1 - حدثنا الشيخ الجليل أبو جعفر محمد بن علي بن الحسين بن موسى ابن بابويه القمي (رضي الله عنه)، قال: حدثنا أبو ذر يحيى بن زيد بن العباس بن الوليد البزاز (رضي الله عنه) بالكوفة، قال: حدثنا عمي علي بن العباس، قال: حدثنا علي بن المنذر، قال: حدثنا عبد الله بن سالم، عن حسين بن زيد، عن علي بن عمر بن علي، عن الصادق جعفر بن محمد، عن أبيه، عن علي بن الحسين، عن الحسين بن علي، عن علي بن أبي طالب (عليهم السلام)، عن رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله)، أنه قال: يا فاطمة، إن الله تبارك وتعالى ليغضب لغبضك، ويرضى لرضاك، قال: فجاء صندل، فقال لجعفر ابن محمد (عليهما السلام): يا أبا عبد الله، إن هؤلاء الشباب يجيئونا عنك بأحاديث منكرة! فقال له جعفر (عليه السلام): وما ذاك يا صندل؟ قال: جاءنا عنك أنك حدثتهم أن الله يغضب لغضب فاطمة، ويرضى لرضاها؟ قال: فقال جعفر (عليه السلام): يا صندل، ألستم رويتم فيما تروون أن الله تبارك وتعالى ليغضب لغضب عبده المؤمن، ويرضى لرضاه؟ قال: بلى. قال: فما تنكرون أن تكون فاطمة (عليها السلام) مؤمنة، يغضب الله لغضبها، ويرضى لرضاها! قال: فقال: الله  أعلم حيث يجعل رسالته (1).

أنه قال

Abu Ja`far Muhammad b. `Ali b. al-Husayn b. Musa b. Babuwayh al-Qummi (ra) narrated to us. He said: Abu Dharr Yahya b. Zayd al-`Abbas b. al-Walid al-Bazzaz (ra) narrated to us in Kufa. He said: My uncle `Ali b. al-`Abbas narrated to us. He said: `Ali b. al-Mundhir narrated to us. He said: `Abdullah b. Muslim narrated to us from Husayn b. Zayd from `Ali b. `Umar b. `Ali from al-Sadiq Ja`far b. Muhammad from his father from `Ali b. al-Husayn from al-Husayn b. `Ali from `Ali b. Abi Talib (as) from the Messenger of Allah (s). He said: O Fatima! Surely, Allah becomes angry with what angers you, and He becomes pleased with what pleases you. He said: So, Sandal came and said to Ja`far b. Muhammad (s): O Aba `Abdillah! Surely, these young men come to us with false sayings attributed to you! So, Ja`far (as) said to him: What is that, Sandal? He said: It came to us from you that you narrated to them that Allah becomes angry with what angers Fatima, and He becomes pleased with what pleases her. He said: So, Ja`far (as) said: O Sandal! Do you not narrate that Allah becomes angry with what angers His believing servant, and He becomes pleased with what pleases him? He said: Of course. He said: Then, why do you deny that Fatima (as) was a believer, and that Allah becomes angry with what angers her, and that He becomes pleased with what pleases her?! He said: So, he said: Allah knows best where to place His message.

2 - حدثنا أبو الحسن علي بن الحسين بن شقير (2) بن يعقوب بن الحارث بن إبراهيم الهمداني في منزله بالكوفة، قال: حدثنا أبو عبد الله جعفر بن أحمد بن يوسف الازدي، قال: حدثنا علي بن بزرج الحناط، قال: حدثنا عمرو بن اليسع، عن عبد الله بن اليسع، عن عبد الله (3) بن سنان، عن أبي عبد الله الصادق جعفر ابن محمد (عليهما السلام)، قال: أتي رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله) فقيل له: إن سعد بن معاذ قد مات. فقام رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله) وقام أصحابه معه فأمر بغسل سعد وهو قائم على عضادة الباب (4)، فلما أن حنط وكفن وحمل على سريره، تبعه رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله) بلا حذاء ولا رداء، ثم كان يأخذ يمنة السرير مرة ويسرة السرير مرة حتى انتهى به إلى القبر، فنزل رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله) حتى لحده وسوى اللبن عليه وجعل يقول: ناولوني حجرا، ناولوني ترابا رطبا، يسد به ما بين اللبن، فلما أن فرغ وحثا التراب عليه وسوى قبره، قال رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله): إني لاعلم أنه سيبلى ويصل البلى إليه، ولكن الله يحب عبدا إذا عمل عملا أحكمه. فلما أن سوى التربة عليه قالت أم سعد: يا سعد، هنيئا لك الجنة. فقال رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله): يا أم سعد مه، لا تجزمي على ربك، فإن سعدا قد أصابته ضمة. قال: فرجع رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله)، ورجع الناس، فقالوا له: يا رسول الله، لقد رأيناك صنعت على سعد ما لم تصنعه على أحد، إنك تبعت جنازته بلا رداء ولا حذاء؟ فقال (صلى الله عليه وآله): إن الملائكة كانت بلا رداء ولا حذاء، فتأسيت بها، قالوا: وكنت تأخذ يمنة السرير مرة ويسرة السرير مرة؟ قال: كانت يدي في يد  جبرئيل (عليه السلام) آخذ حيث يأخذ. قالوا: أمرت بغسله، وصليت على جنازته ولحدته في قبره، ثم قلت: إن سعدا قد أصابته ضمة؟ قال: فقال (صلى الله عليه وآله): نعم، إنه كان في خلقه مع أهله سوء (1).

قال أتى

Abu’l Hasan `Ali b. al-Husayn b. Shaqir b. Ya`qub b. al-Harith b. Ibrahim al-Hamadani narrated to us in his house in Kufa. He said: Abu `Abdillah Ja`far b. Ahmad b. Yusuf al-Azdi narrated to us. He said: `Ali b. Bazraj al-Hannat narrated to us. He said: `Amr b. Alyasa` narrated to us from `Abdullah b. Alyasa` from `Abdullah b. Sinan from Abi `Abdillah al-Sadiq Ja`far b. Muhammad (as). He said: It was said to the Messenger of Allah (s): Sa`d b. Mu`adh has died. So, the Messenger of Allah (s) stood, and his companions stood with him. While he was standing at the door, he commanded that Sa`d was to be washed. When he was embalmed, shrouded, and carried on his coffin, the Messenger of Allah (s) followed him without sandals and without a cloak. He would take to the right of the coffin once and to the left of the coffin once until he ended up at the grave. So, the Messenger of Allah (s) entered the grave and settled it, saying: Give me stones, and give me fresh soil to fill in the gaps. When he finished preparing his grave, the Messenger of Allah (s) said: Surely, I know that he will be afflicted, and that affliction will reach him, but Allah loves a servant that does an act that He proscribed. When he evened the dust on him, the mother of Sa`d said: O Sa`d! Congratulations to you on Paradise. So, the Messenger of Allah (s) said: O mother of Sa`d! Stop, and do not make assumptions for your Lord, for Sa`d has been afflicted with constriction [in his grave]. He said: So, the Messenger of Allah (s) returned, and the people returned. So, they said to him: O Messenger of Allah! We have seen you do for Sa`d that which we have not seen you do for anyone else. You followed his funeral without sandals and without a cloak. So, he (s) said: The angels were without their cloaks and without their sandals, so I did the same. They said: You took to the right of the coffin once and to the left of the coffin once. He said: My hand was in the hand of Gabriel (as), and I went where he took me. They said: You commanded that he be washed, and you offered his funeral prayer, and placed him in his grave, then you said: “Sa`d has been afflicted with constriction.” So, he (s) said: Yes. He had poor character when dealing with his family.

3 - حدثنا محمد بن أحمد بن علي بن أسد الاسدي بالري في رجب سنة سبع وأربعين وثلاثمائة، قال: حدثنا عبد الله بن سليمان، وعبد الله بن محمد الوهبي، وأحمد بن عمير ومحمد بن أبي أيوب، قالوا: حدثنا عبد الله بن هانئ بن عبد الرحمن، قال: حدثنا أبي، عن عمه إبراهيم، عن أم الدرداء، عن أبي الدرداء، قال: قال رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله): من أصبح معافى في جسده، آمنا في سربه (2)، عنده قوت يومه، فكأنما خيرت له الدنيا. يا بن جعشم، يكفيك منها ما سد جوعتك، ووارى عورتك، فإن يكن بيت يكنك فذاك، وإن تكن دابة تركبها فبخ بخ، وإلا فالخبز وماء الجر (3)، وما بعد ذلك حساب عليك أو عذاب (4).

قال قال

Muhammad b. Ahmad b. `Ali b. Asad al-Asadi narrated to us in Ray in Rajab in 347 AH. He said: `Abdullah b. Sulayman and `Abdullah b. Muhammad al-Wahbi and Ahmad b. `Umayr and Muhammad b. Abi Ayyub narrated to us. They said: `Abdullah b. Hani’ b. `Abd al-Rahman narrated to us. He said: My father narrated to us from his uncle Ibrahim from Umm al-Darda’ from Abi’l Darda’. He said: The Messenger of Allah (s) said: Whoever awakes with a healthy body, peace of mind, and enough provision for his day, it is as though he has been given the goodness of this world. O Ibn Khash`am! It suffices to have that which stops your hunger and that which covers your nakedness. If you have a house, then that is even better. If you have a beast to ride, then bravo; if not, then bread and running water. There is nothing beyond that except that you will be reckoned or punished for it.

4 - حدثنا محمد بن علي بن الفضل الكوفي (رضي الله عنه) في مسجد أمير المؤمنين (عليه السلام) بالكوفة، قال: حدثنا محمد بن جعفر المعروف بابن التبان، قال: حدثنا محمد بن القاسم النهمي، قال: حدثنا محمد بن عبد الوهاب، قال: حدثنا إبراهيم بن محمد الثقفي، قال: حدثنا توبة بن الخليل، قال: سمعت محمد بن الحسن يقول: حدثنا هارون بن خارجة، قال: قال لي الصادق جعفر بن محمد (عليهما السلام): كم بين منزلك وبين مسجد الكوفة؟ فأخبرته، فقال: ما بقي ملك مقرب ولا نبي مرسل ولا عبد صالح دخل الكوفة إلا وقد صلى فيه، وإن رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله) مر به ليلة أسري به، فاستأذن له الملك فصلى فيه ركعتين، والصلاة الفريضة فيه ألف صلاة، والنافلة فيه خمسمائة صلاة، والجلوس فيه من غير تلاوة قرآن عبادة، فاته ولو زحفا (1).

Muhammad b. `Ali b. al-Fadl al-Kufi (ra) narrated to us in the Mosque of Amir al-Mu'minin (as) in Kufa. He said: Muhammad b. Ja`far known as Ibn Tibyan narrated to us. He said: Muhammad b. al-Qasim al-Nahmi narrated to us. He said: Muhammad b. `Abd al-Wahhab narrated to us. He said: Ibrahim b. Muhammad al-Thaqafi narrated to us. He said: Tawba b. al-Khalil narrated to us. He said: I heard Muhammad b. al-Hasan say: Harun b. Kharija narrated to us. He said: Al-Sadiq Ja`far b. Muhammad (as) said to me: How far is your house from the Mosque of Kufa? So, I informed him. So, he said: There has not been an Angel of Proximity nor a commissioned prophet nor a righteous servant that entered Kufa except that he prayed in it. Surely, the Messenger of Allah (s) passed by it on his Night Journey. He sought the angel’s permission, then prayed two units there. An obligatory prayer in it is worth one thousand prayers. A voluntary prayer in it is worth five hundred prayers. Sitting in it without [even] reciting the Quran is [considered] worship. So, go to it, even if you must crawl.

5 - حدثنا محمد بن أحمد بن إبراهيم الليثي، قال: حدثنا عبد الله بن محمد بن عبد العزيز البغوي، قال: حدثنا علي بن الجعد، قال: أخبرنا شعبة، قال: حدثنا الحكم، قال: سمعت ابن أبي ليلى يقول: لقيت كعب بن عجرة، فقال، ألا أهدي لك هدية؟ إن رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله) خرج علينا، فقلنا: يا رسول الله، قد علمتنا كيف السلام عليك، فكيف الصلاة عليك؟ قال: قولوا: اللهم صل على محمد، كما صليت على إبراهيم، إنك حميد مجيد، وبارك على آل محمد، كما باركت على آل إبراهيم، إنك حممد مجيد (2).

He said: Al-Hakam narrated to us. He said: I heard Ibn Abi Layla say: I met Ka`b b. `Ajra, so he said: Shall I not gift something to you? Surely, the Messenger of Allah (s) came to us, so we said: O Messenger of Allah! You have taught us how to send peace (salaam) to you, but how do we send blessings to you? He said: Say: “O Allah! Bless Muhammad, just as you blessed Ibrahim. Surely, You are Majestic and Glorious. Send benedictions upon the Family of Muhammad, just as You sent benedictions upon the Family of Ibrahim. Surely, You are Majestic and Glorious. (Allahumma salli `ala Muhammad kama sallayta `ala Ibrahim, innaka hamidun majid. Wa barik `ala aali Muhammad kama barakta `ala aali Ibrahim, innaka hamidun majid)”

6 - حدثنا الحسن بن عبد الله بن سعيد بن الحسن بن إسماعيل بن حكيم العسكري، قال: حدثنا عبد الله بن محمد بن عبد الكريم، قال: حدثنا محمد بن عبد الرحمن البرقي: قال: حدثنا عمرو بن أبي سلمة، قال: قرأت على أبي عمر الصنعاني، عن العلاء بن عبد الرحمن، عن أبيه، عن أبي هريرة: أن رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله) قال: رب أشعث أغبر ذي طمرين مدقع (3) بالابواب، لو أقسم على الله لابره (4).

Al-Hasan b. `Abdullah b. Sa`id b. al-Hasan b. Isma`il b. Hakim al-`Askari narrated to us. He said: `Abdullah b. Muhammad b. `Abd al-Karim narrated to us. He said: Muhammad b. `Abd al-Rahman al-Barqi narrated to us. He said: `Amr b. Abi Salama narrated to us. He said: I read it with Abi Umar al-Sanani from al-`Ala' b. `Abd al-Rahman from his father from Abi Hurayra. The Messenger of Allah (s) said: There may be a beggar who is disheveled, dusty, and wearing two tattered garments who is refused at the doors, but [he may be so pious that] if he were to ask something of Allah, He would fulfill it for him.

7 - حدثنا الحسن بن عبد الله بن سعيد، قال: حدثنا محمد بن أحمد بن حمدان بن المغيرة القشيري، قال: حدثنا أبو الحريش أحمد بن عيسى الكلابي، قال: حدثنا موسى بن إسماعيل بن موسى بن جعفر بن محمد بن علي بن الحسين بن علي ابن أبي طالب (عليه السلام) سنة خمسين ومائتين، قال: حدثني أبي، عن أبيه، عن جده جعفر بن محمد، عن أبيه، عن آبائه، عن علي بن أبي طالب (عليهم السلام)، في قول الله عز وجل: (هل جزاء الاحسان إلا الاحسان) (1)، قال: سمعت رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله) يقول: إن الله عز وجل قال: ما جزاء من أنعمت عليه بالتوحيد إلا الجنة (2).

Al-Hasan b. `Abdullah b. Sa`id narrated to us. He said: Muhammad b. Ahmad b. Hamdan b. al-Mughira al-Qushayri narrated to us. He said: Abu'l Harish Ahmad b. `Isa al-Kilabi narrated to us. He said: Musa b. Isma`il b. Musa b. Ja`far b. Muhammad b. `Ali b. al-Husayn b. `Ali b. Abi Talib (as) narrated to us in in 250 AH.  He said: My father narrated to me from his father from his grandfather Ja`far b. Muhammad from his father from his forefathers from `Ali b. Abi Talib (as) regarding the saying of Allah, “Can the reward for good be other than good?” (55:60) He said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (s) say: What can the reward of one who has been blessed with monotheism be other than Paradise?

8 - حدثنا جعفر بن الحسين (رضي الله عنه)، قال: حدثنا محمد بن جعفر بن بطة، قال: حدثنا أحمد بن محمد بن خالد، عن أبيه، عن محمد بن سنان، عن عبد الله ابن مسكان، عن أبي عبد الله الصادق (عليه السلام)، قال: إن أحق الناس بأن يتمنى للناس الغنى البخلاء، لان الناس إذا استغنوا كفوا عن أموالهم، وإن أحق الناس بأن يتمنى للناس الصلاح أهل العيوب، لان الناس إذا صلحوا كفوا عن تتبع عيوبهم، وإن أحق الناس بأن يتمنى للناس الحلم أهل السفه الذين يحتاجون أن يعفى عن سفههم، فأصبح أهل البخيل يتمنون فقر الناس، وأصبح أهل العيوب يتمنون معايب الناس، وأصبح أهل السفه يتمنون سفه الناس، وفي الفقر الحاجة إلى البخيل، وفي الفساد طلب عورة أهل العيوب، وفي السفه المكافأة بالذنوب (3).

Ja`far b. al-Husayn (ra) narrated to us. He said: Muhammad b. Ja`far b. Batta narrated to us. He said: Ahmad b. Muhammad b. Khalid narrated to us from his father from Muhammad b. Sinan from `Abdullah b. Muskan from Abi `Abdillah al-Sadiq (as). He said: The most deserving of people to hope that the people become rich are the poor, because if the people become rich, then they will become needless of their wealth [and they would give it out more freely]. The most deserving of people to hope that the people become rectified are those with flaws, because if they become rectified, they will stop following up on their flaws. The most deserving of people to hope that the people become forbearing are the fools who need to be pardoned for their foolishness.  However, the poor hope for the people to become poor, those with flaws hope that the people become flawed, and the fools hope that the people become foolish; even though poverty brings about stinginess, flaws cause people to find flaws in others, and foolishness brings about the sins.

9 - حدثنا أحمد بن هارون الفامي (رضي الله عنه)، قال: حدثنا محمد بن جعفر بن بطة، قال: حدثنا أحمد بن إسحاق بن سعد، عن بكر بن محمد، عن الصادق جعفر بن محمد، عن أبيه، عن آبائه (عليهم السلام)، قال: قال أمير المؤمنين (عليه السلام): الناس في الجمعة على ثلاث منازل: رجل شهدها بإنصات وسكون قبل الامام وذلك كفارة لذنوبه من الجمعة إلى الجمعة الثانية وزيادة ثلاثة أيام، لقول الله عز وجل: (من جاء بالحسنة فله عشر أمثالها) (4)، ورجل شهدها بلغط (5) وملق وقلق فذلك حظه، ورجل شهدها والامام يخطب فقام يصلي فقد أخطأ السنة، وذاك ممن إذا سأل الله عز وجل، إن شاء أعطاه، وإن شاء حرمه (1).

Ahmad b. Harun al-Fami (ra) narrated to us. He said: Muhammad b. Ja`far b. Batta narrated to us. He said: Ahmad b. Ishaq b. Sa`id narrated to us from Bakr b. Muhammad from al-Sadiq Ja`far b. Muhammad from his father from his forefathers (as). He said: Amir al-Mu'minin (as) said: People on Friday are of three states: (1) a man who witnesses it attentively and silently before the Imam – that will be a forgiveness of his sins from Friday until the next Friday, plus three days, because of the saying of Allah, “Whoever comes with a good deed will have ten like it.” (6:160) (2) A man who witnesses it in commotion, noise, and annoyance – so that will be his omen. (3) A man who witnesses it, and the Imam delivers the sermon, so he rises to pray, but he makes a mistake in the sunna – so that will be up to the will of Allah, whether He grants it or forbids it.

10 - حدثنا محمد بن بكران النقاش (رضي الله عنه)، قال: حدثنا أحمد بن محمد الهمداني مولى بني هاشم، قال: حدثني عبيد بن حمدون الرؤاسي، قال: حدثنا حسين بن نصر، عن أبيه، عن عمرو بن شمر، عن جابر، عن أبي جعفر الباقر، عن علي بن الحسين، عن الحسين بن علي، عن علي بن أبي طالب (عليهم السلام)، قال: شكوت إلى رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله) دينا كان علي، فقال: يا علي، قل اللهم أغنني بحلالك عن حرامك، وبفضلك عمن سواك، فلو كان عليك مثل صبير دينا قضاه الله عنك. وصبير: جبل باليمن، ليس باليمين جبل أجل ولا أعظم منه (2).

Muhammad b. Bukran al-Niqash (ra) narrated to us. He said: Ahmad b. Muhammad al-Hamadani the servant of Bani Hashim narrated to us. He said: `Ubayd b. Hamdun al-Ru'asi narrated to me. He said: Husayn b. Nasr narrated to us from his father from `Amr b. Shimr from Jabir from Abi Ja`far al-Baqir from `Ali b. al-Husayn from al-Husayn b. `Ali from `Ali b. Abi Talib (as). He said: I complained to the Messenger of Allah (s) about a debt that I had, so he said: O `Ali! Say: “O Allah! Enrich me with Your lawful things over Your unlawful things, and with preferring You over others (Allahumma aghnini bi halalik `an haramik, wa bi fadlik `amman sawak)”. Even if your debt were the size of Sabir, Allah would settle it. Sabir is a mountain in Yemen, and there is no mountain greater [in size] than it.

11 - حدثنا محمد بن أحمد بن إبراهيم الليثي، قال: حدثنا أحمد بن محمد الهمداني، قال: حدثنا يعقوب بن يوسف بن زياد، قال: حدثنا أحمد بن حماد، عن عمرو بن شمر، عن جابر، عن أبي جعفر الباقر، عن علي بن الحسين، عن الحسين ابن علي، عن علي بن أبي طالب (عليهم السلام)، قال: قال رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله): أنا مدينة الحكمة - وهي الجنة - وأنت يا علي بابها، فكيف يهتدي المهتدي إلى الجنة، ولا يهتدى إليها إلا من بابها؟ (3).

Muhammad b. Ahmad b. Ibrahim al-Laythi narrated to us. He said: Ahmad b. Muhammad al-Hamadani narrated to us. He said: Ya`qub b. Yusuf b. Ziyad narrated to us. He said: Ahmad b. Hammad narrated to us from `Amr b. Shimr from Jabir from Abi Ja`far al-Baqir from `Ali b. al-Husayn from al-Husayn b. `Ali from `Ali b. Abi Talib (as). He said: The Messenger of Allah (s) said: I am the City of Wisdom – and that is Paradise – and you, `Ali, are its Gate. So, how can a guided one be guided to Paradise without being guided to it by its Gate?

12 - حدثنا الحسين بن يحيى بن ضريس البجلي (رضي الله عنه)، قال: حدثنا أبي، قال: حدثنا أبو عوانة، قال: حدثنا أبي، قال: حدثنا عبد الله بن مسلمة القعنبي، قال: حدثنا عبد الله بن لهيعة، عن محمد بن عبد الرحمن بن عروة بن الزبير، عن أبيه، عن جده، قال: وقع رجل في علي بن أبي طالب بمحضر من عمر بن الخطاب، فقال له عمر: تعرف صاحب هذا القبر؟ محمد بن عبد الله بن عبد المطلب، وعلي بن أبي طالب بن عبد المطلب، لا تذكرن عليا إلا بخير، فإنك إن تنقصته آذيت هذا في  قبره (1).

فقال له عمر

Al-Husayn b. Yahya b. Durays al-Bajali (ra) narrated to us. He said: My father narrated to us. He said: Abu `Awana narrated to us. He said: My father narrated to us. He said: `Abdullah b. Maslama al-Qa`nabi narrated to us. He said: `Abdullah b. Lahi`a narrated to us from Muhammad b. `Abd al-Rahman b. `Urwa b. al-Zubayr from his father from his grandfather. He said: A man insulted `Ali b. Abi Talib in the presence of `Umar b. al-Khattab, so `Umar said to him: Do you know who owns this grave? Muhammad b. `Abdullah b. `Abd al-Muttalib and `Ali b. Abi Talib b. `Abd al-Muttalib. Do not mention `Ali except in goodness, for surely, if you [speak of him] disparagingly, you hurt the one in his grave.

13 - حدثنا الحسين بن أحمد بن إدريس (رضي الله عنه)، قال: حدثنا أبي، قال: حدثني محمد بن علي بن محبوب، عن محمد بن الحسين بن أبي الخطاب، عن أبي داود المسترق، واسمه سليمان بن سفيان، قال: قال الصادق جعفر بن محمد (عليهما السلام): يقوم الناس عن فرشهم على ثلاثة أصناف: فصنف له ولا عليه، وصنف عليه ولا له، وصنف لا عليه ولا له، فأما الصنف الذي له ولا عليه، فهو الذي يقوم من منامه ويتوضأ ويصلي ويذكر الله عز وجل، والصنف الذي عليه ولا له، فهو الذي لم يزل في معصية الله حتى نام فذاك الذي عليه ولا له، والصنف الذي لا له ولا عليه، فهو الذي لا يزال نائما حتى يصبح، فذاك لا له ولا عليه (2).

Al-Husayn b. Ahmad b. Idris (ra) narrated to us. He said: My father narrated to us. He said: Muhamad b. `Ali b. Mahbub narrated to me from Muhammad b. al-Husayn b. Abi’l Khattab from Abi Dawud al-Mustaraq – and his name is Sulayman b. Sufyan. He said: Al-Sadiq Ja`far b. Muhammad (as) said: Three types of people get up from their beds: (1) One whose waking is for him and not against him, (2) one whose waking is against him and not for him, and (3) one whose waking is neither for him nor against him. As for the first type, he is one who deliberately awakes from sleep, performs ablution, prays, and remembers Allah (dhikr). As for the second type, he is one who does not stop disobeying Allah until he sleeps again – so that will be against him and not for him. As for the third type, he is one who does not stop sleeping until he awakes in the morning – so that will neither be against him nor for him.

14 - حدثنا أحمد بن محمد بن يحيى العطار (رضي الله عنه)، قال: حدثنا أبي، قال: حدثني محمد بن عبد الجبار، عن الحسن بن علي بن أبي حمزة، قال: أخبرني داود بن كثير الرقي، قال: سمعت أبا عبد الله الصادق (عليه السلام) يقول: من أحب أن يخفف الله عز وجل عنه سكرات الموت، فليكن لقرابته وصولا، وبوالديه بارا، فإذا كان كذلك هون الله عليه سكرات الموت، ولم يصبه في حياته فقر أبدا (3).

Ahmad b. Muhammad b. Yahya al-`Attar (ra) narrated to us. He said: My father narrated to us. He said: Muhammad b. `Abd al-Jabbar narrated to me from al-Hasan b. `Ali b. Abi Hamza. He said: Dawud b. Kathir al-Raqqi informed me. He said: I heard Aba `Abdillah al-Sadiq (as) say: Whoever would like Allah to lighten his pangs of death should maintain his kinship ties and be good to his parents, for if he does that, Allah will protect him from the pangs of death; and he will never be afflicted with poverty in his life.

15 - وبهذا الاسناد، عن الحسن بن علي بن أبي حمزة، عن علي بن ميمون الصائغ، قال: سمعت أبا عبد الله الصادق (عليه السلام) يقول: من أراد أن يدخله الله عز وجل في رحمته ويسكنه جنته، فليحسن خلقه، وليعط النصفة (4) من نفسه، وليرحم اليتيم، وليعن الضعيف، وليتواضع لله الذي خلقه (5).

And by this isnad, from al-Hasan b. `Ali b. Abi Hamza from `Ali b. Maymun al-Sa'igh. He said: I heard Aba `Abdillah al-Sadiq (as) say: Whoever would like Allah to bring him into His mercy and settle him in His Paradise should beautify his character, be fair in personality, be merciful to the orphan, help the weak, and humble himself before Allah who created him.

16 - حدثنا محمد بن الحسن بن أحمد بن الوليد (رضي الله عنه)، قال: حدثنا محمد بن الحسن الصفار، عن يعقوب بن يزيد، عن محمد بن أبي عمير، عن إبراهيم ابن عبد الحميد، عن سعد الاسكاف، [ عن زياد بن عيسى، عن أبي الجارود ] (1)، عن الاصبغ بن نباتة، عن علي (عليه السلام)، أنه كان يقول: من اختلف إلى المسجد أصاب إحدى الثمان: أخا مستفادا في الله، أو علما مستطرفا، أو آية محكمة، أو رحمة منتظرة، أو كلمة ترده عن ردى، أو يسمع كلمة تدله على هدى، أو يترك ذنبا خشية أو حياء (2).

أنه كان يقول

Muhammad b. al-Hasan b. Ahmad b. al-Walid (ra) narrated to us. He said: Muhammad b. al-Hasan al-Saffar narrated to us from Ya`qub b. Yazid from Muhammad b. Abi `Umayr from Ibrahim b. `Abd al-Hamid from Sa`d al-Askaf from Ziyad b. `Isa from Abi'l Jarud from al-Asbagh b. Nubata from `Ali (as). He would say: Whoever frequents the mosques will gain one of eight things: (1) a brother who will assist him for Allah, (2) valuable knowledge, (3) a firm sign (ayatun muhkama), (4) an awaited mercy, (5) a word that will guide him away from falsehood, (6) hearing a word that will take him to guidance, (7) abandoning a sin out of humility [before Allah], or (8) modesty.

17 - حدثنا أبي (رضي الله عنه)، قال: حدثنا علي بن إبراهيم، عن أبيه إبراهيم ابن هاشم، عن حماد بن عيسى، عن حريز بن عبد الله، عن زرارة بن أعين، قال: قال أبو جعفر (عليه السلام): إنما فرض الله عز وجل على الناس من الجمعة إلى الجمعة خمسا وثلاثين صلاة، فيها صلاة واحدة فرضها الله في جماعة وهي الجمعة، ووضعها عن تسعة: عن الصغير، والكبير، والمجنون، والمسافر، والعبد، والمرأة والمريض، والاعمى، ومن كان على رأس فرسخين (3).

My father (ra) narrated to us. He said: `Ali b. Ibrahim narrated to us from his father Ibrahim b. Hashim from Hammad b. `Isa from Hariz b. `Abdullah from Zurara b. A`yan. He said: Abu Ja`far (as) said: Allah has obligated thirty-five prayers from one Friday to the next Friday, one of which is the Friday prayer that Allah obligated on Friday. He exempted it from nine: (1) the children, (2) the elderly, (3) the insane, (4) the traveller, (5) the slave, (6) women, (7) the ill, (8) the blind, and (9) those who are two parasangs away.

18 - وبهذا الاسناد، قال: قال أبو جعفر الباقر (عليه السلام): القنوت في الوتر كقنوتك يوم الجمعة، تقول في دعاء القنوت: اللهم تم نورك فهديت، فلك الحمد ربنا، وبسطت يدك فأعطيت، فلك الحمد ربنا، وعظم حلمك فعفوت، وفلك الحمد ربنا، وجهك أكرم الوجوه، وجهتك خير الجهات، وعطيتك أفضل العطيات وأهنأها، تطاع ربنا فتشكر، وتعصى ربنا فتغفر لمن شئت، تجيب المضطر، وتكشف الضر، وتشفي السقيم، وتنجي من الكرب العظيم، لا يجزي بآلائك أحد، ولا يحصي نعماءك قول قائل. اللهم إليك رفعت الابصار، ونقلت الاقدام، ومدت الاعناق، ورفعت الايدي، ودعيت بالالسن، وتحوكم إليك في الاعمال، ربنا اغفر لنا وارحمنا، وافتح بيننا وبين خلقك بالحق، وأنت خير الفاتحين. اللهم إليك نشكو غيبة نبينا، وشدة الزمان علينا، ووقوع الفتن، وتظاهر الاعداء، وكثرة عدونا، وقلة عددنا، فافرج ذلك يا رب بفتح منك تعجله، ونصر منك تعزه، وإمام عدل تظهره، إله الحق رب العالمين. ثم تقول في قنوت الوتر بعد هذا: استغفر الله وأتوب إليه سبعين مرة، وتعوذ بالله من النار كثيرا، وتقول في دبر الوتر بعد التسليم: سبحان ربي الملك القدوس العزيز الحكيم، ثلاث مرات. الحمد لرب الصباح، الحمد لفالق الاصباح، ثلاث مرات (1).

And by this isnad. He said: Abu Ja`far al-Baqir (as) said: The qunut in witr is like the qunut on Friday. You say in the supplication of qunut: “O Allah! You perfected Your light, so I was guided, so praise be to You, our Lord. You opened Your hand, so I was given, so praise be to You, our Lord. You made Your forbearance great, so I was pardoned, so praise be to You, our Lord. Your Face is the most noble of faces and Your direction is the best of direction. Your giving is the best of gifts and congratulations to us. When we obey our Lord, You are grateful. When we disobey our Lord, You forgive whomever you wish. You answer the desperate, You take away harm, You heal the ill, and You deliver from the great calamity. No one rewards like You, and none can comprehend Your blessings. O Allah! I have raised my sight to You, and I have moved my feet, stretched out my neck, raised my hands, and supplicated with my tongue for You. I have gone to Your judgment for the actions. Our Lord! Forgive us, have mercy on us, and liberate a way between us and Your creation in justice – You are the best of liberators. O Allah! We complain to You over the absence of our Prophet, the harshness of the time on us, the arrival of seditions, the dominance of enemies, the plenitude of our enemy, and our lack of numbers, so grant relief in that, our Lord, and hasten the liberation from You, glorify the victory from You, and make a just Imam appear, O God of truth and Lord of the worlds.” (Allahumma tamma nurika fahadayt, falakal hamdu rabbana, wa bassatat yadika fa a`tayt, falakal hamdu rabbana, wa `atham hilmika fa `afawtu, wa falakal hamdu rabbana. Wajhaka akram al-wujuh, wa jihtika khayr al-jihat, wa a`tayta afdal al-`atayat wa ahna'ha. Tata` rabbana fa tushkar, wa ta`sa rabbana fa tughfar liman shi'it. Tujib al-mudtar, wa tukhshaf al-durr, wa tushfa al-saqim, wa tunjee min al-karb al-`athim. La yajzi bi ala'ik ahad, wa la yuhsa ni`ma'ika qawli qa'il. Allahumma ilayka rafa`tu absari, wa naqaltul aqdam, wa madattu'l a`naq, wa rafa`tul aydi, wa da`aytu bil lisan wa tahawkum ilayk fil a`mal. Rabbana aghfir lana warhamna, waftah baynana wa bayna khaqikal haq, wa anta khayrul fatihin. Allahumma ilayka nashku ghaybata nabiyyina, wa shiddatul zaman `alayna, wa wuqu` al-fitan, wa tathahir al-a`da', wa kuthrati `aduwina, wa qillati `adadina, wafruj dhalika ya rabb bi fat'h mink tu`ajjaluh, wa nasr minka tu`izzuhuh, wa imamin `adlin tathhiruh., ilahil haq, rabb al-`alamin) Then, say in the qunut of witr after this: “I seek the forgiveness of Allah and I repent to Him” (astaghfirallah wa atubu ilayh) seventy times. Seek refuge in Allah from the Fire many times. After completing the witr after the taslim, say: “May my Lord be glorified; the King, the Holy, the Glorious, the Wise” (Subhana rabbi, al-malik, al-quddus, al-`aziz, al-hakim) three times. [Then]: “Praise be to the Lord of the morning, praise be to the splitter of the mornings” (alhamdulillah rabb al-sabah, alhamdu li faliq alasbah) three times.

19 - حدثنا محمد بن علي ماجيلويه (رضي الله عنه)، قال: حدثنا محمد بن يحيى العطار، عن محمد بن أحمد بن يحيى بن عمران الاشعري، عن موسى بن جعفر البغدادي، عن علي بن معبد، عن بندار بن حماد، عن عبد الله بن فضالة، عن أبي عبد الله - أو أبي جعفر - (عليهما السلام)، قال: سمعته يقول: إذا بلغ الغلام ثلاث سنين يقال له سبع مرات: قل لا إله إلا الله، ثم يترك حتى يتم له ثلاث سنين وسبعة أشهر وعشرون يوما، فيقال له: قل محمد رسول الله، سبع مرات، ويترك حتى يتم له أربع سنين، ثم يقال له سبع مرات: قل صلى الله على محمد وآله، ثم يترك حتى يتم له خمس سنين، ثم يقال له: أيهما يمينك، وأيهما شمالك؟ فإذا عرف ذلك حول وجهه إلى القلبة ويقال له: اسجد، ثم يترك حتى يتم له ست سنين، فإذا تم له ست سنين صلى وعلم الركوع والسجود، ثم يترك حتى يتم له سبع سنين، فإذا تم له سبع سنين، قيل: له اغسل وجهك وكفيك، فإذا غسلهما قيل له: صلى، ثم يترك حتى يتم له تسع سنين، فإذا تمت له علم الوضوء وضرب عليه، وأمر بالصلاة وضرب عليها، فإذا تعلم الوضوء والصلاة غفر الله لوالديه إن شاء الله تعالى (2).

Muhammad b. Ali Majiluwayh (ra) narrated to us. He said: Muhammad b. Yahya al-`Attar narrated to us from Muhammad b. Ahmad b. Yahya b. Imran al-Ash`ari from Musa b. Ja`far al-Baghdadi from Ali b. Mu`abbad from Bandar b. Hammad from `Abdullah b. Fadala from Abi `Abdillah or Abi Ja`far (as). He said: I heard him say: When a child reaches three years, the following is to be said to him seven times: “Say: there is no god but Allah (qul la ilaha illallah).” Then, he is left until he reaches three years and seven months and twenty days, when it is to be said to him seven times: “Say: Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah (muhammadun rasul allah).” Then, he is left until he reaches four years. Then, it is to be said to him seven times: “Say: The blessings of Allah are on Muhammad and his Family (sallallahu `ala muhammadiw wa alih).” Then, he is left until he reaches five years. Then, it is to be said to him: “Where is your right, and where is your left?” When he understands that, turn his face to the qibla and it is to be said to him: Prostrate. Then, he is left until he reaches six years. When he reaches six years, he prays, and he is to learn to bow and prostrate. Then, he is left until he reaches seven years. When he reaches seven years, it is to be said to him: Wash your face and your hands. When he washes them, it is said to him: Pray. Then, he is left until he reaches nine years. When he reaches nine years, teach him the knowledge of the ablution and make him fulfill it, and command him to pray and make him fulfill it. If he learns to make ablution and pray, Allah forgives his parents God-willingly.
