1 - حدثنا الشيخ الجليل أبو جعفر محمد بن علي بن الحسين بن موسى ابن بابويه القمي (رضي الله عنه)، قال: حدثنا علي بن أحمد الدقاق (رحمه الله)، قال: حدثنا أحمد بن يحيى بن زكريا القطان، قال: حدثنا محمد بن إسماعيل البرمكي، قال: حدثنا عبد الله بن محمد، قال: حدثنا أبي، عن خالد بن إلياس، عن أبي بكر بن عبد الله ابن أبي جهم، قال: حدثني أبي، عن جدي، قال: سمعت أبا طالب يحدث عن عبد المطلب، قال: بينا أنا نائم في الحجر إذ رأيت رؤيا هالتني، فأتيت كاهنة قريش، وعلي مطرف (1) خز، وجمتي (2) تضرب منكبي، فلما نظرت إلي عرفت في وجهي التغير، فاستوت، وأنا يومئذ سيد قومي، فقال: ما شأن سيد العرب متغير اللون! هل رابه من حدثان الدهر (3) ريب؟ فقلت لها: بلى، إني رأيت الليلة وأنا نائم في الحجر، كأن شجرة قد نبتت على  ظهري، قد نال رأسها السماء، وضربت بأغصانها الشرق والغرب، ورأيت نورا يزهر منها أعظم من نور الشمس سبعين ضعفا، ورأيت العرب والعجم ساجدة لها، وهي كل يوم تزداد عظما ونورا، ورأيت رهطا من قريش يريدون قطعها، فإذا دنوا منها أخذهم شاب من أحسن الناس وجها، وأنظفهم ثيابا، فيأخذهم ويكسر ظهورهم ويقلع أعينهم، فرفعت يدي لا تناول غصنا من أغصانها، فصاح بي الشاب: مهلا، ليس لك منها نصيب. فقلت: لمن النصيب والشجرة مني؟ فقال: النصيب لهؤلاء الذين قد تعلقوا بها، وستعود إليها: فانتبهت مذعورا فزعا متغير اللون. فرأيت لون الكاهنة قد تغير، ثم قالت: لئن صدقت (1) ليخرجن من صلبك ولد يملك الشرق والغرب، وينبأ في الناس - فتسرى عني غمي - فانظر أبا طالب لعلك تكون أنت. وكان أبو طالب يحدث بهذا الحديث، والنبي (صلى الله عليه وآله) قد خرج ويقول: كانت الشجرة والله أبا القاسم الامين (2).

قال بينا أنا نائم في الحجر إذ رأيت رؤيا

Abu Ja`far Muhammad b. `Ali b. al-Husayn b. Musa b. Babuwayh al-Qummi (ra) narrated to us. He said: `Ali b. Ahmad al-Daqqaq (rh) narrated to us. He said: Ahmad b. Yahya b. Zakariyya al-Qattan narrated to us. He said: Muhammad b. Isma`il al-Barmaki narrate to us. He said: `Abdullah b. Muhammad narrated to us. He said: My father narrated to us from Khalid b. Ilyas from Abi Bakr b. `Abdullah b. Abi Jahm. He said: My father narrated to me from my grandfather. He said: I heard Aba Talib narrate from `Abd al-Muttalib: Once, I was sleeping in the Hijr [of Isma`il] when I saw a dream that frightened me. So, I went to the soothsayer of Quraysh. I was gowned in a sheet of fur, and my hair flowed to my shoulders. When she looked at me, she noticed the change on my face, and she sat down. At that time, I was the chief of my people. So, she said: What happened to the chief of the Arabs – your colour has changed! Has something terrible happened at this time? So, I said to her: Of course. This past night, while I was sleeping in the Hijr, I saw as though a tree had sprung from my back. Its top had reached heaven, and its branches had reached East and West. I saw a light illuminating from it that was seventy times greater than the light of the Sun. I saw the Arabs and the non-Arabs prostrating to it. Its light would intensify everyday. I saw a group from Quraysh who wanted to cut it down – whenever they approached it, a young man with the most beautiful face and the cleanest clothing would take them, break their backs, and gouge their eyes. So, I raised my hand to hold onto one of its branches, but the young man screamed to me: “Stop, you have no share of it.” So, I said: “Then who has a share in it when the tree is from me?” So, he said: “Its share is for these who cling onto it. You will return to it.” Then, I regained consciousness in fear and worry, and my colour had changed. I saw the colour of the soothsayer change. Then, she said: If you are telling the truth, then a child from your descendants will rule the East and the West, and he will prophesy among the people. So, my worry went away. So, pay attention, Aba Talib, for this may be you. Abu Talib would narrate this saying when the Prophet (s) appeared. He would say: This tree, by Allah, was Aba’l Qasim the Trustworthy.

2 - حدثنا أحمد بن الحسن القطان، قال: حدثنا أبو العباس أحمد بن يحيى بن زكريا، قال: حدثنا محمد بن إسماعيل، قال: حدثنا عبد الله بن محمد، قال: حدثنا أبي، عن سعيد بن مسلم مولى لبني مخزوم، عن سعيد بن أبي صالح، عن أبيه، عن ابن عباس، قال: سمعت أبي العباس يحدث، قال: ولد لابي عبد المطلب عبد الله، فرأينا في وجهه نورا يزهر (3) كنور الشمس، فقال أبي: إن لهذا الغلام شأنا عظيما. قال: فرأيت في منامي أنه خرج من منخره طائر أبيض، فطار فبلغ المشرق والمغرب، ثم رجع راجعا حتى سقط على بيت الكعبة، فسجدت له قريش كلها، فبينما الناس يتأملونه إذ صار نورا بين السماء والارض، وامتد حتى بلغ المشرق والمغرب. فلما انتبهت سألت كاهنة بني مخزوم فقالت: يا عباس، لئن صدقت رؤياك ليخرجن من  صلبه ولد يصير أهل المشرق والمغرب تبعا له. قال أبي: فهمني أمر عبد الله إلى أن تزوج بآمنة، وكانت من أجمل نساء قريش، وأتمها خلقا، فلما مات عبد الله وولدت آمنة رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله) أتيته، فرأيت النور بين عينيه يزهر، فحملته وتفرست في وجهه، فوجدت منه ريح المسك، وصرت كأني قطعة مسك من شدة ريحي، فحدثتني آمنة وقالت لي: إنه لما أخذني الطلق واشتد بي الامر، سمعت جلبة (1) وكلاما لا يشبه كلام الآدميين، ورأيت علما من سندس على قضيب من ياقوت قد ضرب بين السماء والارض، ورأيت نورا يسطع من رأسه حتى بلغ السماء، ورأيت قصور الشامات كأنها شعلة نار نورا، ورأيت حولي من القطاة أمرا عظيما، قد نشرت أجنحتها حولي، ورأيت شعيرة الاسدية قد مرت وهي تقول: آمنة، ما لقيت الكهان والاصنام من ولدك! ورأيت رجلا شابا من أتم الناس طولا، وأشدهم بياضا، وأحسنهم ثيابا، ما ظننته إلا عبد المطلب، قد دنا مني فأخذ المولود، فتفل في فيه، ومعه طست من ذهب مضروب بالزمرد، ومشط من ذهب، فشق بطنه شقا، ثم أخرج قلبه فشقه، فأخرج منه نكتة سوداء فرمى بها، ثم أخرج صرة من حريرة خضراء ففتحها، فإذا فيها كالذريرة (2) البيضاء فحشاه، ثم رده إلى ما كان، ومسح على بطنه، واستنطقه فنطق، فلم أفهم ما قال، إلا أنه قال: في أمان الله وحفظه وكلاءته، قد حشوت قلبك إيمانا وعلما وحلما ويقينا وعقلا وشجاعة، أنت خير البشر، طوبى لمن اتبعك، وويل لمن تخلف عنك. ثم أخرج صرة أخرى من حريرة بيضاء ففتحها فإذا فيها خاتم، فضرب على كتفيه، ثم قال: أمرني ربي أن أنفخ فيك من روح القدس. فنفخ فيه، وألبسه قميصا، وقال: هذا أمانك من آفات الدنيا. فهذا ما رأيت - يا عباس - بعيني. قال العباس: وأنا يومئذ أقرأ، فكشفت عن ثوبه، فإذا خاتم النبوة بين كتفيه، فلم  أزل أكتم شأنه، وأنسيت الحديث فلم أذكره إلى يوم إسلامي حتى ذكرني رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله) (1).

Ahmad b. al-Hasan b. al-Qattan narrated to us. He said: Abu’l `Abbas Ahmad b. Yahya b. Zakariyya narrated to us. He said: Muhammad b. Isma`il narrated to us. He said: `Abdullah b. Muhammad narrated to us. He said: My father narrated to us from Sa`id b. Muslim the servant of Bani Makhzum from Sa`id b. Abi Salih from his father from Ibn `Abbas. He said: I heard my father al-`Abbas narrate, saying: When `Abdullah was born to `Abd al-Muttalib, we saw an illuminating light in his face, like the light of the Sun. So, my father said: This boy will have an exalted matter. He said: So, I saw in my dream that a white bird emerged from his nose, flew, and reached the East and the West. Then, it returned and perched on the roof of the Ka`ba. Then, all the people of Quraysh prostrated towards it and began to gaze at it in amazement. There was a light between heaven and Earth, and it stretched until it reached the East and the West. When I regained consciousness, I asked a soothsayer from Bani Makhzum [about it]. She said: O `Abbas! If you are telling the truth, then a child from his loins will be followed by the people of the East and the West.  My father said: So, I was worried about the matter of `Abdullah until he married Amina. She was of the most beautiful women of Quraysh, and the most perfect of them in character. When `Abdullah died and Amina gave birth to the Messenger of Allah (s), I went to him. I saw a light illuminating from his forehead. I held him and studied his facial features. I found the fragrance of musk coming from him. It was as though I was a bag of musk due to the intensity of the fragrance left on me. Amina said to me: When I went into labour, I heard noises and words that did not resemble the words of humans. I saw a brocade flag on a ruby pole that filled that which was between heaven and Earth. I saw a light dazzling from his head that reached the sky. It was as though I saw the palaces of the Levant engulfed in light. I saw great birds spreading their wings around me. I saw a houri passing by and saying: “Amina! You did not find oracles nor idols with your son!” I saw a young man who was the tallest of the people, the fairest of them, and the most beautiful of them in clothing. I thought it was `Abd al-Muttalib. He approached me and held the newborn. He suckled him with his tongue. He had a tray of gold with him which was studded with emeralds and a comb of gold. He cut open his belly and took out his heart. Then, he cut it open and took out a dark spot and threw it out. Then, he took a green silk bag and opened it. He took what looked like a white powder from it. Then, he filled up the heart with this powder and placed the heart back into its place. Then he stroked the child’s stomach and spoke to him. The infant spoke [back]. I did not understand anything except that he said: “[Farewell] in the safety, protection, and security of Allah. I have filled your heart with faith, knowledge, forbearance, certainty, intellect, and valour. You are the best of humans. Blessed are those who follow you, and woe to those who turn away from you.” Then, he took out another bag which was made of white brocade. From that, he removed a seal and imprinted it between his shoulders. Then, he said: “My Lord has commanded me to breathe from the Holy Spirit into you.” So, he breathed into him, and gowned him in a shirt, and said: “This is your protection from the troubles of this world.” This is what I saw, `Abbas, with my eyes. So, al-`Abbas said: That day, I was reading. I took off his robe, and I saw the Seal of Prophecy between his shoulders. I kept his matter a secret. I forgot this and did not remember it until the day I accepted Islam and the Messenger of Allah (s) reminded me of it.

3 - حدثنا أبي (رحمه الله)، قال: حدثنا سعد بن عبد الله، عن عبد الله بن محمد بن عيسى، عن أبيه، عن ابن المغيرة، عن السكوني، عن جعفر بن محمد، عن أبيه (عليه السلام)، قال: اغتنموا الدعاء عند خمس: عند قراءة القرآن، وعند الاذان، وعند نزول الغيث، وعند التقاء الصفين للشهادة، وعند دعوة المظلوم ليس لها حجاب دون العرش (2).

My father (rh) narrated to us. He said: Sa`d b. `Abdullah narrated to us from `Abdullah b. Muhammad b. `Isa from his father from Ibn al-Mughira from al-Sukuni from Ja`far b. Muhammad from his father (as). He said: Supplicate during five [situations]: (1) when reciting the Quran, (2) during the call to prayer, (3) when it rains, (4) when two rows meet [in battle] for martyrdom, and (5) when the oppressed calls out, for there is no barrier between his call and the Throne.

4 - حدثنا محمد بن الحسن بن أحمد بن الوليد (رضي الله عنه) قال: حدثنا محمد بن الحسن الصفار، عن محمد بن الحسين بن أبي الخطاب، عن علي بن النعمان، عن عبد الله بن طلحة النهدي، عن جعفر بن محمد، عن أبيه، عن آبائه (عليهم السلام)، قال: قال رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله)، قال: قال رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله): أربعة لا ترد لهم دعوة، وتفتح لها أبواب السماء وتصير إلى العرش: دعاء الوالد لولده، والمظلوم على من ظلمه، والمعتمر حتى يرجع، والصائم حتى يفطر (3).

Muhammad b. al-Hasan b. Ahmad b. al-Walid (ra) narrated to us. He said: Muhammad b. al-Hasan al-Saffar narrated to us from Muhammad b. al-Husayn b. Abi’l Khattab from `Ali b. al-Nu`man from `Abdullah b. Talha al-Nahdi from Ja`far b. Muhammad from his father from his forefathers (as). He said: The Messenger of Allah (s) said: The gates of heaven open up to the supplications of four, which go straight to the Throne: (1) the supplication of the parent for his child, (2) that of the oppressed against his oppressor, (3) that of the pilgrim until he returns, and (4) that of the fasting person until he breaks his fast.

5 - حدثنا أبي (رحمه الله)، قال: حدثنا سعد بن عبد الله، عن الحسن بن موسى الخشاب، عن غياث بن كلوب، عن إسحاق بن عمار، عن الصادق جعفر بن محمد، عن أبيه، عن آبائه (عليهم السلام): أن عليا (عليه السلام): كان يقول: ما من أحد ابتلي، وإن عظمت بلواه، بأحق بالدعاء من المعافى الذي لا يأمن البلاء (4).

My father (rh) narrated to us. He said: Sa`d b. `Abdullah narrated to us from al-Hasan b. Musa al-Khashab from Ghiyath b. Kalub from Ishaq b. `Ammar from al-Sadiq Ja`far b. Muhammad from his father from his forefathers (as). He said: `Ali (as) would say: There is not one who is tested – even if his test is severe – who is more rightful to supplication than one who is well, who is not safe from being tested [at any point].

6 - حدثنا محمد بن موسى بن المتوكل (رحمه الله)، قال: حدثنا علي بن الحسين السعد آبادي، عن أحمد بن أبي عبد الله البرقي، عن أبيه، عن وهب بن وهب، عن الصادق جعفر بن محمد، عن أبيه، عن آبائه (عليهم السلام)، عن علي (عليه السلام)، قال:  كان رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله إذا رأى الفاكهة الجديدة قبلها ووضعها على عينيه وفمه، ثم قال: اللهم كما أريتنا أولها في عافية فأرنا آخرها في عافية (1).

Muhammad b. Musa b. al-Mutawakkil (rh) narrated to us. He said: `Ali b. al-Husayn al-Sa`d Abadi narrated to us from Ahmad b. Abi `Abdillah al-Barqi from his father from Wahb b. Wahb from al-Sadiq Ja`far b. Muhammad from his father from his forefathers (as) from `Ali (as). He said: The Messenger of Allah (s) would say when he would see a fresh fruit and put it to his eyes and his lips: O Allah! Just as You allowed us to see its beginning in wellness, let us see its ending in wellness as well.

7 - حدثنا حمزة بن محمد العلوي (رحمه الله)، قال: أخبرني علي بن إبراهيم بن هاشم، عن أبيه، عن محمد بن أبي عمير، عن مالك الجهني، قال: ناولت أبا عبد الله الصادق (عليه السلام) شيئا من الرياحين، فأخذه فشمه ووضعه على عينيه، ثم قال: من تناول ريحانة فشمها ووضعها على عينيه ثم قال: اللهم صل على محمد وآل محمد، لم تقع على الارض حتى يغفر له (2).

...ثم قال

Hamza b. Muhammad al-`Alawi (rh) narrated to us. He said: `Ali b. Ibrahim b. Hashim informed me from my father from Muhammad b. Abi `Umayr from Malik al-Juhni. He said: I gave Aba `Abdillah al-Sadiq (as) a fragrance. So, he took it, smelled it, put it to his eyes, and said: Whoever takes a fragrance, smells it, puts it to his eyes, and says: “May Allah bless Muhammad and the Family of Muhammad (allahumma salli `ala muhammadan wa aali Muhammad)”, he will not leave the Earth except that he will be forgiven.

8 - حدثنا الحسين بن إبراهيم بن ناتانه (رحمه الله)، قال: حدثنا علي بن إبراهيم، عن أبيه، عن الحسين بن يزيد النوفلي، عن إسماعيل بن مسلم السكوني، عن الصادق جعفر بن محمد، عن أبيه، عن آبائه، عن علي (عليهم السلام)، قال: علمني رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله) إذا لبست ثوبا جديدا أن أقول: الحمد لله الذي كساني من الرياش ما أتجمل به في الناس، اللهم اجعلها ثياب بركة أسعى فيها بمرضاتك، وأعمر فيها مساجدك، فإنه من فعل ذلك لم يتقمصه (3) حتى يغفر له (4).

Al-Husayn b. Ibrahim Natana (rh) narrated to us. He said: `Ali b. Ibrahim narrated to us from his father from al-Husayn b. Yazid al-Nawfali from Isma`il b. Muslim al-Sukuni from al-Sadiq Ja`far b. Muhammad from his father from his forefathers from `Ali (as). He said: The Messenger of Allah (s) taught me that whenever I put on a new robe, I should say: “Praise be to Allah who gowned me in clothing that has beautified me among the people. O Allah! Make it a blessed garment with which I could strive for Your pleasure and build Your mosques (alhamdulillahil lathi kasani min al-riyashi ma ajmala bihi fi’n nas. Allahumma ‘ja`lha thiyaban barakatan as`a feeha bi mardatik wa a`mar fiha masajidik).” Whoever does that will not wear it except that he will be forgiven.

9 - حدثنا أبي (رحمه الله)، قال: حدثنا سعد بن عبد الله، عن محمد بن عيسى، عن عباس مولى الرضا، عن أبي الحسن الرضا، عن أبيه (عليهما السلام)، قال: كان أبو عبد الله الصادق (عليه السلام) يقول: من قال حين يسمع أذان الصبع: اللهم إني أسألك بإقبال نهارك، وإدبار ليلك، وحضور صلاتك (5)، وأصوات دعاتك (6)، أن تتوب علي، إنك أنت التواب الرحيم، ومن قال مثل ذلك إذا سمع أذان المغرب ثم مات من يومه،  أو من ليلته تلك، كان تائبا (1).

يقول

My father (rh) narrated to us. He said: Sa`d b. `Abdullah narrated to us from Muhamad b. `Isa from `Abbas the servant of al-Rida from Abi’l Hasna al-Rida from his father (as). He said: Abu `Abdillah al-Sadiq (as) would say: Whoever says, when he hears the call to the morning prayer: “O Allah! I ask You by the commencement of Your day, the maintenance of Your night, the attendance of those praying to You, and the voices of those supplicating to You, to forgive me. Surely, You are the Forgiving, the Merciful (allahumma inni as’aluka bi iqbali naharik, wa idbari laylatik, wa huduri salatik, wa aswati du`a’ik an tatub `alay, innaka anta ‘tawab al-rahim)” – whoever says that [when he hears the call to the morning prayer or] when he hears the call to Maghrib prayer and dies on that day or on that night, he will be forgiven.

10 - حدثني محمد بن موسى بن المتوكل (رحمه الله)، قال: حدثني علي ابن ابراهيم، عن محمد بن عيسى، عن محمد بن أبي عمير، عن عبد الرحمن السراج، يرفعه إلى أبي عبد الله (عليه السلام)، قال: من قطع ثوبا جديدا وقرأ (إنا أنزلناه في ليلة القدر) ستا وثلاثين مرة، فإذا بلغ (تنزل الملائكة) (2) أخرج شيئا من الماء ورش بعضه على الثوب رشا خفيفا، ثم صلى فيه ركعتين، ودعا ربه، وقال في دعائه: الحمد لله الذي رزقني مما أتجمل به في الناس، وأواري به عورتي، وأصلي فيه لربي، وحمد الله (3)، لم يزل يأكل في سعة حتى يبلى ذلك الثوب (4).

Muhammad b. Musa b. al-Mutawakkil (rh) narrated to me. He said: `Ali b. Ibrahim narrated to me from Muhammad b. `Isa from Muhammad b. Abi `Umayr from `Abd al-Rahman al-Sarraj, who raised it to Abi `Abdillah (as). He said: Whoever cuts out a new robe [for himself] and recites inna anzalnahu fi laylatil qadr thirty-six times; when he reaches tanazzul al-mala’ikatu, something of water gently sprinkles on the robe. Then, when he prays two units in it, supplicates to his Lord, and says in his supplication: “Praise be to Allah who granted me that which beautifies me among the people, covers my private, and allows me to pray to pray to my Lord therein (alhamdulillahil lathi razaqani mimma atajammal bihi fi ‘nas, wa awari bihi `awrati, wa usalli fihi li rabbi)”, and praises Allah, he will continue to be given food until that robe wears out.

11 - حدثنا أبي (رحمه الله)، قال: حدثني عبد الله بن جعفر، عن هارون بن مسلم، عن مسعدة بن صدقة، عن جعفر بن محمد، عن آبائه (عليهم السلام): أن النبي (صلى الله عليه وآله) قال: من رأى يهوديا أو نصرانيا أو مجوسيا أو أحدا على غير ملة الاسلام، فقال: الحمد لله الذي فضلني عليك بالاسلام دينا، وبالقرآن كتابا، وبمحمد نبيا، وبعلي إماما، وبالمؤمنين إخوانا، وبالكعبة قبلة، لم يجمع الله بينه وبينه في النار أبدا (5).

My father (rh) narrated to us. He said: `Abdullah b. Ja`far narrated to me from Harun b. Muslim from Mas`ada b. Sadaqa from Ja`far b. Muhammad from his forefathers (as). The Prophet (s) said: Whoever sees a Jew, Christian, Zoroastrian, or anyone who is not upon the way of Islam and says: “Praise be to Allah who preferred me over you with Islam as a religion, the Quran as a Book, Muhammad as a prophet, `Ali as an Imam, the believers as brethren, and the Ka`ba as a qibla (alhamdulillahil lathi fadalani `alayka bil islami dinan wa bil qur’ani kitaban wa bi muhammadan nabiyyan wa bi `aliyyin imaman wa bil mu’minina ikhwanan wa bil ka`bati qiblata)”, then Allah will never gather him with him in the Fire.

12 - حدثنا أبي (رحمه الله)، قال: حدثنا علي بن إبراهيم، عن أبيه، عن صفوان بن يحيى، عن العيص بن القاسم، عن أبي عبد الله الصادق (عليه السلام)، قال: من نظر إلى ذي عاهة، أو من قد مثل به، أو صاحب بلاء، فليقل سرا في نفسه من غير أن يسمعه. الحمد لله الذي عافاني مما ابتلاك به، ولو شاء لفعل بي ذلك، ثلاث مرات،  فإنه لا يصيبه ذلك البلاء ابدا (1).

My father (rh) narrated to us. He said: `Ali b. Ibrahim narrated to us from his father from Safwan b. Yahya from al-`Is b. al-Qasim from Abi `Abdillah al-Sadiq (as). He said: Whoever sees one with a disability, or one similar to that, or a suffering person, then he should say privately to himself in a way that the person would not hear: “Praise be to Allah who granted me wellness from what he is suffering from. If He willed, He would have afflicted me with this (alhamdulillahil lathi `afani mimma abtalak bih, wa law sha’a lafa`al bi thalik)” three times, then he will never be afflicted with that.

13 - حدثنا الحسين بن أحمد بن إدريس (رحمه الله)، قال: حدثنا أبي، عن أحمد بن أبي عبد الله البرقي، عن محمد بن عيسى، عن عبيد الله بن عبد الله الدهقان، عن درست بن أبي منصور الواسطي، عن إبراهيم بن عبد الحميد، عن أبي الحسن موسى بن جعفر، عن آبائه (عليهم السلام)، قال: دخل رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله) المسجد، فإذا جماعة قد أطافوا برجل، فقال: ما هذا؟ فقالوا: علامة. قال: وما العلامة؟ قالوا: أعلم الناس بأنساب العرب ووقائعها، وأيام الجاهلية، وبالاشعار والعربية. فقال النبي (صلى الله عليه وآله): ذاك علم لا يضر من جهله ولا ينفع من علمه (2).

المسجد...فقال

Al-Husayn b. Ahmad b. Idris (rh) narrated to us. He said: My father narrated to us from Ahmad b. Abi `Abdillah al-Barqi from Muhammad b. `Isa from `Ubaydullah b. `Abdullah al-Dahqan from Darast b. Abi Mansur al-Wasiti from Ibrahim b. `Abd al-Humayd from Abi’l Hasan Musa b. Ja`far from his forefathers (as). He said: The Messenger of Allah (s) entered the mosque and found a group [sitting] around a man. So, he said: What is this? So, they said: An intellectual (`allamah). He said: What is an intellectual? They said: He is the most knowledgeable of the people in the lineages and anecdotes of the Arabs, the days of Jahiliyya, the poems, and Arabic (or rhetoric). So, the Prophet (s) said: That is a knowledge whose ignorance does not harm and whose familiarity does not benefit.

14 - حدثنا محمد بن موسى بن المتوكل (رحمه الله)، قال: حدثني علي بن الحسين السعد آبادي، عن أحمد بن أبي عبد الله البرقي، عن أبيه، عن محمد بن سنان، عن المفضل بن عمر، عن الصادق جعفر بن محمد (عليه السلام)، قال: بني الاسلام على خمس دعائم: على الصلاة، والزكاة، والصوم، والحج، وولاية أمير المؤمنين والائمة من ولده (صلوات الله عليهم) (3).

Muhammad b. Musa al-Mutawakkil (rh) narrated to us. He said: `Ali b. al-Husayn Sa`d Abadi narrated to me from Ahmad b. Abi `Abdillah al-Barqi from his father from Muhammad b. Sinan from al-Mufaddal b. `Umar from al-Sadiq Ja`far b. Muhammad (as). He said: Islam was built on five pillars: prayer, zakat, fasting, Hajj, and the wilaya of Amir al-Mu’minin and the Imams from his descendants (s).

15 - حدثنا حمزة بن محمد بن أحمد بن جعفر بن محمد بن زيد بن علي بن الحسين بن علي بن أبي طالب (عليهم السلام)، قال: أخبرني أبو الحسن علي بن محمد البزاز، قال: حدثنا أبو أحمد داود بن سليمان الفراء، قال: حدثني علي بن موسى الرضا، عن أبيه موسى بن جعفر، قال: حدثني أبي جعفر بن محمد الصادق، قال: حدثني أبي محمد بن علي الباقر، قال: حدثني أبي علي بن الحسين زين العابدين، قال: حدثني أبي الحسين بن علي، قال: حدثني أبي أمير المؤمنين (عليهم السلام)، قال: قال رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله): الايمان إقرار باللسان، ومعرفة  بالقلب، وعمل بالاركان. قال حمزة بن محمد: وسمعت عبد الرحمن بن أبي حاتم يقول: سمعت أبي يقول: وقد روى هذا الحديث، عن أبي الصلت الهروي عبد السلام بن صالح، عن علي بن موسى الرضا (عليه السلام) باسناد مثله، قال أبو حاتم: لو قرئ هذا الاسناد على مجنون لبرئ (1).

Hamza b. Muhammad b. Ahmad b. Ja`far b. Muhammad b. Zayd b. `Ali b. al-Husayn b. `Ali b. Abi Talib (as) narrated to us. He said: Abu’l Hasan `Ali b. Muhammad al-Bazzaz informed me. He said: Abu Ahmad Dawud b. Sulayman al-Farra’ narrated to us. He said: `Ali b. Musa al-Rida narrated to me from his father Musa b. Ja`far. He said: My father Ja`far b. Muhammad al-Sadiq narrated to me. He said: My father Muhammad b. `Ali al-Baqir narrated to me. He said: My father `Ali b. al-Husayn Zayn al-`Abidin narrated to me. He said: My father al-Husayn b. `Ali narrated to me. He said: My father Amir al-Mu’minin (as) narrated to me. He said: The Messenger of Allah (s) said: Faith is declaration with the tongue, recognition with the heart, and implementation with the limbs. Hamza b. Muhammad said: I heard `Abd al-Rahman b. Abi Hatim say: I heard my father say: This hadith was narrated by Abi’l Salt al-Harawi (as) from `Ali b. Musa al-Rida (as) with a similar isnad. Abu Hatim said: If this isnad were to be recited over the insane, he would have been cured.

16 - حدثنا أحمد بن محمد بن يحيى العطار (رحمه الله)، قال: حدثنا سعد ابن عبد الله، عن يعقوب بن يزيد، عن زياد بن مروان القندي، عن علي بن معبد، عن عبد الله بن القاسم، عن مبارك بن عبد الرحمن، عن أبي عبد الله الصادق، عن آبائه (عليهم السلام)، قال: قال رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله): الاسلام عريان، فلباسه الحياء، وزينته الوفاء، ومروءته العمل الصالح، وعماده الورع، ولكل شئ أساس وأساس الاسلام حبنا أهل البيت (2).

Ahmad b. Muhammad b. Yahya al-`Attar (rh) narrated to us. He said: Sa`d b. `Abdillah narrated to us from Ya`qub b. Yazid from Ziyad b. Marwan al-Qindi from `Ali b. Mu`abbad from `Abdullah b. al-Qasim from Mubarak b. `Abd al-Rahman from Abi `Abdillah al-Sadiq (as) from his forefathers (as). He said: The Messenger of Allah (s) said: Islam is bare. Its dress is modesty, its ornament is dignity, its good deed is chivalry, and its support is piety. Everything has a foundation, and the foundation of Islam is loving us, the Ahl al-Bayt.

17 - حدثنا محمد بن علي ماجيلويه (رحمه الله)، قال: حدثني محمد بن يحيى العطار، عن محمد بن أحمد بن يحيى بن عمران الاشعري، عن محمد بن الحسين بن أبي الخطاب، عن النضر بن شعيب، عن خالد بن ماد القلانسي، عن القندي، عن جابر بن يزيد الجعفي، عن أبي جعفر، عن آبائه (عليهم السلام) قال: جاء رجل إلى النبي (صلى الله عليه وآله) فقال: يا رسول الله، أكل من قال لا إله إلا الله، مؤمن؟ قال: إن عداوتنا تلحق باليهود والنصارى، إنكم لا تدخلون الجنة حتى تحبوني، وكذب من زعم أنه يحبني ويبغض هذا، يعني عليا (عليه السلام) (3).

فقال...قال

Muhammad b. `Ali Majiluwayh (rh) narrated to us. He said: Muhammad b. Yahya al-`Attar narrated to me from Muhammad b. Ahmad b. Yahya b. `Imran al-Ash`ari from Muhammad b. al-Husayn b. Abi’l Khattab from al-Nadr b. Shu`ayb from Khalid b. Mad al-Qalanisi from al-Qindi from Jabir b. Yazid al-Ju`fi from Abi Ja`far from his forefathers (as). He said: A man came to the Prophet (s) and said: O Messenger of Allah! Are all who say “there is no god but Allah” believers? He said: Enmity towards us follows the Jews and the Christians. Surely, you will not enter Paradise until you love me. He who alleges that he loves me while hating this one – meaning `Ali (as) – has lied.

18 - حدثنا علي بن أحمد بن عبد الله بن أحمد بن أبي عبد الله البرقي، عن أبيه، عن جده أحمد بن أبي عبد الله، عن أبيه محمد بن خالد، عن غياث بن  إبراهيم، عن ثابت بن دينار، عن سعد بن طريف، عن سعيد بن جبير، عن ابن عباس، قال: قال رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله) لعلي بن أبي طالب (عليه السلام): يا علي، أنا مدينة الحكمة، وأنت بابها، ولن تؤتى المدينة إلا من قبل الباب، وكذب من زعم أنه يحبني ويبغضك، لانك مني وأنا منك لحمك من لحمي، ودمك من دمي، وروحك من روحي، وسريرتك سريرتي، وعلانيتك علانيتي، وأنت إمام امتي وخليفتي عليها بعدي، سعد من أطاعك، وشقي من عصاك، وربح من تولاك، وخسر من عاداك، وفاز من لزمك، وهلك من فارقك، مثلك ومثل الائمة من ولدك بعدي مثل سفينة نوح، من ركبها نجا، ومن تخلف عنها غرق، ومثلكم مثل النجوم، كلما غاب نجم طلع نجم إلى يوم القيامة (1).

`Ali b. Ahmad b. `Abdullah b. Ahmad b. Abi `Abdillah al-Barqi narrated to us from his father from his grandfather Ahmad b. Abi `Abdillah from his father Muhammad b. Khalid from Ghiyath b. Ibrahim from Thabit b. Dinar from Sa`d b. Turayf from Sa`id b. Jubayr from Ibn `Abbas. He said: The Messenger of Allah (s) said to `Ali b. Abi Talib (as): O `Ali! I am the City of Wisdom and you are its Gate. None can enter the City except through its Gate. One who alleges that he loves me while hating you has lied, for you are from me and I am from you. Your flesh is from my flesh, your blood is from my blood, and your spirit is from my spirit. Your secret is my secret, and your public is my public. You are the Imam of my Nation and my vicegerent (khalifati) over it after me. One who obeys you is happy, and one who disobeys you is wretched. One who aligns with you has triumphed, and one who opposes you has lost. One who sticks to you has won, and one who abandons you is destroyed. Your example and the example of the Imams from your descendants is like that of the Ark of Nuh: whoever boards it is saved, and whoever abandons it drowns. Your example is like that of the stars: whenever one star disappears, another star rises, until the Day of Resurrection.
