1 - حدثنا الشيخ الجليل أبو جعفر محمد بن علي بن الحسين بن موسى ابن بابويه القمي (رضي الله عنه)، قال: حدثني أبي (رضي الله عنه)، قال: حدثنا سعد بن عبد الله، قال: حدثنا أحمد بن محمد بن عيسى، عن الحسين بن سعيد، عن حماد بن عيسى، عن إبراهيم بن عمر اليماني، عن أبي الطفيل، عن أبي جعفر محمد بن علي الباقر (عليهما السلام)، عن آبائه (عليهم السلام)، قال: قال رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله) لامير المؤمنين (عليه السلام): اكتب ما أملي عليك. فقال: يا نبي الله، أتخاف علي النسيان؟ فقال (صلى الله عليه وآله): لست أخاف عليك النسيان، وقد دعوت الله لك أن يحفظك ولا ينسيك، ولكن اكتب لشركائك. قال: قلت: ومن شركائي، يا نبي الله؟ قال: الائمة من ولدك، بهم تسقى أمتي الغيث، وبهم يستجاب دعاؤهم، وبهم يصرف الله عنهم البلاء، وبهم ينزل الرحمة من السماء، وهذا أولهم. وأومى بيده إلى الحسن بن علي (عليه السلام)، ثم أومى بيده إلى الحسين (عليه السلام)، ثم قال: الائمة من ولده (1).

Abu Ja`far Muhammad b. `Ali b. al-Husayn b. Musa b. Babuwayh al-Qummi (ra) narrated to us. He said: My father (ra) narrated to me. He said: Sa`d b. `Abdullah narrated to us. He said: Ahmad b. Muhammad b. `Isa narrated to us from al-Husayn b. Sa`id from Hammad b. `Isa from Ibrahim b. `Umar al-Yamani from Abi’l Tufayl from Abi Ja`far Muhammad b. `Ali al-Baqir (as) from his forefathers (as). He said: The Messenger of Allah (s) said to Amir al-Mu’minin (as): “Write what I will dictate to you.” He said: “O Prophet of Allah! Do you fear that I may forget?” So, he (s) said: “I do not fear that you will forget, because I have prayed to Allah that He may protect you from forgetfulness. Rather, write for your partners.” He said: I said: “Who are my partners, O Prophet of Allah?” He said: “The Imams from your loins, by whom my Nation will receive rain, by whom their supplications will be answered, by whom Allah will ward of their calamities, by whom mercy will descend from the heavens, and he is the first of them.” And he pointed to al-Hasan (as) with his hand. Then, he pointed to al-Husayn (as) with his hand and said: “The Imams are from his loins.”

2 - حدثنا محمد بن الحسن بن أحمد بن الوليد (رضي الله عنه)، قال: حدثنا الحسين بن الحسن بن أبان، عن الحسين بن سعيد، عن محمد بن الحسين الكناني، عن جده، عن أبي عبد الله الصادق (عليه السلام)، قال: إن الله عز وجل أنزل على نبيه (صلى الله عليه وآله) كتابا قبل أن يأتيه الموت، فقال: يا محمد، هذا الكتاب وصيتك إلى النجيب من أهلك. فقال: ومن النجيب من أهلي، يا جبرئيل؟ فقال: علي بن أبي طالب. وكان على الكتاب خواتيم من ذهب، فدفعه النبي (صلى الله عليه وآله) إلى علي (عليه السلام)، وأمره أن يفك خاتما منها، ويعمل بما فيه، ففك (عليه السلام) خاتما، وعمل بما فيه، ثم دفعه إلى ابنه الحسن (عليه السلام)، ففك خاتما، وعمل بما فيه، ثم دفعه إلى الحسين (عليه السلام)، ففك خاتما، فوجد فيه: أن اخرج بقوم (1) إلى الشهادة، فلا شهادة لهم إلا معك، واشتر نفسك لله عز وجل، ففعل، ثم دفعه إلى علي بن الحسين (عليهما السلام)، ففك خاتما فوجد فيه: اصمت، والزم منزلك، واعبد ربك حتى يأتيك اليقين، ففعل، ثم دفعه إلى محمد بن علي (عليهما السلام)، ففك خاتما فوجد فيه: حدث الناس وافتهم، ولا تخافن إلا الله، فإنه لا سبيل لاحد عليك، ثم دفعه إلي ففككت خاتما، فوجدت فيه: حدث الناس وافتهم، وانشر علوم أهل بيتك، وصدق آبائك الصالحين، ولا تخافن أحدا إلا الله، وأنت في حرز وأمان، ففعلت، ثم أدفعه إلى موسى بن جعفر، وكذلك يدفعه موسى إلى الذي من بعده، ثم كذلك أبدا إلى قيام المهدي (عليه السلام) (2).

قال

Muhammad b. al-Hasan b. Ahmad b. al-Walid (ra) narrated to us. He said: Al-Husayn b. al-Hasan b. Aban narrated to us from al-Husayn b. Sa`id from Muhammad b. al-Husayn al-Kinani from his grandfather from Abi `Abdillah al-Sadiq (as). He said: Allah bestowed a book unto His Prophet (s) before death came to him and said: “O Muhammad! This book is your will to the nobleman of your family.” So, he said: “Who is the nobleman from my family, O Gabriel?” So, he said: “`Ali b. Abi Talib.” On the book were seals of gold. So, the Prophet (s) gave it to `Ali (as) and ordered him to open one of its seals and to do what is [instructed] therein. So, he (as) opened a seal, and did what was in it. Then, he gave it to his son al-Hasan (as), who opened a seal, and did what was in it. Then, he gave it to al-Husayn (as), who opened a seal, and found therein: “Take a people toward martyrdom, for they will not find martyrdom except with you. Ransom yourself for Allah.” So, he did so, and he gave it to `Ali b. al-Husayn (as). So, he opened his seal and found therein: “Be silent, stick to your house, and worship Allah until death comes to you.” So, he did so, and he gave it to Muhammad b. `Ali (as). So, he opened his seal and found therein: “Narrate to the people and give them edicts. Fear none but Allah, for none have a way to you.” Then, he gave it to me, and I opened a seal and I found therein: “Narrate to the people and give them edicts. Spread the knowledge of your Ahl al-Bayt and the honesty of your righteous forefathers. Fear none but Allah, for you are in a protective hedge.” So, I did so. Then, I will give it to Musa b. Ja`far, and then Musa will give it to the one after him; and that will continue until the rise of the Mahdi (as).

3 - حدثنا محمد بن موسى بن المتوكل (رحمه الله)، قال: حدثنا عبد الله بن جعفر الحميري، قال: حدثنا أحمد بن محمد بن عيسى، عن الحسن بن محبوب، عن مقاتل بن سليمان، عن أبي عبد الله الصادق (عليه السلام)، قال: قال رسول  الله (صلى الله عليه وآله): أنا سيد النبيين، ووصيي سيد الوصيين، وأوصياؤه سادة الاوصياء، إن آدم (عليه السلام) سأل الله عز وجل أن يجعل له وصيا صالحا، فأوحى الله عز وجل إليه: أني أكرمت الانبياء بالنبوة، ثم اخترت خلقي، وجعلت خيارهم الاوصياء. ثم أوحى الله عز وجل إليه: يا آدم، أوص إلى شيث، فأوصى آدم إلى شيث، وهو هبة الله بن آدم، وأوصى شيث إلى ابنه شبان (1)، وهو ابن نزلة الحوراء التي أنزلها الله على آدم من الجنة، فزوجها ابنه شيثا، وأوصى شبان إلى مجلث (2)، وأوصى مجلث إلى محوق، وأوصى محوق إلى غثميشا (3)، وأوصى غثميشا إلى أخنوخ، وهو إدريس النبي (عليه السلام)، وأوصى إدريس إلى ناحور (4) ودفعها ناحور إلى نوح النبي (عليه السلام)، وأوصى نوح إلى سام، وأوصى سام إلى عثامر، وأوصى عثامر إلى برعيثاشا (5)، وأوصى برعيثاشا إلى يافث، وأوصى يافث إلى برة، وأوصى برة إلى جفسيه (6) وأوصى جفسيه إلى عمران، ودفعها عمران إلى إبراهيم خليل الرحمن (عليه السلام)، وأوصى إبراهيم إلى ابنه إسماعيل، وأوصى إسماعيل إلى إسحاق، وأوصى إسحاق إلى يعقوب، وأوصى يعقوب إلى يوسف، وأوصى يوسف إلى بثرياء (7)، وأوصى بثرياء إلى شعيب (عليه السلام)، ودفعها شعيب إلى موسى بن عمران (عليه السلام)، وأوصى موسى بن عمران (عليه السلام) إلى يوشع بن نون، وأوصى يوشع بن نون إلى داود (عليه السلام)، وأوصى داود (عليه السلام) إلى سليمان (عليه السلام)، وأوصى سليمان (عليه السلام) إلى آصف بن برخيا، وأوصى آصف بن برخيا إلى  زكريا (عليه السلام)، ودفعها زكريا (عليه السلام) إلى عيسى بن مريم (عليه السلام)، وأوصى عيسى إلى شمعون بن حمون الصفا، وأوصى شمعون إلى يحيى بن زكريا، وأوصى يحيى بن زكريا إلى منذر، وأوصى منذر إلى سليمة، وأوصى سليمة إلى بردة. ثم قال رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله): ودفعها إلي بردة، وأنا أدفعها إليك يا علي، وأنت تدفعها إلى وصيك، ويدفعها وصيك إلى أوصيائك من ولدك واحدا بعد واحد، حتى تدفع إلى خير أهل الارض بعدك، ولتكفرن بك الامة، ولتختلفن عليك اختلافا شديدا، الثابت عليك كالمقيم معي، والشاذ عنك في النار، والنار مثوى الكافرين (1).

قال قال

Muhammad b. Musa b. al-Mutawakkil (rh) narrated to us. He said: `Abdullah b. Ja`far al-Himyari narrated to us. He said: Ahmad b. Muhammad b. `Isa narrated to us from al-Hasan b. Mahbub from Muqatil b. Sulayman from Abi `Abdillah al-Sadiq (as). He said: The Messenger of Allah (s) said: I am the Master of Prophets, and my deputy is the Master of Deputies, and his deputies are the masters of deputies. Surely, Adam (as) asked Allah to give him a righteous deputy. So, Allah revealed to him: “I ennobled the prophets with prophethood, then I chose My creation, and I made the choicest of them the deputies.” Then, Allah revealed to him: “O Adam! Depute Sheeth.” So, Adam deputed Sheeth – and he is Habatullah (the Gift of Allah) b. Adam. Sheeth deputed his son Shaban, who is the son of Nazala, the houri that Allah bestowed unto Adam from Paradise; so, he married her to his son Sheeth. Shaban deputed Mujallath. Then, Mujallath deputed Mahuq. Then, Mahuq deputed Ghathmisha. Then, Ghathmisha deputed Ekhnokh – and he is Idris the prophet (as). Then, Idris deputed Nahur. Then, Nahur gave it to Nuh the prophet (as). Then, Nuh deputed Sam. Then, Sam deputed `Athamir. Then, `Athamir deputed Bar`ithasha. Then Bar`ithasha deputed Yafith. Then, Yafith deputed Barra. Then, Barra deputed Jafiyya. Then, Jafiyya deputed `Imran. Then, `Imran gave it to Ibrahim the Friend of the Merciful (as). Then, Ibrahim deputed his son Isma`il. Then, Isma`il deputed Ishaq. Then Ishaq deputed Ya`qub. Then, Ya`qub deputed Yusuf. Then, Yusuf deputed Buthriya’. Then, Buthriya’ deputed Shu`ayb (as). Then, Shu`ayb gave it to Musa b. `Imran (as). Then, Musa b. `Imran (as) deputed Yusha` b. Nun. Then, Yusha` b. Nun deputed Dawud (as). Then, Dawud (as) deputed Sulayman as). Then, Sulayman (as) deputed Asif b. Barkhiyya. Then, Asif b. Barkhiyya deputed Zakariyya (as). Then, Zakariyya (as) gave it to `Isa b. Maryam (as). Then, `Isa deputed Sham`un b. Ham`un al-Safa. Then, Sham`un deputed Yahya b. Zakariyya. Then, Yahya b. Zakariyya deputed Mundhir. Then, Mundhir deputed Sulayma. Then, Sulayma deputed Barda. Then, the Messenger of Allah (s) said: Burda gave it to me, and I give it to you, `Ali. You will give it to your deputy, and then your deputy will give it to your deputies from your descendants, one after the other, until it is given to the best of the people of the Earth after you. The Nation will disbelieve over you, and they dispute over you severely. One who is steadfast with you is like one who is established with me, while one who estranges you is in the Fire – and the Fire is the lodging of the disbelievers.

4 - حدثنا أحمد بن محمد بن يحيى العطار (رحمه الله)، قال: حدثنا سعد بن عبد الله، قال: حدثني محمد بن عبد الجبار، قال: حدثني الحسن بن علي بن أبي حمزة، عن أبيه، عن أبي بصير، قال: قلت لابي عبد الله الصادق (عليه السلام): ما كان دعاء يوسف (عليه السلام) في الجب، فإنا قد اختلفنا فيه؟ فقال: إن يوسف (عليه السلام) لما صار في الجب، وأيس من الحياة، قال: اللهم إن كانت الخطايا والذنوب قد أخلقت وجهي عندك، فلن ترفع لي إليك صوتا، ولن تستجيب لي دعوة، فإني أسألك بحق الشيخ يعقوب، فارحم ضعفه، واجمع بيني وبينه، فقد علمت رقته علي وشوقي إليه. قال: ثم بكى أبو عبد الله الصادق (عليه السلام)، ثم قال: وأنا أقول: اللهم إن كانت الخطايا والذنوب قد أخلقت وجهي عندك، فلن ترفع لي إليك صوتا، فإني أسألك بك، فليس كمثلك شئ، وأتوجه إليك بمحمد نبيك نبي الرحمة، يا الله، يا الله، يا الله، يا الله، يا الله. قال: ثم قال أبو عبد الله (عليه السلام): قولوا هذا، وأكثروا منه، فإني كثيرا ما أقوله  عند الكرب العظام (1).

Ahmad b. Muhammad b. Yahya al-`Attar (rh) narrated to us. He said: Sa`d b. `Abdullah narrated to us. He said: Muhammad b. `Abd al-Jabbar narrated to me. He said: Al-Hasan b. `Ali b. Abi Hamza narrated to me from his father from Abi Basir. I said to Abi `Abdillah al-Sadiq (as): What was the supplication of Yusuf (as) in the pit, for we have disagreed regarding it. So, he said: When Yusuf (as) was in the pit and despairing life, he said: “O Allah! If the mistakes and sins have covered my face for You, and if You do not grant my supplication after I have raised my voice [in prayer] to You, then I ask you by the right of Ya`qub, the elderly man. Have mercy on his weakness, and bring us together, for You know of his tenderness towards me and my longing for him.” Then, Abu `Abdillah al-Sadiq (as) wept. Then, he said: I say: “O Allah! If errors and sins have changed my face with You, then do not raise a voice from me to You. Surely, I ask You by You, for there is nothing like You; and I turn to You through Muhammad Your Prophet, the Prophet of Mercy. O Allah, O Allah, O Allah, O Allah, O Allah (Allahumma in kanit al-khataya wal dhunub qad akhlaqat wajhi `indika fa lan tarfa` li ilayk sawtan, fa inni as’aluka bik, fa laysa ka mithlika shay’, wa atawajjahu ilayka bi Muhammad nabiyyika, nabi al-rahma. Ya Allah, ya Allah, ya Allah, ya Allah, ya Allah)!” He said: Then, Abu `Abdillah (as) said: Say this, and increase in it, for surely, I say it frequently at great calamities.

5 - حدثنا الحسين بن أحمد بن إدريس (رحمه الله)، قال: حدثنا أبي، عن يعقوب بن يزيد، عن محمد بن أبي عمير، عن معاوية بن وهب، عن أبي سعيد هاشم، عن أبي عبد الله الصادق (عليه السلام)، قال: أربعة لا يدخلون الجنة: الكاهن، والمنافق، ومدمن الخمر، والقتات، وهو النمام (2).

Al-Husayn b. Ahmad b. Idris (rh) narrated to us. He said: My father narrated to us from Ya`qub b. Yazid from Muhammad b. Abi `Umayr from Mu`awiya b. Wahb from Abi Sa`id Hashim from Abi `Abdillah al-Sadiq (as). He said: There are four who will not enter Paradise: (1) The soothsayer, (2) the hypocrite, (3) the wine addict, and (4) backbiter (al-qattat); and he is the gossiper (al-nammam).

6 - حدثنا محمد بن موسى بن المتوكل (رحمه الله)، قال: حدثنا محمد بن يحيى العطار، قال: حدثنا سهل بن زياد الآدمي، عن محمد بن سنان، عن عمرو بن ثابت، عن حبيب بن أبي ثابت، رفعه، قال: دخل رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله) على عمه أبي طالب وهو مسجى، فقال: يا عم، كفلت يتيما، وربيت صغيرا، ونصرت كبيرا، فحزاك الله عني خيرا. ثم أمر عليا (عليه السلام) بغسله (3).

Muhammad b. Musa b. al-Mutawakkil (rh) narrated to us. He said: Muhammad b. Yahya al-`Attar narrated to us. He said: Sahl b. Ziyad al-Adami narrated to us from Muhammad b. Sinan from `Amr b. Thabit from Habib b. Abi Thabit who raised it. He said: The Messenger of Allah (s) visited his uncle Abi Talib as he lay dead. So, he said: O uncle! You adopted an orphan, you raised a child, and you supported an adult, so may Allah reward you on my behalf. Then, he ordered `Ali (as) to wash him.

7 - حدثنا علي بن أحمد بن موسى (رضي الله عنه)، قال: حدثنا محمد بن أبي عبد الله الكوفي، عن موسى بن عمران النخعي، عن إبراهيم بن الحكم، عن محمد بن الفضيل، عن مسعود الملائي، عن حبة العرني، قال: أبصر عبد الله بن عمر رجلين يختصمان في رأس عمار (رضي الله عنه)، يقول هذا: أنا قتلته، ويقول هذا: أنا قتلته، فقال ابن عمر: يختصمان أيهما يدخل النار أولا! ثم قال: سمعت رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله) يقول: قاتله وسالبه في النار. فبلغ ذلك معاوية فقال: ما نحن قتلناه، وإنما قتله من جاء به. قال الشيخ أبو جعفر بن بابويه (رضي الله عنه)، على هذا أن يكون النبي (صلى الله عليه وآله) قاتل حمزة (رضي الله عنه)، وقاتل الشهداء معه، لانه (صلى الله عليه وآله) هو الذي جاء بهم (4).

يقول

`Ali b. Ahmad b. Musa (ra) narrated to us. He said: Muhammad b. Abi `Abdillah al-Kufi narrated to us from Musa b. `Imran al-Nakha`i from Ibrahim b. al-Hakam from Muhammad b. al-Fudayl from Mas`ud al-Milani from Habba al-`Urni. `Abdullah b. `Umar saw two men vying over the head of `Ammar (ra). One would say: “I killed him” and the other would say: “I killed him.” So, Ibn `Umar said: You are vying over which one of you will enter the Fire first! Then, he said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (s) say: His killer and his adversary are in the Fire. So, Mu`awiya was told that, so he said: We did not kill him. Surely, the one that brought him has killed him. Shaykh Abu Ja`far b. Babuwayh (ra) said: By this logic, then it would have been the Prophet (s) that killed Hamza (ra), and he would have killed those martyred with him, because he (s) is the one that brought them.

8 - وبهذا الاسناد، عن إبراهيم بن الحكم، عن عبد الله بن موسى، عن سعد بن أوس، عن بلال بن يحيى العبسي، قال: لما قتل عمار (رضي الله عنه)، أتوا حذيفة، فقالوا: يا أبا عبد الله، قتل هذا الرجل، وقد اختلف الناس، فما تقول؟ قال: أما إذا أبيتم فأجلسوني. قال: فأسندوه إلى صدر رجل منهم، فقال: سمعت رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله) يقول: أبو اليقظان على الفطرة - ثلاث مرات - لن يدعها حتى يموت (1).

فقالوا يا أبا عبد الله...فقال سمعت

By this isnad from Ibrahim b. al-Hakam from `Abdullah b. Musa from Sa`d b. Aws from Bilal b. Yahya al-`Absi. He said: When `Ammar (ra) was killed, they came to Hudhayfa, and they said: O Aba `Abdillah! This man was killed, and the people have differed, so what do you say? He said: If you reject [him], then sit down with me. He said: So, he held one of them by the chest and said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (s) say: “Abu’l Yaqthan (Ammar) is on the natural disposition (fitra)” – three times – “he will not leave it until he dies.”

9 - وبهذا الاسناد، عن إبراهيم بن الحكم، عن عبيد الله بن موسى، عن عبد العزيز بن سياه، عن حبيب بن أبي ثابت، عن عطاء بن يسار، عن عائشة، قالت: قال رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله): ما خير عمار بن ياسر بين أمرين إلا اختار أشدهما (2).

By this isnad from Ibrahim b. al-Hakam from `Ubaydullah b. Musa from `Abd al-`Aziz b. Sayyah from Habib b. Abi Thabit from `Ata’ b. Yasar from `A’isha. She said: The Messenger of Allah (s) said: `Ammar b. Yasir is not given a choice between two things except that he chooses the more challenging of them.

10 - حدثنا محمد بن عمر الحافظ البغدادي، قال: حدثنا أحمد بن عبد العزيز بن الجعد، قال: حدثنا عبد الرحمن بن صالح، قال: حدثنا شعيب بن راشد، عن جابر، عن أبي جعفر (عليه السلام)، قال: قام علي (عليه السلام) يخطب الناس بصفين يوم جمعة، وذلك قبل الهرير بخمسة أيام، فقال: الحمد لله على نعمه الفاضلة على جميع خلقه البر والفاجر، وعلى حججه البالغة على خلقه من عصاه وأطاعه، إن يعف فبفضل منه، وإن يعذب فبما قدمت أيديهم، وما الله بظلام للعبيد. أحمده على حسن البلاء، وتظاهر النعماء، واستعينه على ما نابنا من أمر ديننا، وأؤمن به، وأتوكل عليه، وكفى بالله وكيلا. ثم إني أشهد أن لا إله إلا الله، وحده لا شريك له، وأن محمدا عبده ورسوله، أرسله بالهدى ودينه الذي ارتضاه، وكان أهله، واصطفاه على جميع العباد بتبليغ رسالته وحججه على خلقه، وكان كعلمه فيه رؤوفا رحيما، أكرم خلق الله حسبا، وأجملهم منظرا، وأشجعهم نفسا، وأبرهم بالوالد، وآمنهم على عقد، لم يتعلق عليه مسلم ولا كافر بمظلمة قط، بل كان يظلم فيغفر، ويقدر فيصفح ويعفو، حتى مضى  مطيعا لله، صابرا على ما أصابه، مجاهدا في الله حق جهاده، عابدا لله حتى أتاه اليقين، فكان ذهابه (صلى الله عليه وآله) أعظم المصيبة على جميع أهل الارض البر والفاجر، ثم ترك فيكم كتاب الله، يأمركم بطاعة الله، وينهاكم عن معصيته. وقد عهد إلي رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله) عهدا لن أخرج عنه، وقد حضركم عدوكم، وقد عرفتم من رئيسهم، يدعوهم إلى باطل، وابن عم نبيكم (صلى الله عليه وآله) بين أظهركم يدعوكم إلى طاعة ربكم، والعمل بسنة نبيكم، ولا سواء من صلى قبل كل ذكر، لم يسبقني بالصلاة غير نبي الله، وأنا والله من أهل بدر، والله إنكم لعلى الحق، وإن القوم لعلى الباطل، فلا يصبر القوم على باطلهم، ويجتمعوا عليه، وتتفرقوا عن حقكم، قاتلوهم يعذبهم الله بأيديكم، فإن لم تفعلوا ليعذبنهم الله بأيدي غيركم. فأجابه أصحابه، فقالوا: يا أمير المؤمنين، انهض إلى القوم إذا شئت، فوا الله ما نبغي بك بدلا، نموت معك ونحيا. فقال لهم مجيلا لهم: والذي نفسي بيده، ينظر إلي رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله) وأنا أضرب قدامه بسيفي، فقال: لا سيف إلا ذو الفقار، ولا فتى إلا علي. ثم قال لي: يا علي، أنت مني بمنزلة هارون من موسى غير أنه لا نبي بعدي، وحياتك - يا علي - وموتك، معي فوالله ما كذبت ولا كذبت، ولا ضللت ولا ضل بي، ولا نسيت ما عهد إلي، إني إذن لنسي، وإني لعلى بينة من ربي بينها لنبيه (صلى الله عليه وآله)، فبينها لي، وإني لعلى الطريق الواضح، ألقطه لقطا. ثم نهض إلى القوم يوم الخميس، فاقتتوا من حين طلعت الشمس حتى غاب الشفق، ما كانت صلاة القوم يومئذ إلا تكبيرا عند مواقيت الصلاة، فقتل علي (عليه السلام) يومئذ بيده خمسمائة وستة نفر من جماعة القوم، فأصبح أهل الشام ينادون: يا علي، اتق الله في البقية، ورفعوا المصاحف على أطراف القنا (1).

يخطب الناس بصفين يوم جمعة و ذلك قبل الهرير بخمسة أيام فقال

Muhammad b. `Umar al-Hafith al-Baghdadi narrated to us. He said: Ahmad b. `Abd al-`Aziz b. al-Ja`d narrated to us. He said: `Abd al-Rahman b. Salih narrated to us. He said: Shu`ayb b. Rashid narrated to us from Jabir from Abi Ja`far (as). He said: `Ali (as) delivered a sermon to the people at Siffin on Friday, five days before the battle. So, he said: Praise be to Allah for His great blessings which He bestowed upon all His creation, the righteous and the wretched alike; and for His elaborate proofs over His creation, those who disobey Him and those who obey Him alike. Surely, if He forgives, then that is a bounty from Him, and if He punishes, then that is what proceeded from their own hands – and Allah is not oppressive to the servants. I praise Him for resolving hardships, manifesting blessings, and His help in fulfilling the orders of our religion. I believe in Him and I rely on Him, as Allah is sufficient as a guardian. Then, I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, one without partners, and that Muhammad is His Servant and His Messenger. He sent him with guidance and His religion which He is pleased with, and he was of its nature. He chose him over all the servants to preach His message and His proofs over His creation – and He was gentle and merciful with him. He was the most honoured of Allah’s creation, the most beautiful of them in appearance, the most valiant of them in spirit, the best of them to his parent, the most secure of them in agreements – no Muslim nor disbeliever ever claimed to have been wronged by him. Rather, he would be wronged, and he would forgive and pardon; until he passed away in obedience to Allah, patient over what afflicted him, striving for Allah as He ought to be strived for, worshiping Allah until certainty (death) came to him. His (s) leave of us was the greatest calamity for all the people of the world, the righteous and the wretched alike. He left the Book of Allah among you, which commands you to obey Allah and prohibits you from disobeying Him. The Messenger of Allah (s) gave me a covenant that I will not leave. Your enemies have come to you, and you have recognized who their leader is – he calls them to falsehood – and the cousin of your Prophet (s) is in your midst calling you to the obedience of your Lord and fulfilling the sunna of your Prophet. There is no equal to the one who prayed before every male. None preceded me in prayer except the Prophet of Allah. I am, by Allah, from the people of Badr. By Allah, you are surely upon truth, and the people are surely upon falsehood. We cannot bear their falsehood patiently as they gather to it and split away from their truth. Fight them, and Allah will punish them with your hands. If you do not do that, then Allah will punish them with the hands of others. So, his companions responded to him, and they said: O Amir al-Mu’minin! Go forth to the people if you wish, for by Allah, we live and we die with you. So, he said to them: By He in whose hand is my soul! The Messenger of Allah (s) looked at me while I was striking before him with my sword, then he said: “There is no sword except the dhulfiqar, and there is no youth except `Ali.” Then, he said to me: “O `Ali! You are to me as Harun was to Musa, except there is no prophet after me – by your life, O `Ali, and by your death.” I have never lied, nor have I misled, nor have I forgotten what was entrusted to me. Surely, I am upon a proof from my Lord that he had given to His Prophet (s), and he had given it to me. Surely, I am upon the clear path, and I go quickly upon it. Then, he went forth to the people on Thursday, and they fought from sunrise to sunset. Those people (the enemy) did not pray on that day except for reciting the takbir during the timings of the prayers. That day, `Ali (as) killed five hundred and six individuals from that group of people with his hands. So, the next morning, the people of the Levant called: O `Ali! Fear Allah regarding those who remain. So, they raised the codices [of the Quran] from the tips of their spears.

11 - حدثنا الحسن بن محمد بن سعيد الهاشمي، قال: حدثنا فرات بن  إبراهيم بن فرات الكوفي، قال: حدثنا محمد بن ظهير، قال: حدثنا الحسين بن علي العبدي المعروف بابن القاري، قال: حدثنا محمد بن عبد الواحد الواسطي، قال: حدثنا محمد بن ربيعة، عن إبراهيم بن يزيد، عن عمرو بن دينار، عن طاوس، عن ابن عباس، قال: سمعت رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله) وهو على المنبر، يقول وقد بلغه عن أناس من قريش إنكار تسميته لعلي أمير المؤمنين، فقال: معاشر الناس، إن الله عز وجل بعثني إليكم رسولا، وأمرني أن استخلف عليكم عليا أميرا، ألا فمن كنت نبيه، فإن عليا أميره، تأمير أمره الله عز وجل عليكم، وأمرني أن أعلمكم ذلك، لتسمعوا له وتطيعوا، إذا أمركم تأتمرون، وإذا نهاكم عن أمر تنتهون. ألا فلا يأتمرن أحد منكم علي في حياتي ولا بعد وفاتي، فإن الله تبارك وتعالى أمره عليكم، وسماه أمير المؤمنين، ولم يسم أحدا من قبله بهذا الاسم، وقد أبلغتكم ما أرسلت به إليكم في علي، فمن أطاعني فيه فقد أطاع الله، ومن عصاني فيه فقد عصى الله عز وجل، ولا حجة له عند الله عز وجل، وكان مصيره إلى ما قال الله عز وجل في كتابه: (ومن يعص الله ورسوله ويتعد حدوده يدخله نارا خالدا فيها) (1).

و هو على المنبر يقول

Al-Hasan b. Muhammad b. Sa`id al-Hashimi narrated to us. He said: Furat b. Ibrahim b. Furat al-Kufi narrated to us. He said: Muhammad b. Thahir narrated to us. He said: Al-Husayn b. `Ali al-`Abdi – known as Ibn al-Qari – narrated to us. He said: Muhammad b. `Abd al-Wahid al-Wasiti narrated to us. He said: Muhammad b. Rabi`a narrated to us from Ibrahim b. Yazid from `Amr b. Dinar from Tawus from Ibn `Abbas. He said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (s) say on the pulpit when he was informed that a group from Quraysh denied that he had called `Ali the Commander of the Faithful: O people! Surely, Allah sent me to you as a messenger, and He ordered me to delegate `Ali as an emir over you. Surely, for whomever I am their prophet, then `Ali is their emir. Allah has put him in charge of you, and He commanded me to inform you of that, so that you may listen to him and obey him. If he orders you to do something, then do it, and if he forbids you from something, then abstain from it. None of you should be in a position of authority over `Ali in my lifetime nor after my death, for surely, Allah has put him over you and has called him the Commander of the Faithful; none before him have been called by this name. I have informed you of what I have been sent with to you regarding `Ali, so whomever obeys me in it will have obeyed Allah, and whomever disobeys me in it will have disobeyed Allah – he will have no argument in his favour with Allah, and his end will be what Allah has described in His Book, “Whoever disobeys Allah and His Messenger and transgresses His limits, He will put him into the Fire to abide eternally therein.” (4:14)

12 - حدثنا محمد بن إبراهيم بن إسحاق (رضي الله عنه)، قال: حدثنا محمد ابن جرير الطبري، قال: حدثنا الحسن بن محمد، قال: حدثني محمد بن عبد الرحمن المخزومي، قال: حدثني محمد بن أبي يعفور، عن موسى بن أبي أيوب التميمي، عن موسى بن المغيرة، عن الضحاك بن مزاحم، قال: ذكر علي (عليه السلام) عند ابن عباس بعد وفاته، فقال: وا أسفاه على أبي الحسن، مضى والله ما غير ولا بدل ولا قصر ولا جمع ولا منع ولا آثرا إلا الله، والله لقد كانت الدنيا أهون عليه من شسع نعله، ليث في الوغى، بحر في المجالس، حكيم في الحكماء، هيهات قد مضى إلى الدرجات  العلى (1).

بعد وفاته فقال

Muhammad b. Ibrahim b. Ishaq (ra) narrated to us. He said: Muhammad b. Jarir al-Tabari narrated to us. He said: Al-Hasan b. Muhammad narrated to us. He said: Muhammad b. `Abd al-Rahman al-Makhzumi narrated to me. He said: Muhammad b. Abi Ya`fur narrated to me from Musa b. Abi Ayyub al-Tamimi from Musa b. al-Mughira from al-Dahhak b. Mazahim. He said: `Ali (as) was mentioned in the presence of Ibn `Abbas after his death, so he said: How tragic is what happened to Abi’l Hasan! He passed away, and by Allah, he did not change anything, nor did he exchange anything, nor did he shorten anything, nor did he join anything, nor did he prevent anything, nor did he affect anything except for the sake of Allah. By Allah, this world was less significant to him than the sole of his sandal. He was a lion in battle, an ocean in gatherings, and a sage among the sages. Alas, he has passed onto the exalted ranks.

حدثنا محمد بن إبراهيم بن إسحاق (رضي الله عنه)، قال: حدثنا محمد ابن جرير الطبري، قال: حدثنا الحسن بن محمد، قال: حدثني الحسن بن يحيى الدهقان، قال: كنت ببغداد عند قاضي بغداد، واسمه سماعة، إذ دخل عليه رجل من كبار أهل بغداد، فقال له: أصلح الله القاضي، إني حججت في السنين الماضية، فمررت بالكوفة، فدخلت في مرجعي إلى مسجدها، فبينا أنا واقف في المسجد أريد الصلاة إذا أمامي امرأة أعرابية بدوية مرخية الذوائب عليها شملة، وهي تنادي وتقول: يا مشهورا في السماوات، يا مشهورا في الارضين، يا مشهورا في الآخرة، يا مشهورا في الدنيا، جهدت الجبابرة والملوك على إطفاء نورك وإخماد ذكرك، فأبى الله لذكرك إلا علوا، ولنورك إلا ضياء وتماما، ولو كره المشركون. قال: فقلت: يا أمة الله، ومن هذا الذي تصفينه بهذا الصفة؟ قالت: ذلك أمير المؤمنين. قال: فقلت لها: أي أمير المؤمنين هو؟ قالت: علي بن أبي طالب، الذي لا يجوز التوحيد إلا به وبولايته. قال: فالتفت إليها فلم أر أحدا (2).

امرأة أعرابية بدوية مرخية الذوائب عليها شملة

و هي تنادي

Muhammad b. Ibrahim b. Ishaq (ra) narrated to us. He said: Muhammad b. Jarir al-Tabari narrated to us. He said: Al-Hasan b. Muhammad narrated to us. He said: Al-Hasan b. Yahya al-Dahqan narrated to me. He said: I was in Baghdad with the judge of Baghdad, and his name was Sama`a. A man from the elders of Baghdad visited him and said to him: May Allah rectify the judge. I went on Hajj in one of the past years and I passed through Kufa. I entered its mosque. I stood in the mosque intending to pray when I saw a Bedouin woman before me ... with a blanket over her. She was calling out and saying: O he who is prominent in the heavens! O he who is prominent in the Earths! O he who is prominent in the Hereafter! O he who is prominent in this world! The tyrants and the kings strived to extinguish your light and suppress your remembrance, but Allah refused and exalted your remembrance and illuminated and perfected your light, even if the pagans may be averse. He said: So, I said: O maidservant of Allah! Who is this that you describe with this description? She said: That is Amir al-Mu’minin. He said: So, I said: Which commander of the faithful is he? She said: `Ali b. Abi Talib, without whose wilaya there cannot be monotheism. He said: So, I turned to her, and I did not see anyone.
