Abu Ja`far Muhammad b. `Ali b. al-Husayn b. Musa b. Babuwayh al-Qummi (ra) narrated to us. He said: `Ali b. Ahmad b. Musa (ra) narrated to us. He said: Muhammad b. Harun al-Sufi narrated to us. He said: `Ubaydullah b. Musa al-Ruwayani narrated to us. He said: `Abd al-Athim b. `Abdullah b. al-Hasan b. `Ali b. al-Husayn b. Zayd b. al-Hasan b. `Ali b. Abi Talib (as) narrated to me from Ibrahim b. Abi Mahmud. He said: `Ali b. Musa al-Rida (as) said, regarding the saying of Allah, "The faces on that day will be bright, looking at their Lord" (75:22-23). He said: Meaning, [their faces will be] illuminated, looking at the rewards of their Lord.

(2)

Al-Husayn b. Ibrahim b. Ahmad b. Hisham al-Mu’addab (ra) narrated to us. He said: Abu’l Husayn Muhammad b. Ja`far al-Asadi narrated to us. He said: Muhammad b. Isma`il b. Bazi` narrated to me.  He said: Abu’l Hasan `Ali b. Musa al-Rida (as) said, regarding the saying of Allah: "Sight comprehends Him not, yet He comprehends all sight." (6:103) He said: The imagination of the hearts cannot comprehend Him, so how could the sight of eyes comprehend him?!

3 - حدثنا الحسين بن إبراهيم بن إسحاق الطالقاني (رضي الله عنه)، قال: حدثنا أحمد بن محمد بن سعيد موسى بني هاشم، قال: حدثنا المنذر بن محمد، قال: حدثنا علي بن إسماعيل الميثمي، قال: حدثنا إسماعيل بن الفضل، قال: سألت أبا عبد الله جعفر بن محمد الصادق (عليه السلام) عن الله تبارك وتعالى، هل يرى في المعاد؟ فقال: سبحان الله وتعالى عن ذلك علوا كبيرا! يا بن الفضل، إن الابصار لا تدرك إلا ما له لون وكيفية، والله خالق الالوان والكيفية (3).

قال سألت

أبا عبد الله جعفر بن محمد الصادق عليه السلام

Al-Husayn b. Ibrahim b. Ishaq al-Talaqani (ra) narrated to us. He said: Ahmad b. Muhammad b. Sa`id the servant of Bani Hashim narrated to us. He said: Al-Mundhir b. Muhammad narrated to us. He said: `Ali b. Isma`il al-Muthayma narrated to us. He said: Isma`il b. al-Fadl narrated to us. He said: I asked Aba `Abdillah Ja`far b. Muhammad al-Sadiq (as) about Allah; will He be seen in the Resurrection? So, he said: May Allah be glorified greatly above that! O Ibn al-Fadl! Surely, sights only comprehend that which has a colour and a modality, and Allah is the Creator of colours and modalities.

4 - حدثنا محمد بن أحمد السناني المكتب (رضي الله عنه)، قال: حدثنا محمد بن أبي عبد الله الكوفي، قال: حدثنا سهل بن زياد الآدمي، عن عبد العظيم بن عبد الله الحسني، عن الامام علي بن محمد، عن أبي محمد بن علي، عن أبيه الرضا علي بن موسى (عليهم السلام)، قال: خرج أبو حنيفة ذات يوم من عند الصادق (عليه السلام)، فاستقبله موسى بن جعفر (عليه السلام)، فقال له: يا غلام، ممن المعصية؟ فقال: لا تخلو من ثلاثة: إما أن تكون من الله عز وجل وليست منه، فلا ينبغي للكريم أن يعذب عبده بما لم يكتسبه، وإما أن تكون من الله عز وجل ومن العبد، فلا ينبغي للشريك القوي أن يظلم الشريك الضعيف، وإما أن تكون من العبد وهي منه، فإن عاقبه الله فبذنبه، وإن عفا عنه فيكرمه وجوده (4).

عن أبيه محمد بن علي ع عن أبيه الرضا علي بن موسى ع قال خرج أبو حنيفة ذات يوم من عند الصادق ع فاستقبله

موسى بن جعفر عليه السلام

فقال له يا غلام ممن المعصية فقال

Muhammad b. Ahmad al-Sinani al-Mukattib (ra) narrated to us. He said: Muhammad b. Abi `Abdillah al-Kufi narrated to us. He said: Sahl b. Ziyad al-Adami narrated to us from `Abd al-`Athim b. `Abdullah al-Hasani from Imam `Ali b. Muhammad from his father Muhammad b. `Ali from his father Al-Rida `Ali b. Musa (as). He said: Abu Hanifa departed from al-Sadiq (as) one day and encountered Musa b. Ja`far (as) along the way. So, he said to him: O young man! Who is responsible for the committing of sin? So, he said: There are only three possibilities: (1) It is committed by Allah, which is impossible, because it is not proper for the Merciful to punish His servants for things they have not done. (2) The sin is committed by both Allah and the servant, but it is not proper for a Powerful partner to oppress a weak partner. (3) It is the servant that commits the sin. This is the case. If Allah punishes him, it is due to the sins that he has committed, and if Allah forgives him, it is due to His generosity.

5 - حدثنا علي بن أحمد بن موسى (رضي الله عنه)، قال: حدثنا محمد بن هارون الصوفي، قال: حدثنا عبيد الله بن موسى أبو ترا�� الراوياني، عن عبد العظيم ابن عبد الله الحسني، عن إبراهيم بن أبي محمود، قال: قلت للرضا (عليه السلام): يا بن رسول الله ما تقول في الحديث الذي يرويه الناس عن رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله) أنه قال: إن الله تبارك وتعالى ينزل كل ليلة إلى السماء الدنيا؟ فقال (عليه السلام): لعن الله المحرفين الكلم عن مواضعه، والله ما قال رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله) كذلك، إنما قال (صلى الله عليه وآله): إن الله تبارك وتعالى ينزل ملكا إلى السماء الدنيا كل ليلة في الثلث الاخير، وليلة الجمعة في أول الليل، فيأمره فينادي: هل من سائل فأعطيه، هل من تائب فأتوب عليه، هل من مستغفر فأغفر له. يا طالب الخير أقبل، يا طالب الشر أقصر، فلا يزال ينادي بهذا حتى يطلع الفجر، فإذا طلع الفجر عاد إلى محله من ملكوت السماء، حدثني بذلك أبي، عن جدي، عن آبائه (عليهم السلام)، عن رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله) (1).

`Ali b. Ahmad b. Musa (ra) narrated to us. He said: Muhammad b. Harun al-Sufi narrated to us. He said: `Ubaydullah b. Musa Abu Turab al-Rawyani narrated to us. He said: `Abd al-Athim b. `Abdullah al-Hasani narrated to us from Ibrahim b. Abi Mahmud. He said: I said to al-Rida (as): O son of the Messenger of Allah! What do you say about the ḥadith that the people narrate from the Messenger of Allah (s), which says: "Allah descends on the eve of Fridays to the heaven of this world?" So, he (as) said: May Allah curse those who distort the words from their places! By Allah, the Messenger of Allah (s) has not said that. Rather, he said: "Allah sends down an angel to the Earth’s atmosphere in the last third of every night, and the first part of Friday eve. He commands him to call: 'Is there an asker, so that I may grant him?’; ‘Is there a repenter, so that I may forgive him?’; Is there one asking for forgiveness, so that I can pardon him? O ones who seek good, come forward! O ones who seek evil, keep away!' He does not stop calling this until the sunrise. At sunrise, he returns to his position in the kingdom of heaven." This was narrated to me by my father from his grandfather from his forefathers (as) from the Messenger of Allah (s).

6 - حدثنا أبي (رضي الله عنه)، قال: حدثنا محمد بن يحيى العطار، عن سهل ابن زياد الآدمي، عن علي بن الحكم، عن حماد بن عبد الله، عن أبي بصير، عن الصادق جعفر بن محمد (عليهما السلام)، قال: إذا قال العبد وهو ساجد: يا الله، يا رباه، يا سيداه. ثلاث مرات، أجابه تبارك وتعالى: لبيك عبدي، سل حاجتك (2).

My father (ra) narrated to us. He said: Muhammad b. Yahya al-`Attar narrated to us from Sahl b. Ziyad al-Adami from `Ali b. al-Hakam from Hammad b. `Abdullah from Abi Basir from al-Sadiq Ja`far b. Muhammad (as). He said: When a worshiper says whilst in prostration: "O Allah, O Lord, O Master! (ya Allah, ya rabbah, ya sayyidah)" three times, He responds: "Here I am, My servant, ask for your need."

7 - حدثنا محمد بن الحسن بن أحمد بن الوليد (رضي الله عنه)، قال: حدثنا محمد بن الحسن الصفار، قال: حدثنا محمد بن الحسين بن أبي الخطاب، عن الحكم ابن مسكين، قال: حدثني أبو خالد الكعبي، عن أبي عبد الله (عليه السلام): أن رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله) قال: أيما امرأة رفعت من بيت زوجها شيئا من موضع إلى موضع تريد به صلاحا، نظر الله عز وجل إليها، ومن نظر الله إليه لم يعذبه. فقالت أم سلمة (رضي الله عنها): ذهب الرجال بكل خير، فأي شئ للنساء المساكين؟ فقال (صلى الله عليه وآله): بلى، إذا حملت المرأة كانت بمنزلة الصائم القائم المجاهد بنفسه وماله في سبيل الله، فإذا وضعت كان لها من الاجر ما لا تدري ما هو لعظمه، فإذا أرضعت كان لها بكل مصة كعدل عتق محرر من ولد إسماعيل، فإذا فرغت من رضاعة ضرب ملك على جنبها، وقال: استأنفي العمل، فقد غفر لك (1).

Muhammad b. al-Hasan b. Ahmad b. al-Walid (ra) narrated to us. He said: Muhammad b. al-Hasan al-Saffar narrated to us. He said: Muhammad b. al-Husayn b. Abi'l Khattab narrated to us from al-Hakam b. Miskin. He said: Khalid al-Ka`bi narrated to me from Abi `Abdillah (as). The Messenger of Allah (s) said: Surely, a woman only moved something in the house of her husband from one place to another, wanting to rectify it, and Allah looked to her - and whoever Allah looks to, He will not punish. So, Umm Salama (ra) said: All good has gone to men, so what is for poor women? So, he (s) said: Rather, when a woman becomes pregnant, she is of the status of one who is fasting, standing [in prayer], and striving with his soul and his wealth in the way of Allah. When she gives birth, she receives a reward that she cannot comprehend due to its greatness. When she breastfeeds, her reward with each suckle is like freeing one from the descendants of Isma`il. When she stops breastfeeding, an angel hits her on her side and says: Continue working, for Allah has forgiven you.

8 - حدثنا محمد بن موسى بن المتوكل (رضي الله عنه)، قال: حدثنا محمد بن يحيى العطار، عن محمد بن الحسين بن أبي الخطاب، عن علي بن أسباط، عن عمه يعقوب بن سالم، عن الصادق جعفر بن محمد (عليهما السلام)، قال: ثلاث من لم تكن فيه فلا يرجى خيره أبدا: من لم يخش الله في الغيب، ولم يرعو (2) عند الشيب، ولم يستحي من العيب (3).

Muhammad b. Musa b. al-Mutawakkil (ra) narrated to us. He said: Muhammad b. Yahya al-`Attar narrated to us from Muhammad b. al-Husayn b. Abi'l Khattab from `Ali b. Asbat from his uncle Ya`qub b. Salim from al-Sadiq Ja`far b. Muhammad (as). He said: There are three whose goodness cannot ever be hoped for: (1) He who does not fear Allah in private, (2) he who does not become pious after old age, and (3) he who is not ashamed of his faults.

9 - حدثنا أحمد بن زياد بن الجعفر الهمداني (رضي الله عنه)، قال: حدثنا علي ابن إبراهيم عن أبيه إبراهيم بن هاشم، عن عبد الله بن المغيرة، عن إسماعيل بن مسلم، عن الصادق جعفر بن محمد، عن أبيه، عن آبائه، عن علي (عليهم السلام)، قال: قال رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله): إن العبد ليحبس على ذنب من ذنوبه مائة عام، وإنه لينظر إلى أزواجه وإخوانه في الجنة (4).

Ahmad b. Ziyad b. al-Ja`far al-Hamadani (ra) narrated to us. He said: `Ali b. Ibrahim narrated to us from his father Ibrahim b. Hashim from `Abdullah b. al-Mughira from Isma`il b. Muslim from al-Sadiq Ja`far b. Muhammad from his father from his forefathers from `Ali (as). He said: The Messenger of Allah (s) said: Surely, a servant will be imprisoned for a sin from his sins for one hundred years while looking at his wives and brothers in Paradise.

10 - حدثنا محمد بن موسى بن المتوكل (رضي الله عنه)، قال: حدثنا علي بن الحسين السعد آبادي، عن أحمد بن أبي عبد الله، عن أبيه، عن وهب بن وهب القرشي، عن الصادق جعفر بن محمد، عن أبيه (عليهما السلام): أن علي بن أبي طالب (عليه السلام) قال: لا تنقش الارض عن أحد يوم القيامة إلا وملكان آخذان بضبعيه (5) يقولان: أجب رب العزة (6).

Abi Talib (as) said: None will be brought up from the earth on the Day of Resurrection except that two angels will take him by his arms and say: Answer the Lord of Glory.

11 - حدثنا الحسين بن أحمد بن إدريس (رضي الله عنه)، قال: حدثنا أبي، عن محمد بن أحمد العلوي، قال: حدثني أحمد بن القاسم، عن أبي هاشم الجعفري، قال: أصابتني ضيقة شديدة، فصرت إلى أبي الحسن علي بن محمد (عليهما السلام)، فأذن لي، فلما جلست قال: يا أبا هاشم، أي نعم الله عز وجل عليك تريد أن تؤدي شكرها؟ قال أبو هاشم: فوجمت (1)، فلم أدر ما أقول له، فابتدأ (عليه السلام) فقال: رزقك الايمان، فحرم به بدنك على النار، ورزقك العافية فأعانتك على الطاعة، ورزقك القنوع فصانك عن التبذل. يا أبا هاشم، إنما ابتدأتك بهذا، لاني ظننت أنك تريد أن تشكو إلي من فعل بك هذا، وقد أمرت لك بمائة دينار، فخذها (2).

Al-Hasan b. Ahmad b. Idris (ra) narrated to us. He said: My father narrated to us from Muhammad b. Ahmad al-`Alawi. He said: Ahmad b. al-Qasim narrated to me from Abi Hashim al-Ja`fari. He said: I was afflicted with extreme poverty, so I visited Abi’l Hasan `Ali b. Muhammad (as) and he permitted me in. When I sat down, he said: O Aba’l Hashim! Which of the blessings of Allah over you would you like to give thanks for? Abu’l Hashim said: I remained silent because I did not know what to say to him. So, he (as) preceded me, saying: He has given you faith, by which He has prohibited your body from the Fire. He has given you wellness, by which He supported you in obedience [to Him]. He has granted you contentment, by which He separated you from spending too much. O Aba’l Hashim! I only preceded you with this because I thought that you wanted to complain to me about the One who has done this to you. I have prepared one hundred gold coins for you, so take them.

12 - حدثنا أبي (رضي الله عنه)، قال: حدثنا سعد بن عبد الله، عن يعقوب بن يزيد، عن يحيى بن المبارك، عن عبد الله بن جبلة، عن إسحاق بن عمار، قال: سمعت أبا عبد الله الصادق (عليه السلام) يقول: لا صلاة لحاقن، ولا لحاقب، ولا الحازق. فالحاقن: الذي به البول: والحاقب: الذي به الغائط، والحازق: الذي قد ضغطه الخف (3).

يقول

My father (ra) narrated to us. He said: Sa`d b. `Abdullah narrated to us from Ya`qub b. Yazid from Yahya b. al-Mubarak from `Abdullah b. Jabala from Ishaq b. `Ammar. He said: I heard Aba `Abdillah al-Sadiq (as) say: There is no prayer (salat) for a haqin, nor a haqib, nor a haziq. A haqin is one who has urine [and cannot control it]. A haqib is one who has gas [and cannot control it]. A haziq is one whose feet have been injured.

13 - حدثنا أبي (رضي الله عنه)، قال: حدثنا علي بن إبراهيم، عن أبيه إبراهيم ابن هاشم، عن حماد بن عيسى، قال: قال لي أبو عبد الله (عليه السلام) يوما: تحسن أن تصلي، يا حماد؟ قال: فقلت: يا سيدي، أنا أحفظ كتاب حريز في الصلاة، قال: فقال: لا عليك قم صل، قال: فقمت بين يديه متوجها إلى القبلة، فاستفحت الصلاة، وركعت وسجدت، فقال: يا حماد، لا تحسن أن تصلي، ما أقبح بالرجل أن يأتي عليه ستون سنة أو سبعون سنة، فما يقيم صلاة واحدة بحدودها تامة! قال حماد: فأصابني في نفسي الذل، فقلت: جعلت فداك، فعلمني الصلاة. فقام أبو عبد الله (عليه السلام) مستقبل القبلة منتصبا، فأرسل يديه جميعا على فخذيه، قد ضم أصابعه، وقرب بين قدميه حتى كان بينهما قدر ثلاث أصابع مفرجات، واستقبل بأصابع رجليه جميعا، لم يحرفهما عن القبلة بخشوع واستكانة، وقال: الله أكبر. ثم قرأ الحمد بترتيل، و (قل هو الله أحد)، ثم صبر هنيئة بقدر ما تنفس وهو قائم، ثم قال: الله أكبر. وهو قائم، ثم ركع وملا كفيه من ركبتيه منفرجات، ورد ركبتيه إلى خلف حتى استوى ظهره حتى لو صب عليه قطرة من ماء أو دهن لم تزل لاستواء ظهره، ومدا عنقه، وغمض عينيه، ثم سبح ثلاثا بترتيل، فقال: سبحان ربي العظيم وبحمده، ثم استوى قائما، فلما استمكن من القيام قال: سمع الله لمن حمده، ثم كبر وهو قائم، ورفع يديه حيال وجهه، ثم سجد، ووضع كفيه مضمومتي الاصابع بين ركبتيه حيال وجهه، فقال: سبحان ربي الاعلى وبحمده. ثلاث مرات، ولم يضع شيئا من بدنه على شئ، وسجد على ثمانية أعظم: الجبهة، والكفين، وعيني الركبتين، وأنامل إبهامي الرجلين، فهذه السبعة فرض، ووضع الانف على الارض سنة، وهو الارغام. ثم رفع رأسه من السجود، فلما استوى جالسا، قال: الله أكبر، ثم قعد على جانبه الايسر، قد وضع ظاهر قدمه اليمنى على باطن قدمه اليسرى، وقال: استغفر الله ربي وأتوب إليه. ثم كبر وهو جالس، وسجد السجدة الثانية، وقال كما قال في الاولى، ولم يستعن بشئ من جسده على شئ في ركوع ولا سجود، كان مجنحا، ولم يضع ذراعيه على الارض، فصلى ركعتين على هذا، ثم قال: يا حماد، هكذا صل: ولا تلتفت، ولا تعبث بيديك وأصابعك، ولا تبزق عن يمينك، ولا عن يسارك، ولا بين يديك (1).

My father (ra) narrated to us. He said: `Ali b. Ibrahim narrated to us from his father Ibrahim b. Hashim from Hammad b. `Isa. He said: Abu `Abdillah (as) said to me one day: Do you know how to pray, O Hammad? He said: I said: O my master! I comply with the book of Hariz about prayer. He said: So he (as) said: Worry not! Stand and pray. He said: So, I stood in front of him, facing the qibla. Then I commenced the prayer and I bowed and I prostrated. So, he (as) said:  O Hammad! You do not know how to pray. How repulsive is it for a man to have had sixty years or seventy years pass him by, and he has not established a single prayer with all its limits?! Hammad said: So, abasement befell me within and I said: May I be your sacrifice! Please teach me the prayer. So, Abu `Abdillah (as) stood facing the qibla, erect. Then he placed both his hands together on his thighs, his fingers joined together, and he drew his feet near until they were three digits apart. And he turned, with all the toes of his feet, neither of his feet deflected from the qibla, with submissiveness and complete surrender (tranquility), and said: Allah is the Greatest (Allaahu Akbar)! Then he recited Surat al-Hamd and qul huwallahu ahad with intonation (tartil). Then he paused a little for a measure of one breath while he was standing. Then he said: Allah is the Greatest (Allaahu Akbar) – while he was standing. Then he bowed and spread his palms over the knees and pushed his knees backwards until his back was straight; were a drop of water or fat to be poured on him, it would not slide down due to the straightening of his back and the pushing back of his knees, and he erected his neck and looked down. Then he glorified thrice with intonation and said: Allah listens to the one who praises Him (sami`allahu liman hamidah). Then he recited the takbir while he was standing and raised his hands opposite his face. And he prostrated and placed his hands on the ground prior to his knees and said: Glorified is my Lord, the Most High, and I praise Him (subhana rabbiya 'l-a`laa wa bi hamdih), thrice, and he did not place (i.e. rest) anything (any part) of his body against anything from it. And he prostrated upon eight major [parts]: the forehead and the palms and the kneecaps and the tips of the big toes of the feet and the nose; then these are seven, plenty (seven are required). And the positioning of the nose over the earth is recommended. And it is [out of] compulsion (i.e. the nose is forced to rub the ground when the forehead is on the ground). Then he raised his head from prostration and when he was seated, he said: Allah is the Greatest (Allahu akbar)! Then he sat on his left side and he placed the outside of his right foot over the inside of his left foot, and said: I seek forgiveness of Allah, my Lord and I turn towards (repent unto) Him (astaghfirullaha rabbi wa atubu ilayh). Then he recited the takbir while he was seated and he prostrated a second time and said what he had said in the first and he did not resort to anything from his body against another from it either in the ruku` or the sujud, and he was winged (i.e., the placement of his hands appeared as if there were wings on either side) and he did not place his arms on the ground. Then he prayed the second unit similarly, then said: O Hammad! Pray this way. And do not turn, nor play with your hands or your fingers and do not spit from your right nor your left nor in front of you.

14 - حدثنا محمد بن عمر الحافظ، قال: حدثنا محمد بن الحسين بن حفص، قال: حدثنا إبراهيم بن إسماعيل، قال: حدثني أبي، عن أبيه، عن سلمة، عن أبي الصادق، قال: قال علي (عليه السلام): ديني دين النبي (صلى الله عليه وآله)، وحسبي حسب  النبي، فمن تناول ديني وحسبي فإنما يتناول رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله) (1).

Muhammad b. `Umar al-Hafith narrated to us. He said: Muhammad b. al-Husayn b. Hafs narrated to us. He said: Ibrahim b. Isma`il narrated to us. He said: My father narrated to me from his father from Salama from Abi’l Sadiq. He said: `Ali (as) said: My religion is the religion of the Prophet (s), and my judgment is the judgment of the Prophet. So, whoever insults my religion and my judgment has surely insulted the Messenger of Allah (s).

15 - حدثنا الحسن بن علي بن شعيب الجوهري (رضي الله عنه)، قال: حدثنا عيسى بن محمد العلوي، قال: حدثنا أبو عمرو أحمد بن أبي حازم الغفاري، قال: حدثنا عبيد الله بن موسى، عن شريك، عن ركين بن الربيع، عن القاسم بن حسان، عن زيد بن ثابت، قال: قال رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله): إني تارك فيكم الثقلين: كتاب الله عز وجل وعترتي أهل بيتي، ألا وهما الخليفتان من بعدي، ولن يفترقا حتى يردا علي الحوض (2).

Al-Hasan b. `Ali b. Shu`ayb al-Jawhari (ra) narrated to us. He said: `Isa b. Muhammad al-`Alawi narrated to us. He said: Abu `Amr Ahmad b. Abi Hazim al-Ghifari narrated to us. He said: `Ubaydullah b. Musa narrated to us from Sharik from Rakin b. al-Rabi` from al-Qasim b. Hassan from Zayd b. Thabit. He said: The Messenger of Allah (s) said: Surely, I have left among you the two heavyweights: (1) the Book of Allah, and (2) my progeny, my Ahl al-Bayt. Surely, they are the two vicegerents (khalifatan) after me. They will not separate until they return to me at the Pond.

16 - حدثنا محمد بن علي ماجيلويه (رضي الله عنه)، قال: حدثني عمي محمد بن أبي القاسم، عن محمد بن علي القرشي، عن نصر بن مزاحم، عن عمر بن سعد، عن يوسف بن يزيد، عن عبد الله بن عوف بن الاحمر، قال: لما أراد أمير المؤمنين (عليه السلام) المسير إلى النهروان أتاه منجم، فقال له: يا أمير المؤمنين، لا تسر في هذه الساعة، وسر في ثلاث ساعات يمضين من النهار. فقال له أمير المؤمنين (عليه السلام): ولم ذاك؟ قال: لانك إن سرت في هذه الساعة أصابك وأصاب أصحابك أذى وضر شديد، وإن سرت في الساعة التي أمرتك ظفرت وظهرت وأصبت كل ما طلبت. فقال له أمير المؤمنين (عليه السلام): تدري ما في بطن هذه الدابة، أذكر أم أنثى؟ قال: إن حسبت علمت. قال له أمير المؤمنين (عليه السلام): من صدقك على هذا القول كذب بالقرآن (إن الله عنده علم الساعة وينزل الغيث ويعلم ما في الارحام وما تدرى نفس ماذا تكسب غدا وما تدرى نفس بأى أرض تموت إن الله عليم خبير) (3) ما كان محمد (صلى الله عليه وآله) يدعي ما ادعيت، أتزعم أنك تهدي إلى الساعة  التي من سار فيها صرف عنه السوء، والساعة التي من سار فيها حاق به الضر؟ من صدقك بهذا استغنى بقولك عن الاستعانة بالله عز وجل في ذلك الوجه، وأحوج إلى الرغبة إليك في دفع المكروه عنه، وينبغي له أن يوليك الحمد دون ربه عز وجل، فمن آمن لك بهذا فقد اتخذك من دون الله ندا وضدا. ثم قال (عليه السلام): اللهم لا طير إلا طيرك، ولا ضير إلا ضيرك، ولا خير إلا خيرك، ولا إله غيرك. ثم التفت إلى المنجم، فقال: بل نكذبك ونخالفك، ونسير في الساعة التي نهيت عنها (1).

قال لما أراد

أمير المؤمنين عليه السلام

Muhammad b. `Ali Majiluwayh (ra) narrated to us. He said: My uncle Muhammad b. Abi’l Qasim narrated to me from Muhammad b. `Ali al-Qurashi from Nasr b. Mazahim from `Umar b. Sa`d from Yusuf b. Yazid from `Abdullah b. `Awf b. al-Ahmar. He said: When Amir al-Mu’minin (as) wanted to set out to Nahrawan, an astrologer came to him and said to him: O Amir al-Mu’minin! Do not go at this hour. Go after three hours have passed from the day. So, Amir al-Mu’minin (as) said to him: Why is that? He said: Because if you go at this hour, you and your companions will be afflicted with severe harm. If you go in the hour that I have commanded you to go in, then you will triumph and achieve all that you seek. So, Amir al-Mu’minin (as) said to him: Do you know what is in this beast, whether it is male or female? He said: If I calculate, I will know. Amir al-Mu’minin (as) said to him: Whoever ratifies you in this saying has belied the Quran, “Surely, it is Allah with whom rests the knowledge of the Hour; and He sends down the rain, and He knows what is in the wombs. No one knows what he will earn tomorrow, and no one knows in which land he will die. Surely, Allah is Knowing, Aware.” (31:34) Muhammad (s) would not claim what you are claiming. Do you allege that you can guide to the hour that steers one away from harm, and [identify] the hour that, if one travels in it, he incurs harm? According to this view, whoever ratifies you in this saying has become needless of Allah, and has made it more necessary to seek you to repel hateful things from him, and makes it incumbent on himself to give you all praise at the expense of his Lord. Whoever believes in you in this has taken up an equal counterpart to Allah. Then, he (as) said: O Allah! There is no warning except Your warning, and there is no harm except Your harm, and there is no goodness except Your goodness, and there is no god besides You. Then, he turned to the astrologer and said: Rather, we bely you and oppose you. We will travel in the hour that you have prohibited.
