفلحون يوم القيامة (2).

`Ali b. Ahmad b. Musa al-Daqqaq (rh) narrated to us. He said: Abu’l `Abbas Ahmad b. Yahya b. Zakariyya al-Qattan narrated to us. He said: Bakr b. `Abdullah b. Habib narrated to us. He said: `Umar b. `Abdullah narrated to us. He said: Al-Hasan b. al-Husayn b. `Asim narrated to us. He said: `Isa b. `Abdullah b. Muhammad b. `Umar b. `Ali narrated to us from his father from his grandfather from `Ali (as). He said: Salman the Good (ra) narrated to me, saying: O Aba’l Hasan! Rarely do you and I visit the Messenger of Allah (s) and he does not say: “O Salman! This [`Ali] and his party are the triumphant on the Day of Resurrection.”

9 - وبهذا الاسناد، عن بكر بن عبد الله بن حبيب، قال: حدثني عطية بن إسماعيل بن إبراهيم الانصاري، قال: حدثنا أبو عمارة محمد بن أحمد الخشاب، قال: حدثنا العباس بن يزيد النجراني وإسحاق بن إبراهيم الوراق، قالا: حدثنا ضرار ابن صرد، قال: حدثنا المعتمر بن سليمان، عن أبيه، عن الحسن، عن أنس بن مالك،  قال: قال النبي (صلى الله عليه وآله): علي يبين لامتي ما اختلفوا فيه من بعدي (1).

Yazid al-Najrani and Ishaq b. Ibrahim al-Warraq narrated to us. They said: Dirar b. Sard narrated to us. He said: al-Mu`tamar b. Sulayman narrated to us from his father from al-Hasan from Anas b. Malik. He said: The Prophet (s) said: `Ali will clarify that which my Nation will disagree about after me.

10 - وبهذا الاسناد، عن بكر بن عبد الله، قال: حدثنا محمد بن عبيد الله وعبد الله بن الصلت الجحدري، قالا: حدثنا ابن عائشة، عن عبد الله بن عبد الرحمن الهمداني، عن أبيه، قال: لما دفن علي بن أبي طالب فاطمة (عليهما السلام)، قام على شفير القبر، وذلك في جوف الليل، لانه كان دفنها ليلا، ثم أنشأ يقول: لكل اجتماع من خليلين فرقة * * وكل الذي دون الممات قليل وإن افتقادي واحدا بعد واحد * * دليل على أن لا يدوم خليل سيعرض عن ذكري وتنسى مودتي * * ويحدث بعدي للخيل خليل (2)

By this isnad from Bakr b. `Abdullah. He said: Muhammad b. `Ubaydullah and `Abdullah b. al-Salt al-Juhdari narrated to us. They said: Ibn `A’isha narrated to us from `Abdullah b. `Abd al-Rahman al-Hamadani from his father. He said: When `Ali b. Abi Talib buried Fatima (as), he stood at the edge of the grave. This was in the middle of the night because he had buried her at night. Then, he recited: For every meeting between two lovers there is a departure, And all that is done [together] before death is brief, My loss of one person after the other Is an indication that the lover is not everlasting, My remembrance will cease, and my love will be forgotten, And my lover will have a lover after me.

11 - حدثنا أحمد بن محمد بن يحيى العطار (رضي الله عنه)، قال: حدثنا سعد بن عبد الله، عن يعقوب بن يزيد، عن محمد بن أبي عمير، عن عيسى الفراء، عن عبد الله بن أبي يعفور، قال: سمعت أبا عبد الله الصادق (عليه السلام) يقول: قال أبو جعفر الباقر (عليه السلام): من كان ظاهره أرجح من باطنه، خف ميزانه (3).

Ahmad b. Muhammad b. Yahya al-`Attar (ra) narrated to us. He said: Sa`d b `Abdullah narrated to us from Ya`qub b. Yazid from Muhammad b. Abi `Umayr from `Isa al-Fara’ from `Abdullah b. Abi Ya`fur. He said: I heard Aba `Abdillah al-Sadiq (as) say: Abu Ja`far al-Baqir (as) said: Whoever’s appearances are weightier [in deeds] than his inside, his Scale [of good deeds] will be lightened.

12 - حدثنا الحسين بن أحمد بن إدريس (رضي الله عنه)، قال: حدثنا أبي، عن محمد بن الحسين بن أبي الخطاب، عن علي بن أسباط، عن مالك بن مسمع بن مالك، عن سماعة بن مهران، عن أبي عبد الله الصادق جعفر بن محمد (عليهما السلام)، قال: قال: يا سماعة، لا ينفك المؤمن من خصال أربع: من جار يؤذيه، وشيطان يغويه، ومنافق يقفو أثره، ومؤمن يحسده. قلت: جعلت فداك، مؤمن يحسده؟ قال: يا سماعة، أما إنه أشدهم عليه. قلت: وكيف ذاك؟ قال: لانه يقول فيه القول فيصدق عليه (4).

Al-Husayn b. Ahmad b. Idris (ra) narrated to us. He said: My father narrated to us from Muhammad b. al-Husayn b. Abi’l Khattab from `Ali b. Asbat from Malik b. Masma` b. Malik from Sama`a b. Mehran from Abi `Abdillah al-Sadiq Ja`far b. Muhammad (as). He said: O Sama`a! There are four problems that a believer will not escape: (1) A neighbour that will harm him, (2) a devil that will deceive him, (3) a hypocrite that will follow him, and (4) a believer that will envy him. I said: May I be your sacrifice! A believer that envies him? He said: O Sama`a! He is the harshest of them. I said: How is that? He said: Because he will say something against him, and he will be believed in that.

13 - حدثنا أحمد بن زياد بن جعفر الهمداني (رضي الله عنه)، قال: حدثنا  علي بن إبراهيم بن هاشم، قال: حدثنا جعفر بن سلمة الاهوازي، قال: حدثنا إبراهيم ابن محمد الثقفي، قال: حدثنا محمد بن عبد الله الكوفي، قال: حدثنا همام، قال حدثنا علي بن جميل الرقي، قال: حدثنا ليث، عن مجاهد، عن عبد الله بن عباس، قال: كنا جلوسا في محفل (1) من أصحاب رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله)، ورسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله) فينا، فرأينا رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله) وقد أشار بطرفه إلى السماء، فنظرنا فرأينا سحابة قد أقبلت فقال لها: أقبلي، فأقبلت، ثم قال لها: أقبلي، فأقبلت، ثم قال لها: أقبلي، فأقبلت، فرأينا رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله) وقد قام قائما على قدميه، فأدخل يديه في السحاب حتى استبان لنا بياض إبطي رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله)، فاستخرج من ذلك السحاب جامة (2) بيضاء مملوءة رطبا، فأكل النبي (صلى الله عليه وآله)، من الجام، وسبح الجام في كف رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله)، فناوله علي بن أبي طالب، فأكل علي (عليه السلام) من الجام، فسبح الجام في كف علي (عليه السلام). فقال رجل: يا رسول الله، أكلت من الجام، وناولته علي بن أبي طالب! فأنطق الله عز وجل الجام، وهو يقول: لا إله إلا الله، خالق الظلمات والنور، اعلموا معاشر الناس أني هدية الصادق إلى نبيه الناطق، ولا يأكل مني إلا نبي أو وصي نبي (3).

Ahmad b. Ziyad b. Ja`far al-Hamadani (ra) narrated to us. He said: Ibrahim b. Muhammad al-Thaqafi narrated to us. He said: Muhammad b. `Abdullah al-Kufi narrated to us. He said: Hammam narrated to us. He said: `Ali b. Jamil al-Raqqi narrated to us. He said: Layth narrated to us from Mujahid from `Abdullah b. `Abbas. He said: We were sitting in a gathering place belonging to a companion of the Messenger of Allah (s), and the Messenger of Allah (s) was with us. We saw the Messenger of Allah (s) pointing toward the sky. So, we looked, and we saw a cloud proceeding [toward us]. So, he said to it: “Come forth.” Then, it proceeded [further]. Then, he said to it: “Come forth.” Then, it proceeded. Then, he said to it: “Come forth.” Then, it proceeded. Then, we saw the Messenger of Allah (s) stand on his feet, and his hand reached into the cloud until we saw the whiteness of the armpits of the Messenger of Allah (s). Then, he took a white vessel filled with fresh dates out of it. So, the Prophet (s) ate from the vessel, and the vessel glorified [Allah] in the hand of the Messenger of Allah (s). Then, he passed it over to `Ali b. Abi Talib (as). So, `Ali (as) ate from the vessel, and the vessel glorified [Allah] in the hand of `Ali (as). So, a man said: O Messenger of Allah! You ate from the vessel, then you passed it over to `Ali b. Abi Talib! Then, Allah caused the vessel to speak, and it said: There is no god but Allah, the Creator of darkness and light. Know, O people, that I am the gift of the Truthful to His Speaking Prophet. None eat from me except a prophet or a deputy of a prophet.

14 - حدثنا علي بن الحسين بن شاذويه المؤدب (رضي الله عنه)، قال: حدثنا محمد بن عبد الله بن جعفر الحميري، عن أبيه، عن الحسن بن موسى الخشاب، عن جعفر بن محمد بن حكيم، عن زكريا بن محمد المؤمن، عن المشمعل الاسدي، قال: خرجت ذات سنة حاجا، فانصرفت إلى أبي عبد الله الصادق جعفر بن محمد (عليهما السلام)، فقال: من أين بك يا مشمعل؟ فقلت: جعلت فداك، كنت حاجا.  فقال: أو تدري ما للحاج من الثواب؟ فقلت: ما أدري حتى تعلمني. فقال: إن العبد إذا طاف بهذا البيت أسبوعا، وصلى ركعتيه، وسعى بين الصفا والمروة، كتب الله له ستة آلاف حسنة، وحط عنه ستة آلاف سيئة، ورفع له ستة آلاف درجة، وقضى له ستة آلاف حاجة للدنيا كذا، وادخر له للآخرة كذا. فقلت له: جعلت فداك، إن هذا لكثير! قال: أفلا أخبرك بما هو أكثر من ذلك؟ قال قلت: بلى. فقال (عليه السلام): لقضاء حاجة أمرئ مؤمن أفضل من حجة وحجة وحجة، حتى عد عشر حجج (1).

قال خرجت ذات سنة حاجا فانصرفت إلى

فقال

`Ali b. al-Husayn b. Shaduwayh al-Mu’addab (ra) narrated to us. He said: Muhammad b. `Abdullah b. Ja`far al-Himyari narrated to us from his father from al-Hasan b. Musa al-Khashab from Ja`far b. Muhammad b. Hakim from Zakariyya b. Muhammad al-Mu’min from al-Mushma`il al-Asadi. He said: I went for Hajj one year. Then, I went to Abi `Abdillah al-Sadiq Ja`far b. Muhammad (as). So, he said: Where were you, O Mushma`il? So, I said: May I be your sacrifice! I was on Hajj. So, he said: Do you know how many good deeds a pilgrim receives? So, I said: I do not know until you teach me. So, he said: When a worshiper makes seven circuits around this House, prays two units, and performs the sa`i between Safa and Marwa, Allah records six thousand good deeds for him, erases six thousand sins from him, raises him by six thousand levels, fulfills six thousand of his needs in this world, and saves the same amount for [his needs in] the Hereafter. So, I said to him: May I be your sacrifice! This is a lot! He said: Shall I not inform you of something that is more [rewarding] than that? He said: I said: Of course. So, he (as) said: Fulfilling a need of a believing person is better than a Hajj, another Hajj, another Hajj – until he counted ten Hajj [pilgrimages].

15 - حدثنا جعفر بن محمد بن مسرور (رضي الله عنه)، قال: حدثنا الحسين ابن محمد بن عامر، عن عمه عبد الله بن عامر، عن الحسن بن محبوب، عن مالك بن عطية، عن أبي حمزة الثمالي، عن سيد العابدين علي بن الحسين بن علي بن أبي طالب (عليه السلام)، قال: المؤمن خلط علمه بالحلم، يجلس ليعلم، وينصت ليسلم، وينطق ليفهم، لا يحدث أمانته الاصدقاء، ولا يكتم شهادته الاعداء، ولا يفعل شيئا من الحق رياء، ولا يتركه حياء، إن زكي خاف ما يقولون، ويستغفر الله مما لا يعلمون، لا يغره قول من جهله، ويخشى إحصاء من قد علمه. والمنافق ينهى ولا ينتهي، ويأمر بما لا يأتي، إذا قام في الصلاة اعترض، وإذا ركع ربض، وإذا سجد نقر، وإذا جلس شغر (2)، يمسي وهمه الطعام وهو مفطر، ويصبح وهمه النوم ولم يسهر، إن حدثك كذبك، وإن وعدك أخلفك، وإن ائتمنته خانك، وإن خالفته اغتابك (3).

Ja`far b. Muhammad b. Masrur (ra) narrated to us. He said: Al-Husayn b. Muhammad b. `Amer narrated to us from his uncle `Abdullah b. `Amer from al-Hasan b. Mahbub from Malik b. `Atiyya from Abi Hamza al-Thumali from the Master of Worshipers `Ali b. al-Husayn b. `Ali b. Abi Talib (as). He said: The believer mixes his knowledge with forbearance. He sits down so that he may learn, he listens so that he may submit, and he speaks so that he may understand. He does not speak about that which he has been entrusted with, even to his friends. He does not fulfill a responsibility with vanity, and modesty does not leave him. When he is praised, he fears what they say, and he seeks Allah’s forgiveness for that which he does not do. He is not harmed by those who ignore him, and he is mindful of impressions of those who know him. The hypocrite forbids others but does not abstain for himself. He commands that which he himself does not fulfill. When he prays, he complains. When he bows, he slumps. When he prostrates, he pecks (prostrates quickly). When he sits, he spreads himself out. When he is going to bed, his only concern is food, even though he is full. When he wakes up in the morning, his only concern is sleep, even though he did not stay up during the night. When he speaks to you, he lies. When he makes a promise, he does not fulfill it. If you entrust him with anything, he betrays it. And if you disagree with him, he backbites you.

16 - حدثنا علي بن أحمد بن عبد الله بن أحمد بن أبي عبد الله البرقي (رضي الله عنه)، قال: حدثنا أبي، عن جده أحمد بن أبي عبد الله البرقي، عن أبيه  محمد بن خالد، قال: حدثنا سهل بن المرزبان الفارسي، قال: حدثنا محمد بن منصور، عن عبد الله بن جعفر، عن محمد بن الفيض بن المختار، عن أبيه، عن أبي جعفر محمد بن علي الباقر، عن أبيه، عن جده (عليهم السلام)، قال: خرج رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله) ذات يوم وهو راكب، وخرج علي (عليه السلام) وهو يمشي، فقال له: يا أبا الحسن، إما أن تركب، وإما أن تنصرف، فإن الله عز وجل أمرني أن تركب إذا ركبت، وتمشي إذا مشيت، وتجلس إذا جلست، إلا أن يكون حد من حدود الله لا بد لك من القيام والقعود فيه، وما أكرمني الله بكرامة إلا وقد أكرمك بمثلها، وخصني بالنبوة والرسالة، وجعلك وليي في ذلك، تقوم في حدوده وفي صعب أموره، والذي بعث محمدا بالحق نبيا ما آمن بي من أنكرك، ولا أقر بي من جحدك، ولا آمن بالله من كفر بك، وإن فضلك لمن فضلي، وإن فضلي لك لفضل الله، وهو قول ربي عز وجل: (قل بفضل الله وبرحمته فبذلك فليفرحوا هو خير مما يجمعون) (1) ففضل الله نبوة نبيكم، ورحمته ولاية علي بن أبي طالب، (فبذلك) قال: بالنبوة والولاية (فليفرحوا) يعني الشيعة (وهو خير مما يجمعون) يعني مخالفيهم من الاهل والمال والولد في دار الدنيا. والله - يا علي - ما خلقت إلا ليعبد (2) ربك، ولتعرف بك معالم الدين، ويصلح بك دراس السبيل، ولقد ضل من ضل عنك، ولن يهتدي إلى الله عز وجل من لم يهتد إليك وإلى ولايتك، وهو قول ربي عز وجل: (وإنى لغفار لمن تاب وءامن وعمل صالحا ثم اهتدي) (3) يعني إلى ولايتك. ولقد أمرني ربي تبارك وتعالى أن افترض من حقك ما افترضه من حقي، وإن حقك لمفروض على من آمن بي، ولولاك لم يعرف حزب الله، وبك يعرف عدو الله،  ومن لم يلقه بولايتك لم يلقه بشئ، ولقد أنزل الله عز وجل إلي (يا أيها الرسول بلغ ما أنزل إليك من ربك) يعني في ولايتك يا علي (وإن لم تفعل فما بلغت رسالته) (1) ولو لم أبلغ ما أمرت به من ولايتك لحبط عملي، ومن لقي الله عز وجل بغير ولايتك فقد حبط عمله، وعد ينجز لي، وما أقول إلا قول ربي تبارك وتعالى، وإن الذي أقول لمن الله عز وجل أنزله فيك (2).

ذات يوم و هو راكب و خرج علي ع و هو يمشي فقال له يا أبا الحسن

`Ali b. Ahmad b. `Abdullah b. Ahmad b. Abi `Abdillah al-Barqi (ra) narrated to us. He said: My father narrated to us from his grandfather Ahmad b. Abi `Abdillah al-Barqi from his father Muhammad b. Khalid. He said: Sahl b. al-Mirzaban al-Farisi narrated to us. He said: Muhammad b. Mansur narrated to us from `Abdullah b. Ja`far from Muhammad b. al-Fayd b. al-Mukhtar from his father from Abi Ja`far Muhammad b. `Ali al-Baqir from his father from his grandfather (as). He said: The Messenger of Allah (s) went out one day, and he was riding, while `Ali (as) had been walking with him. So, he said to him: O Aba’l Hasan! Either ride or leave, for Allah commanded me to ride when you ride, walk when you walk, and sit when you sit; unless there is a limit from the limits of Allah that does not require you to stand or sit in. Allah did not honour me with an honour except that He has honoured you with one like it. He distinguished me with prophethood and messengership, and He made you my wali in that. You establish His pronouncements and His difficult matters. By He who truly sent Muhammad as a prophet! He who negates you has not believed in me. He who denies you has not accepted me. He who disbelieves in you has not believed in Allah. Surely, your virtue is from my virtue, and my grace to you is the grace of Allah. This is the saying of Allah, “In the grace of Allah and in His mercy – in that let them rejoice; it is better than what they accumulate.” (10:58) The grace of Allah is the prophethood of your prophet, and His mercy is the wilaya of `Ali b. Abi Talib. He says, “in that” – meaning, prophethood and wilaya – “let them rejoice” – meaning, the Shi`a – “it is better than what they accumulate” – meaning, the opponents, and their women, their wealth, and their children in this world. By Allah, `Ali, you were not created except so that your Lord may be worshiped. Through you, the knowledge of religion is known, and the study of the path is rectified. He who deviates from you has deviated [from the truth]. He who is not guided to you and your wilaya is not guided to Allah. This is the saying of my Lord, “Surely, I am most forgiving to those who repent, believe, and do righteous deeds, then continue in guidance” (20:82) – meaning to your wilaya. My Lord commanded me to make your right obligatory just as my right was made obligatory. Surely, your right is obligatory for all who believe in me. Were it not for you, the Party of Allah would not be known. By you, the enemy of Allah is known. He who meets Him without your wilaya will not meet Him with anything [of a reward]. Allah revealed to me, “O Messenger! Announce that which was revealed to you from your Lord” – meaning, regarding your wilaya, `Ali – “if you do not do so, you will not have delivered His message” (5:67) – if I do not announce that which I was commanded to regarding your wilaya, my deeds would fall. He who meets Allah without your wilaya, his deeds will fall – this was promised to me. I do not say except the saying of Allah, and what I have said is what Allah has revealed regarding you.
