- حدثنا الشيخ الفقيه أبو جعفر محمد بن علي بن الحسين بن موسى ابن بابويه القمي (رضي الله عنه)، قال: حدثنا محمد بن الحسن بن أحمد بن الوليد (رحمه الله)، قال: حدثنا الحسن بن متيل الدقاق، قال: حدثنا أحمد بن أبي عبد الله البرقي، عن أبيه، عن يونس بن عبد الرحمن، عن عبد الرحمن بن الحجاج، قال: سمعت الصادق (عليه السلام) يقول: من رأى أخاه على أمر يكرهه، فلم يرده عنه، وهو يقدر عليه، فقد خانه، ومن لم يجتنجب مصادقة الاحمق أوشك أن يتخلق بأخلاقه (1).

يقول

Abu Ja`far Muhammad b. `Ali b. al-Husayn b. Musa b. Babuwayh al-Qummi (ra) narrated to us. He said: Muhammad b. al-Hasan b. Ahmad b. al-Walid (rh) narrated to us. He said: Al-Hasan b. Matil al-Daqaq narrated ot us. He said: Ahmad b. Abi `Abdillah al-Barqi narrated to us from his father from Yunus b. `Abd al-Rahman from `Abd al-Rahman b. al-Hajjaj. He said: I heard al-Sadiq (as) say: Whoever sees his brother doing something he hates and does not turn him away from it when he is able to, then he has betrayed him. Whoever does not avoid friendship with a fool, then I suspect that he is of his character.

2 - حدثنا أبي (رحمه الله)، قال: حدثنا محمد بن يحيى العطار، عن محمد ابن عبد الجبار، عن أبي أحمد الازدي، عن أبان بن عثمان، عن أبان بن تغلب، عن عكرمة، عن ابن عباس، قال: قال رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله): إن الله عز وجل آخى بيني وبين علي بن أبي طالب، وزوجه ابنتي فوق سبع سماواته، وأشهد على ذلك مقربي ملائكته، وجعله لي وصيا وخليفة، فعلي مني وأنا منه، محبه محبي، ومبغضه مبغضي، وإن الملائكة لتتقرب إلى الله بمحبته (2).

My father (rh) narrated to us. He said: Muhammad b. Yahya al-`Attar narrated to us from Muhammad b. `Abd al-Jabbar from Abi Ahmad al-Azdi from Aban b. `Uthman from Aban b. Taghlub from `Ikrama from Ibn `Abbas. He said: The Messenger of Allah (s) said: Surely, Allah established a brotherhood between me and `Ali b. Abi Talib and married him to my daughter above the seven heavens – and His Angels of Proximity bore witness to that. He made him a deputy and a vicegerent for me. So, `Ali is from me and I am from him. Those who love him love me, and those who hate him hate me. Surely, the angels gain Allah’s proximity by loving him.

3 - حدثنا محمد بن موسى بن المتوكل (رحمه الله)، قال: حدثنا علي بن إبراهيم، عن محمد بن عيسى بن عبيد، عن يونس بن عبد الرحمن، عن الحسن بن زياد، عن الصادق جعفر بن محمد (عليه السلام)، أنه قال: إن الله تبارك وتعالى رضي لكم الاسلام دينا، فأحسنوا صحبته بالسخاء وحسن الخلق (1).

أنه قال

Muhammad b. Musa b. al-Mutawakkil (rh) narrated to us. He said: `Ali b. Ibrahim narrated to us from Muhammad b. `Isa b. `Ubayd from Yunus b. `Abd al-Rahman from al-Hasan b. Ziyad from al-Sadiq Ja`far b. Muhammad (as). He said: Surely, Allah wanted Islam to be your religion, so beautify its company with generosity and beautiful character.

4 - حدثنا جعفر بن محمد بن مسرور (رحمه الله)، قال: حدثنا الحسين بن محمد بن عامر، عن عمه عبد الله بن عامر، عن محمد بن سنان، عن طلحة بن زيد، عن الصادق جعفر بن محمد، عن أبيه، عن آبائه (عليهم السلام)، قال: قال رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله): كثرة المزاح تذهب بماء الوجه، وكثرة الضحك تمحو الايمان، وكثرة الكذب تذهب بالبهاء (2).

Ja`far b. Muhammad b. Masrur (rh) narrated to us. He said: Al-Husayn b. Muhammad b. `Amer narrated to us from his uncle `Abdillah b. `Amer from Muhammad b. Sinan from Talha b. Zayd from al-Sadiq Ja`far b. Muhammad from his father from his forefathers (as). He said: The Messenger of Allah (s) said: An abundance of jesting will recede the water in one’s face, and an abundance of laughing will erase one’s faith, and an abundance of lying will diminish one’s radiance.

5 - حدثنا محمد بن علي ماجيلويه (رحمه الله)، قال: حدثنا علي بن إبراهيم، عن أبيه إبراهيم بن هاشم، عن علي بن معبد، عن الحسين بن خالد، عن أبي الحسن علي بن موسى الرضا عن أبيه عن آبائه (عليهم السلام)، قال: قال رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله): من كان مسلما فلا يمكر ولا يخدع، فإني سمعت جبرئيل (عليه السلام) يقول: إن المكر والخديعة في النار (3).

Muhammad b. `Ali Majiluwayh (rh) narrated to us. He said: `Ali b. Ibrahim narrated to us from his father Ibrahim b. Hashim from `Ali b. Mu`abbad from al-Husayn b. Khalid from Abi’l Hasan `Ali b. Musa al-Rida from his father from his forefathers (as). He said: The Messenger of Allah (s) said: Whoever is a Muslim should not scheme or deceive others, for surely, I heard Gabriel (as) say: “Scheming and deception are in the Fire.”

6 - ثم قال: (صلى الله عليه وآله): ليس منا من غش مسلما، وليس منا من خان مسلما (4).

7 - ثم قال: (صلى الله عليه وآله): إن جبرئيل الروح الامين نزل علي من عند رب العالمين، فقال: يا محمد، عليك بحسن الخلق، فإن سوء الخلق يذهب بخير الدنيا والآخرة، ألا وإن أشبهكم بي أحسنكم خلقا (5).

Then, he (s) said: Surely, Gabriel, the Trustworthy Spirit, came down to me from the Lord of the Worlds and said: “O Muhammad! Betake to good character, for surely, poor character diminishes the good of this world and the Hereafter.” Verily, those of you who resemble me the most are those with the most beautiful character.”

8 - حدثنا الحسين بن إبراهيم بن ناتانه (رحمه الله)، قال: حدثنا علي بن إبراهيم، عن أبيه، عن محمد بن أبي عمير، عن هشام بن سالم، قال: قال الصادق جعفر بن محمد (عليهما السلام): من صلى صلاة مكتوبة ثم سبح في دبرها ثلاثين مرة، لم يبق على بدنه شئ من الذنوب إلا تناثر (1).

Al-Husayn b. Ibrahim b. Natana (rh) narrated to us. He said: `Ali b. Ibrahim narrated to us from his father from Muhammad b. Abi `Umayr from Hisham b. Salim. He said: Al-Sadiq Ja`far b. Muhammad (as) said: Whoever prays a prescribed prayer, then glorifies [Allah] thirty times after it, no sin will remain on his body except that he will have shed it.

9 - حدثنا جعفر بن الحسين، قال: حدثنا محمد بن جعفر، عن أحمد بن أبي عبد الله البرقي، عن الحسن بن محبوب، عن هشام بن سالم، عن أبي عبيدة الحذاء، عن أبي عبد الله (عليه السلام)، قال: أتي النبي (صلى الله عليه وآله) بأسارى فأمر بقتلهم خلا رجل من بينهم، فقال الرجل: بأبي أنت وأمي - يا محمد - كيف أطلقت عني من بينهم؟ فقال: أخبرني جبرئيل عن الله عز وجل أن فيك خمس خصال يحبها الله عز وجل ورسوله: الغيره الشديدة على حرمك، والسخاء، وحسن الخلق، وصدق اللسان، والشجاعة، فلما سمعها الرجل أسلم وحسن إسلامه، وقاتل مع رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله) قتالا شديدا حتى استشهد (2).

قال سأل رجل

...قال ابن عباس فقال

Ja`far b. al-Husayn narrated to us. He said: Muhammad b. Ja`far narrated to us from Ahmad b. Abi `Abdillah al-Barqi from al-Hasan b. Mahbub from Hisham b. Salim from Abi `Ubayda al-Hadha’ from Abi `Abdillah (as). He said: Captives were brought to the Prophet (s), and he ordered that they be killed, except for one man among them. So, the man said: May my mother and my father be your sacrifice, Muhammad. Why did you exempt me from them? So, he said: Gabriel informed me from Allah that you have five characteristics that Allah and His Messenger love: (1) jealousy over your women, (2) generosity, (3) beautiful character, (4) a truthful tongue, and (5) courage. When the man heard this, he converted to Islam and beautified his Islam. He fought intensely alongside the Messenger of Allah (s) until he was martyred.

10 - حدثنا محمد بن إبراهيم بن إسحاق (رحمه الله)، قال: حدثنا عبد العزيز ابن يحيى الجلودي، قال: [ حدثنا محمد بن عطية، قال: حدثنا عبد الله بن عمرو بن سعيد البصري، قال: حدثنا ] (3) هشام بن جعفر، عن حماد، عن عبد الله بن سليمان (4)، وكان قارئا للكتب، قال: قرأت في الانجيل: يا عيسى، جد في أمري ولا  تهزل، واسمع وأطع، يا بن الطاهرة الطهر البكر البتول، أتيت (1) من غير فحل، أنا خلقتك آية للعالمين، فإياي فاعبد، وعلي فتوكل، خذ الكتاب بقوة، فسر لاهل سوريا السريانية، وبلغ من بين يديك أني أنا الله الدائم الذي لا أزول، صدقوا النبي (صلى الله عليه وآله) الامي صاحب الجمل والمدرعة (2) والتاج - وهي العمامة - والنعلين والهراوة - وهي القضيب - الانجل العينين (3)، الصلت الجبين (4)، الواضح (5) الخدين، الاقنى الانف، المفجل (6) الثنايا، كأن عنقه إبريق فضة، كأن الذهب يجري في تراقيه، له شعرات من صدره إلى سرته، ليس على بطنه ولا على صدره شعر، أسمر اللون، دقيق المسربة (7)، شثن (8) الكف والقدم، إذا التفت التفت جميعا، وإذا مشى كأنما يتقلع (9) من الصخرة وينحدر من صبب (10)، وإذا جاء مع القوم بذهم (11)، عرقه في وجهه كاللؤلؤ، وريح المسك ينفح منه، لم ير قبله مثله ولا بعده، طيب الريح، نكاح النساء ذو النسل القليل، إنما نسله من مباركة لها بيت في الجنة، لا صخب فيه ولا نصب، يكفلها في آخر الزمان كما كفل زكريا أمك، لها فرخان مستشهدان، كلامه القرآن، ودينه الاسلام، وأنا السلام، طوبى لمن أدرك زمانه، وشهد أيامه، وسمع كلامه.  قال عيسى (عليه السلام): يا رب، وما طوبى؟ قال: شجرة في الجنة، أنا غرستها، تظل الجنان، أصلها من رضوان، ماؤها من تسنيم، برده برد الكافور، وطعمه طعم الزنجبيل، من يشرب من تلك العين شربة لا يظلما بعدها أبدا. فقال عيسى (عليه السلام): اللهم اسقني منها. قال: حرام - يا عيسى - على البشر أن يشربوا منها حتى يشرب ذلك النبي، وحرام على الامم أن يشربوا منها حتى تشرب أمة ذلك النبي، أرفعك إلي ثم أهبطك في آخر الزمان لترى من أمة ذلك النبي العجائب، ولتعينهم على العين الدجال، أهبطك في وقت الصلاة لتصلي معهم إنهم أمة مرحومة (1).

علي بن أبي طالب عليه السلام

Muhammad b. Ibrahim b. Ishaq (rh) narrated to us. He said: `Abd al-`Aziz b. Yahya al-Juludi narrated to us. He said: [Muhammad b. `Atiyya narrated to us. He said: `Abdullah b. `Amr b. Sa`id al-Basri narrated to us. He said:] Hisham b. Ja`far narrated to us from Hammad from `Abdullah b. Sulayman, who used to read the Scripture. He said: I read in the Gospel: O `Isa! Renew My Order and do not languish. Listen and obey, O son of the pure, chaste virgin. You are not a fool. I made you a sign for the worlds, so worship Me and rely on Me. Take the scripture with strength, go to the people of Syria and Assyria, and inform those before you that I am the eternal God who will never recede, and to believe in the Prophet of the Mother Town, the owner of the camel, the armour, the crown – which is the turban – the two sandals, and the rod – which is the staff. He will have wide eyes, a broad forehead, prominent cheeks, a thin and curved nose, and white teeth. His neck will be like a silver jar, his collarbones will be like gold. He will have hair from his chest to his navel, but not on his stomach or his [entire] chest. He will be tanned in colour, with light hair from his chest to his stomach. His hands and feet will be large. When he turns, he will turn with his whole body. When he walks, it is as though he is stepping from stone to stone (he does not drag his feet). When he walks with the people, he overcomes them [in speed]. The sweat on his face is like pearls, and his scent is like the fragrance of musk. No one like him was ever seen before him nor after him. His scent will be pleasant. He will marry women, but he will have few children, and his child (Fatima) will be blessed, and she will have a house in Paradise. He will support her in the end times just as Zakariyya supported your mother. She will give birth to two martyrs. His words will be the Quran, and his religion will be Islam, and I am Peace. So, Tuba is for he who lives in his time, sees his days, and listens to his words.  So, `Isa (as) said: O Lord! What is Tuba? He said: A tree in Paradise that I planted with My two hands in the shade of Paradise. Its root is in being pleased [with My will], its water is from tasnim, its breeze is from camphor, and its taste is like ginger. Whomever drinks from its river will never thirst again. So, `Isa (as) said: O Allah! Allow me to drink from it. He said: "O `Isa! It is forbidden for the humans to drink from it until that Prophet drinks from it. It is forbidden for the nations to drink from it until the nation of that Prophet drinks from it. O `Isa! I will raise you to Me, then I will send you back down in the End Times so that you may see the marvelous nation of that Prophet, and to save them from the cursed Dajjal. I will send you down during the time of prayer so that you may pray with them. Surely, they are a Nation that has been given mercy.

11 - حدثنا محمد بن إبراهيم بن إسحاق (رضي الله عنه)، قال: حدثنا أبو بكر أحمد بن دبيس بن عبد الله المفسر، قال: حدثنا أحمد بن محمد بن أبي البهلول المروزي، قال: حدثنا الفضل بن هرمز ديار الطبري، قال: حدثنا أبو علي الحسن بن شجاع البلخي، قال: حدثنا سليمان بن الربيع، قال: سمعت كادح بن أحمد يقول: سمعت مقاتل بن سليمان يقول: سمعت الضحاك، قال: سأل رجل ابن عباس: ما الذي أخفى الله تبارك وتعالى من الجنة، وقد أخبر عن أزواجها، وعن خدمها، وطيبها وشرابها وثمرها، وما ذكر الله تبارك وتعالى من أمرها وأنزله في كتابه؟ فقال ابن عباس: هي جنة عدن، خلقها الله يوم الجمعة، ثم أطبق عليها، فلم يرها مخلوق من أهل السماوات والارض حتى يدخلها أهلها، قال لها عز وجل ثلاث مرات: تكلمي. فقالت: طوبى للمؤمنين. قال جل جلاله: طوبى للمؤمنين، وطوبى لك. قال مقاتل: قال الضحاك: قال ابن عباس: فقال النبي (صلى الله عليه وآله) إلا من كان فيه ست خصال فإنه منهم: من صدق حديثه، وأنجز وعده، وأدى أمانته، وبر والديه، ووصل رحمه، واستغفر من ذنبه، فهو مؤمن (2).

Muhammad b. Ibrahim b. Ishaq (ra) narrated to us. He said: Abu Bakr Ahmad b. Dubays b. `Abdullah al-Mufassir narrated to us. He said: Ahmad b. Muhammad b. Abi’l Bahlul al-Maruzi narrated to us. He said: Al-Fadl b. Harmaz Diyar al-Tabari narrated to us. He said: Abu `Ali al-Hasan b. Shuja` al-Balkhi narrated to us. He said: Sulayman b. al-Rabi` narrated to us. He said: I heard Kudah b. Ahmad say: I heard Muqatil b. Sulayman say: I heard al-Dahhak say: A man asked Ibn `Abbas: What has Allah concealed regarding Paradise? He has informed us about its wives, its servants, its good things, its drinks, its fruits, and that which Allah mentioned regarding its matters and revealed in His Book. So, Ibn `Abbas said: It is the Paradise of Eden. Allah created it on Friday, then He sealed it. No creature in the heavens nor the Earth will see it until its people enter it. He said to it three times: “Speak.” Then, it said: “Tuba is for the believers.” He said: “Tuba is for the believers, and Tuba is for you.” Muqatil said: al-Dahhak said: Ibn al-`Abbas said: So, the Prophet (s) said: A believer is not but one who has six characteristics: (1) he speaks truthfully, (2) he fulfills his promises, (3) he fulfills his trusts, (4) he is good to his parents, (5) he connects with his blood-relatives, and (6) he repents from his sins.

12 - حدثنا أبو العباس محمد بن إبراهيم الطالقاني (رحمه الله)، قال: حدثنا  أبو بكر محمد بن القاسم الانباري، قال: حدثنا أبي، قال: حدثنا أبو بكر محمد بن أبي يعقوب الدينوري، قال: حدثنا أحمد بن أبي المقدام العجلي، قال: يروى أن رجلا جاء إلى علي بن أبي طالب (عليه السلام)، فقال: يا أمير المؤمنين، إن لي إليك حاجة. فقال: اكتبها في الارض، فإني أرى الضر فيك بينا. فكتب في الارض: أنا فقير محتاج. فقال علي (عليه السلام): يا قنبر اكسه حلتين. فأنشأ الرجل يقول: كسوتني حلة تبلى محاسنها * * فسوف أكسوك من حسن الثنا حللا إن نلت حسن ثنائي نلت مكرمة * * ولست تبقي بما قد نلته بدلا إن الثناء ليحيي ذكر صاحبه * * كالغيث يحيي نداه السهل والجبلا لا تزهد الدهر في عرف (1) بدأت به * * فكل عبد سيجزى بالذي فعلا فقال علي (عليه السلام): أعطوه مائة دينار، فقيل له: يا أمير المؤمنين، لقد أغنيته. فقال: إني سمعت رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله) يقول: أنزلوا الناس منازلهم. ثم قال علي (عليه السلام): إني لاعجب من أقوام يشترون المماليك بأموالهم، ولا يشترون الاحرار بمعروفهم! (2).

Abu’l `Abbas Muhammad b. Ibrahim al-Talaqani (rh) narrated to us. He said: Abu Bakr Muhammad b. al-Qasim al-Anbari narrated to us. He said: My father narrated to us. He said: Abu Bakr Muhammad b. Abi Ya`qub al-Dinuri narrated to us. He said: Ahmad b. Abi’l Miqdam al-`Ijli narrated to us. He said: It is reported that a man came to `Ali b. Abi Talib (as) and said: O Amir al-Mu’minin! I need something from you. So, he said: Write it in the ground, for I see a malady in you. So, he wrote in the ground: “I am a needy, poor person.” So, `Ali (as) said: O Qanbar! Clothe him in two garments. So, the man recited: You have clothed me in a garment whose beauty will fade, So, I will clothe you in beautiful praise, Once you are gowned in my garment of beautiful praise, you are gowned in honour, I will not remain in that which you have gowned me in, But praise will enliven the memory of its owner, Just as rain enlivens the plains, but the mountain remains For the rest of time in the place where it began, Every worshiper will reap what he sows. So, `Ali (as) said: Give him one hundred gold coins. So, it was said to him: O Amir al-Mu’minin! You have made him rich. So, he said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (s) say: Put people in their proper station. Then, `Ali (as) said: I am astonished at a people who buy slaves with their wealth, but do not buy freemen with their good deeds!

13 - حدثنا أبو العباس محمد بن إبراهيم بن إسحاق (رحمه الله)، قال: حدثنا أبو أحمد عبد الله بن أحمد بن محمد بن عيسى، قال: حدثنا علي بن سعيد بن بشير، قال: حدثنا ابن كاسب، قال: حدثنا عبد الله بن ميمون المكي، قال: حدثنا جعفر ابن محمد، عن أبيه، عن علي بن الحسين (عليهم السلام)، أنه دخل عليه رجلان من قريش، فقال: ألا أحدثكما عن رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله)؟ فقالا: بلى، حدثنا عن أبي القاسم. قال: سمعت أبي (عليه السلام) يقول: لما كان قبل وفاة رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله) بثلاثة أيام هبط عليه جبرئيل، فقال: يا أحمد، إن الله أرسلني إليك إكراما وتفضيلا لك وخاصة، يسألك عما هو أعلم به منك، يقول: كيف تجدك يا محمد؟ قال النبي (صلى الله عليه وآله): أجدني - يا جبرئيل - مغموما وأجدني - يا جبرئيل - مكروبا.  فلما كان اليوم الثلاث هبط جبرئيل وملك الموت، ومعهما ملك يقال له: إسماعيل في الهواء علي سبعين ألف ملك، فسبقهم جبرئيل (عليه السلام)، فقال: يا أحمد، إن الله عز وجل أرسلني إليك إكراما لك وتفضيلا لك وخاصة، يسألك عما هو أعلم به منك. فقال: كيف تجدك يا محمد؟ قال: أجدني - يا جبرئيل - مغموما، وأجدني - يا جبرئيل - مكروبا. فاستأذن ملك الموت، فقال جبرئيل: يا أحمد، هذا ملك الموت يستأذن عليك، لم يستأذن على أحد قبلك، ولا يستأذن على أحد بعدك. قال: ائذن له. فأذن له جبرئيل (عليه السلام)، فأقبل حتى وقف بين يديه، فقال: يا أحمد، إن الله أرسلني إليك، وأمرني أن أطيعك فيما تأمرني، إن أمرتني بقبض نفسك قبضتها، وإن كرهت تركتها. فقال النبي (صلى الله عليه وآله): أتفعل ذلك يا ملك الموت؟ قال: نعم، بذلك أمرت أن أطيعك فيما تأمرني. فقال له جبرئيل (عليه السلام): يا أحمد، أن الله تبارك وتعالى قد اشتاق إلى لقائك. فقال رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله): يا ملك الموت، امض لما أمرت به. فقال جبرئيل (عليه السلام): هذا آخر وطئي الارض، إنما كنت حاجتي من الدنيا. فلما توفي رسول الله (صلى الله على روحه الطيب)، جاءت التعزية، جاءهم آت يسمعون حسه، ولا يرون شخصه، فقال: السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته (كل نفس ذائقة الموت وإنما توفون أجوركم يوم القيامة) (1) إن في الله عز وجل عزاء من كل مصيبة، وخلفا من كل هالك، ودركا من كل ما فات، فبالله فثقوا، وإياه فارجوا، فإن المصاب من حرم الثواب، والسلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته. قال علي بن أبي طالب (عليه السلام): هل تدرون من هذا؟ هذا الخضر (عليه السلام) (2).

Abu’l `Abbas Muhammad b. Ibrahim b. Ishaq (rh) narrated to us. He said: Abu Ahmad `Abdillah b. Ahmad b. Muhammad b. `Isa narrated to us. He said: `Ali b. Sa`id b. Bashir narrated to us. He said: Ibn Kasib narrated to us. He said: `Abdullah b. Maymun al-Makki narrated to us. He said: Ja`far b. Muhammad narrated to us from his father from `Ali b. al-Husayn (as). Two men from Quraysh visited him, so he said: Shall I narrate about the Messenger of Allah (s) for you two? So, they said: Of course – narrate to us about Abi’l Qasim. He said: I heard my father (as) say: Three days before the Messenger of Allah (s) passed away, Gabriel came down to him and said: “O Ahmad! Surely, Allah sent me to you to ennoble and honour you specifically. He asks you about that which He knows more than you regarding. He says: ‘How do you find yourself, Muhammad?’” The Prophet (s) said: “O Gabriel! I find myself distressed. O Gabriel! I find myself in agony.” On the third day, Gabriel came down with the Angel of Death. With them was an angel named Isma`il in the air, alongside seventy thousand angels. Gabriel (as) was before them, so he said: “O Ahmad! Surely, Allah sent me to you to ennoble and honour you specifically. He asks you about that which He knows more than you regarding. He says: ‘How do you find yourself, Muhammad?’” He said: “O Gabriel! I find myself distressed. O Gabriel! I find myself in agony.” So, the Angel of Death sought permission [to enter]. So, Gabriel said: “O Ahmad! This is the Angel of Death, and he seeks your permission. He has never sought anyone’s permission before you, nor will he seek anyone’s permission after you.” He said: “Grant him permission.” So, Gabriel (as) granted him permission. He entered, came before him, and said: “O Ahmad! Allah has sent me to you, and He ordered me to obey you in what you command of me. He ordered me to take your soul, but if you would hate that, then I will leave it alone.” So, the Prophet (s) said: “Would you do that, Angel of Death?” He said: “Yes. I was ordered to do that – to obey you in what you command of me.” So, Gabriel (as) said to him: “O Ahmad! Surely, Allah longs to meet you.” So, the Messenger of Allah (s) said: “O Angel of Death! Do what you have been ordered to do.” So, Gabriel (as) said: “These are my last steps in this world. Surely, you were my only need in this world.” When the Messenger of Allah (s) passed away, the wake was held. A person came whose voice was heard but whose body was not seen. So, he said: “Peace be unto you, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. ‘Every soul shall taste death. You shall receive your reward on the Day of Resurrection.’ (3:185) In Allah is the consolation for every calamity, and the succession for every end, and the abode of all that goes. So, put your trust in Allah, and put your hope in Him, for afflicted is he who forbids the rewards. Peace be unto you, and the mercy of Allah, and His blessings.” `Ali b. Abi Talib (as) said: “Do you know who this is? This is al-Khidr (as).”

14 - حدثنا محمد بن إبراهيم بن إسحاق، قال: حدثنا أبو العباس أحمد  ابن إسحاق المادري (1) بالبصرة في رجب سنة ثمان عشرة وثالث مائة، قال: حدثنا أبو قلابة عبد الملك بن محمد، قال: حدثنا غانم بن الحسن السعدي، قال: حدثنا مسلم ابن خالد المكي، قال: حدثنا جعفر بن محمد، عن أبيه (عليهما السلام)، عن جابر بن عبد الله الانصاري، عن علي بن أبي طالب (عليه السلام)، قال: قالت فاطمة (عليها السلام) لرسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله): يا أبتاه، أين ألقاك يوم الموقف الاعظم، ويوم الاهوال، ويوم الفزع الاكبر؟ قال: يا فاطمة، عند باب الجنة، ومعي لواء الحمد، وأنا الشفيع لامتي إلى ربي. قالت: يا أبتاه، فإن لم ألقك هناك؟ قال: القيني على الحوض وأنا أسقي أمتي. قالت: يا أبتاه، فإن لم ألقك هناك؟ قال: القيني على الصراط وأنا قائم أقول: رب سلم أمتي، قالت: فإن لم ألقك هناك؟ قال: القيني وأنا عند الميزان أقول: رب سلم أمتي. قالت: فإن لم ألقك هناك؟ قال: القيني عند شفير جهنم أمنع شررها ولهبها عن أمتي. فاستبشرت فاطمة بذلك (صلى الله عليها وعلى أبيها وبعلها وبنيها) (2).

Muhammad b. Ibrahim b. Ishaq narrated to us. He said: Abu’l `Abbas Ahmad b. Ishaq al-Madiri narrated to us in Basra in Rajab in the year 318 AH. He said: Abu Qilaba `Abd al-Malik b. Muhammad narrated to us. He said: Ghanim b. al-Hasan al-Sa`di narrated to us. He said: Muslim b. Khalid al-Makki narrated to us. He said: Ja`far b. Muhammad narrated to us from his father (as) from Jabir b. `Abdullah al-Ansari from `Ali b. Abi Talib (as). He said: Fatima (as) said to the Messenger of Allah (s): O father! Where can I find you on the Day of the Great Stand, the Day of Horrors, and the Day of Great Dismay? He said: O Fatima! At the Gate of Paradise. I will have the Banner of Praise, and I am the intercessor for my Nation to my Lord. She said: O father! What if I do not find you there? He said: Find me at the Pond, where I will feed water to my Nation. She said: O father! What if I do not find you there? He said: Find me on the Path, where I will be standing and saying: “My Lord! Safeguard my Nation.” She said: What if I do not find you there? He said: Find me at the Scale, where I will be saying: “My Lord! Safeguard my Nation.” She said: What if I do not find you there? He said: Find me at the mouth of Hell, where I will be preventing its evil and its flames from my Nation. So, Fatima was gladdened by that – may the blessings of Allah be upon her, and upon her father, her husband, and her children.

15 - حدثنا محمد بن إبراهيم بن إسحاق (رحمه الله)، قال: حدثنا أبو أحمد عبد العزيز بن يحيى البصري، قال: حدثنا المغيرة بن محمد، قال: حدثني إبراهيم بن محمد بن عبد الرحمن الازدي سنة ست عشرة ومائتين، قال: حدثنا قيس بن الربيع ومنصور بن أبي الاسود، عن الاعمش، عن المنهال بن عمرو، عن عباد بن عبد الله، قال: قال علي (عليه السلام): ما نزلت من القرآن آية إلا وقد علمت أين نزلت، وفيمن نزلت، وفي أي شئ نزلت، وفي سهل نزلت، أو في جبل نزلت. قيل: فما نزل فيك؟ فقال: لولا أنكم سألتموني ما أخبرتكم، نزلت في هذه الآية: (إنما أنت منذر ولكل قوم هاد) (3)، فرسول الله المنذر، وأنا الهادي إلى ما جاء به (4).

Muhammad b. Ibrahim b. Ishaq (rh) narrated to us. He said: Abu Ahmad `Abd al-`Aziz b. Yahya al-Basri narrated to us. He said: al-Mughira b. Muhammad narrated to us. He said: Ibrahim b. Muhammad b. `Abd al-Rahman al-Azdi narrated to me in the year 216 AH. He said: Qays b. al-Rabi` and Mansur b. Abi’l Aswad narrated to us from al-A`mash from al-Minhal b. `Amr from `Abbad b. `Abdullah. He said: `Ali (as) said: No verse has been revealed from the Quran except that I know where it was revealed, regarding whom it was revealed, regarding what it was revealed, and whether it was revealed on a plain or on a mountain. It was said: What was revealed regarding you? So, he said: Had you not asked me, I would not have informed you. This verse was revealed regarding me: “Surely, you are but a warner, and for every people there is a guide” (13:7) – the Messenger of Allah is the warner, and I am the guide to what he has brought.
