1 حَدَّثَنِي جَعْفَرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْمُوسَوِيُّ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ [عَبْدِ اللَّهِ] بْنِ نَهِيكٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ أَبِي أَيُّوبَ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ (ع) قَالَ حَقٌّ عَلَى الْغَنِيِّ أَنْ يَأْتِيَ قَبْرَ الْحُسَيْنِ (ع) فِي السَّنَةِ مَرَّتَيْنِ وَ حَقٌّ عَلَى الْفَقِيرِ أَنْ يَأْتِيَهُ فِي السَّنَةِ مَرَّةً

1. Ja’far ibn Muĥammad ibn Ibrāhǐm ibn ‘Abdillāh Al-Mūsawi narrated to me from ‘Ubaydillāh ibn Nahǐk, from Muĥammad ibn Abǐ ‘Umayr, from Abǐ Ayyūb (Ibrāhǐm ibn ‘Uthmān), who said: Abū ‘Abdillāh (Imam Šādiq (a.s.)) said: It is an obligation on those who are wealthy to go to (the Ziyārah of) the grave of Ĥusain (a.s.) twice a year and on those who are poor to go once a year.

2 حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي (رحمه الله) عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْحَكَمِ عَنْ عَامِرِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ وَ سَعِيدٍ الْأَعْرَجِ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ (ع) قَالَ ائْتُوا قَبْرَ الْحُسَيْنِ (ع) فِي كُلِّ سَنَةٍ مَرَّةً

2. My father narrated to me from Sa’d ibn ‘Abdillāh, from Aĥmad ibn Muĥammad ibn ‘Isā, from ‘Ali ibn Ĥakam, from ‘Āmir ibn ‘Umayr, and from Sa’ǐd Al-A’raj, who said: Abū ‘Abdillāh (Imam Šādiq (a.s.)) said: Go to (the Ziyārah of) the grave of Ĥusain (a.s.) once a year.

3 حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْحُسَيْنِ عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ بَشِيرٍ عَنْ مُسْلِمٍ عَنْ عَامِرِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ وَ سَعِيدٍ الْأَعْرَجِ جَمِيعاً عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ (ع) قَالَ ائْتُوا قَبْرَ الْحُسَيْنِ (ع) فِي كُلِّ سَنَةٍ مَرَّةً

3. Abul ‘Abbās narrated to me from Muĥammad ibn Ĥusain, from Ja’far ibn Bashǐr, from Muslim, from ‘Āmir ibn ‘Umayr, and from Sa’ǐd Al-A’raj, who said: Abū ‘Abdillāh (Imam Šādiq (a.s.)) said: Go to (the Ziyārah of) the grave of Ĥusain (a.s.) once a year.

4. Ja’far ibn Muĥammad ibn ‘Abdillāh Al-Mūsawi narrated to me from ‘Abdillāh ibn Nahǐk, from Ibn Abǐ ‘Umayr, from Ĥammād, from Al-Ĥalabi, who said: I asked Abā ‘Abdillāh (Imam Šādiq (a.s.)) about the Ziyārah of the grave of Ĥusain (a.s.). Imam (a.s.) said, “(Go) once a year because I do not want you to be identified.”

5 حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي (رحمه الله) عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ يَعْقُوبَ بْنِ يَزِيدَ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ بَعْضِ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي نَابٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ (ع) قَالَ حَقٌّ عَلَى الْفَقِيرِ أَنْ يَأْتِيَ قَبْرَ الْحُسَيْنِ (ع) فِي السَّنَةِ مَرَّةً وَ حَقٌّ عَلَى الْغَنِيِّ أَنْ يَأْتِيَهُ فِي السَّنَةِ مَرَّتَيْنِ

5. My father narrated to me from Sa’d ibn ‘Abdillāh, from Ya’qūb ibn Yazǐd, from Ibn Abǐ ‘Umayr, from some of our companions, from Ibn Abǐ Nāb, who said: Abū ‘Abdillāh (Imam Šādiq (a.s.)) said: It is an obligation on those who are poor to go to (the Ziyārah of) the grave of Ĥusain (a.s.) once a year and on those who are wealthy to go twice a year.

6 حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي وَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ عَنِ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ أَبَانٍ عَنِ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ حَمَّادِ بْنِ عُثْمَانَ عَنِ الْحَلَبِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ (ع) فِي زِيَارَةِ قَبْرِ الْحُسَيْنِ (ع) قَالَ فِي السَّنَةِ مَرَّةً إِنِّي أَكْرَهُ الشُّهْرَةَ

6. My father and Muĥammad ibn Ĥasan narrated to me from Ĥusain ibn Ĥasan ibn Abān, from Ĥusain ibn Sa’ǐd, from Ibn Abǐ ‘Umayr, from Ĥammād ibn ‘Uthmān, from Al-Ĥalabi, who said: I asked Abā ‘Abdillāh (Imam Šādiq (a.s.)) about the Ziyārah of the grave of Ĥusain (a.s.). Imam (a.s.) said, “(Go) once a year because I do not want you to be identified.”

7 حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ عَلِيِّ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ عَنِ الْعَبَّاسِ بْنِ عَامِرٍ قَالَ قَالَ عَلِيُّ بْنُ أَبِي حَمْزَةَ عَنْ أَبِي الْحَسَنِ (ع) قَالَ لَا تَجْفُوهُ يَأْتِيهِ الْمُوسِرُ فِي كُلِّ أَرْبَعَةِ أَشْهُرٍ وَ الْمُعْسِرُ لا يُكَلِّفُ اللّهُ نَفْساً إِلّا وُسْعَها قَالَ الْعَبَّاسُ لَا أَدْرِي قَالَ هَذَا لِعَلِيٍّ أَوْ لِأَبِي نَابٍ

7. My father narrated to me from Sa’d ibn ‘Abdillāh, from Ĥasan ibn ‘Ali ibn ‘Abdillāh ibn Mughǐrah, from ‘Abbās ibn ‘Āmir, from ‘Ali ibn Abǐ Ĥamzah, who said: Abul Ĥasan (Imam Kāżim (a.s.)) said: Do not be negligent toward him (Ĥusain (a.s.)). Those who are wealthy should go to him once every four months and as for the insolvents, “Allāh does not impose on any soul a duty but to the extent of its ability” (2:286). ‘Abbās (ibn ‘Āmir) added: I do not remember if the Imam (a.s.) said this statement to ‘Ali (ibn Abǐ Ĥamzah) or to Abǐ Nāb.

8 حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْحَسَنِ الصَّفَّارِ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنِ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ حَمَّادِ بْنِ عُثْمَانَ عَنِ الْحَلَبِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ (ع) قَالَ سَأَلْتُهُ عَنْ زِيَارَةِ الْحُسَيْنِ (ع) قَالَ فِي السَّنَةِ مَرَّةً إِنِّي أَخَافُ الشُّهْرَةَ

8. Muĥammad ibn Ĥasan narrated to me from Muĥammad ibn Ĥasan Al-Šaffār, from Aĥmad ibn Muĥammad ibn ‘Isā, from Ĥusain ibn Sa’ǐd, from Ibn Abǐ ‘Umayr, from Ĥammād ibn ‘Uthmān, from Al-Ĥalabi, who said: I asked Abā ‘Abdillāh (Imam Šādiq (a.s.)) about the Ziyārah of Ĥusain (a.s.). Imam (a.s.) said, “(Go) once a year because I fear that you will be identified.”

9 حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ عَنِ الزَّيَّاتِ عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ بَشِيرٍ عَنْ حَمَّادٍ عَنِ ابْنِ مُسْلِمٍ عَنْ عَامِرِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ وَ سَعِيدٍ الْأَعْرَجِ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ (ع) قَالَ ائْتُوا قَبْرَ الْحُسَيْنِ (ع) فِي كُلِّ سَنَةٍ مَرَّةً

9. Abul ‘Abbās narrated to me from Al-Zayyāt, from Ja’far ibn Bashǐr, from Ĥammād, from Ibn Muslim, from ‘Āmir ibn ‘Umayr, and from Sa’ǐd Al-A’raj, who said: Abū ‘Abdillāh (Imam Šādiq (a.s.)) said: Go to (the Ziyārah of) the grave of Ĥusain (a.s.) once a year.

10 حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي (رحمه الله) عَنْ سَعْدٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ صَفْوَانَ بْنِ يَحْيَى عَنِ الْعِيصِ بْنِ الْقَاسِمِ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ (ع) هَلْ لِزِيَارَةِ الْقَبْرِ صَلَاةٌ مَفْرُوضَةٌ قَالَ لَيْسَ لَهُ صَلَاةٌ مَفْرُوضَةٌ [شَيْءٌ مَفْرُوضٌ] قَالَ وَ سَأَلْتُهُ فِي كَمْ يَوْمٍ يُزَارُ قَالَ مَا شِئْتَ

10. My father narrated to me from Sa’d, from ‘Ali ibn Ismā’ǐl ibn ‘Isā, from Šafwān ibn Yaĥyā, from ‘Ǐš ibn Qāsim, who said: I asked Abā ‘Abdillāh (Imam Šādiq (a.s.)), “Is there an obligatory prayer which should be established after the Ziyārah of the Grave (of Ĥusain (a.s.))?” Imam (a.s.) replied, “There are no obligatory prayers for Ziyārah.” I asked, “How frequently should I go to his Ziyārah?” Imam (a.s.) replied, “As frequently as you wish.”

11 حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي (رحمه الله) عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ جَعْفَرٍ الْحِمْيَرِيِّ بِإِسْنَادِهِ رَفَعَهُ إِلَى عَلِيِّ بْنِ مَيْمُونٍ الصَّائِغِ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ (ع) قَالَ يَا عَلِيُّ بَلَغَنِي أَنَّ قَوْماً مِنْ شِيعَتِنَا يَمُرُّ بِأَحَدِهِمُ السَّنَةُ وَ السَّنَتَانِ لَا يَزُورُونَ الْحُسَيْنَ قُلْتُ جُعِلْتُ فِدَاكَ إِنِّي أَعْرِفُ أُنَاساً كَثِيرَةً بِهَذِهِ الصِّفَةِ قَالَ أَمَا وَ اللَّهِ لِحَظِّهِمْ أَخْطَئُوا وَ عَنْ ثَوَابِ اللَّهِ زَاغُوا وَ عَنْ جِوَارِ مُحَمَّدٍ (ص) تَبَاعَدُوا قُلْتُ جُعِلْتُ فِدَاكَ فِي كَمِ الزِّيَارَةُ قَالَ يَا عَلِيُّ إِنْ قَدَرْتَ أَنْ تَزُورَهُ فِي كُلِّ شَهْرٍ فَافْعَلْ قُلْتُ لَا أَصِلُ إِلَى ذَلِكَ لِأَنِّي أَعْمَلُ بِيَدِي وَ أُمُورُ النَّاسِ بِيَدِي وَ لَا أَقْدِرُ أَنْ أُغَيِّبَ وَجْهِي عَنْ مَكَانِي يَوْماً وَاحِداً قَالَ أَنْتَ فِي عُذْرٍ وَ مَنْ كَانَ يَعْمَلُ بِيَدِهِ وَ إِنَّمَا عَنَيْتُ مَنْ لَا يَعْمَلُ بِيَدِهِ مِمَّنْ إِنْ خَرَجَ فِي كُلِّ جُمُعَةٍ هَانَ ذَلِكَ عَلَيْهِ أَمَا إِنَّهُ مَا لَهُ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ مِنْ عُذْرٍ وَ لَا عِنْدَ رَسُولِهِ مِنْ عُذْرٍ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ قُلْتُ فَإِنْ أَخْرَجَ عَنْهُ رَجُلًا فَيَجُوزُ ذَلِكَ قَالَ نَعَمْ وَ خُرُوجُهُ بِنَفْسِهِ أَعْظَمُ أَجْراً وَ خَيْراً لَهُ عِنْدَ رَبِّهِ يَرَاهُ رَبُّهُ سَاهِرَ اللَّيْلِ لَهُ تَعَبُ النَّهَارِ يَنْظُرُ اللَّهُ إِلَيْهِ نَظْرَةً تُوجِبُ لَهُ الْفِرْدَوْسَ الْأَعْلَى مَعَ مُحَمَّدٍ وَ أَهْلِ بَيْتِهِ فَتَنَافَسُوا فِي ذَلِكَ وَ كُونُوا مِنْ أَهْلِهِ

11. My father narrated to me from ‘Abdillāh ibn Ja’far Al-Ĥimyari, through his Isnād from ‘Ali ibn Maymūn Al-Šā`igh, who said: Abū ‘Abdillāh (Imam Šādiq (a.s.)) said to me, “O ‘Ali! I have heard that some of our Shia allow one or two years to pass without going to the Ziyārah of Ĥusain (a.s.)!” I replied, “May I sacrifice myself for you! I know many people who are like this.” Imam (a.s.) said, “I swear to Allāh that they have turned their backs to their own fortune, they have declined Allāh’s rewards, and they have distanced themselves from nearness to Muĥammad (s.a.a.w.).” I asked, “May I sacrifice myself for you! How often should one go to his Ziyārah?” Imam (a.s.) replied, “O ‘Ali! If you can go to his Ziyārah once every month, do so.” I said, “I cannot do that because I am a manual labourer; people’s affairs are pending in my hands and I cannot be absent from my work for even one day.” Imam (a.s.) replied: You are excused, as are other manual labourers. I was referring to people other than manual labourers, people who have the possibility of going (to the Ziyārah) every week. Such people will have no excuse in front of Allāh and His Messenger (s.a.a.w.) on the Day of Judgment (if they do not go to the Ziyārah of Ĥusain (a.s.)). I asked, “Is it permissible for them to send someone on their behalf?” Imam (a.s.) replied: Yes. However, it is better for them and they will have a greater reward with their Lord if they go themselves, for He will see them sleepless at night and tired during the day (traveling to Ĥusain (a.s.)). Allāh will look at them with a glance which will inevitably cause them to dwell with Muĥammad (s.a.a.w.) and his family (a.s.) in the greatest places of Firdaws. Therefore, compete with one another in going (to the Ziyārah of Ĥusain (a.s.)) and be among those who adhere to it.

12 حَدَّثَنِي الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ مَحْبُوبٍ عَنْ صَبَّاحٍ الْحَذَّاءِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ مَرْوَانَ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ (ع) قَالَ سَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ زُورُوا قَبْرَ الْحُسَيْنِ (ع) وَ لَوْ كُلَّ سَنَةٍ مَرَّةً وَ ذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ

12. Ĥasan ibn ‘Abdillāh ibn Muĥammad ibn ‘Isā narrated to me from his father, from Ĥasan ibn Maĥbūb, from Šabbāĥ Al-Ĥadhā, from Muĥammad ibn Marwān, who said: I heard Abā ‘Abdillāh (Imam Šādiq (a.s.)) say: Go to the Ziyārah of the grave of Ĥusain (a.s.) even if it is only once a year.

13 حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي (رحمه الله) عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ إِدْرِيسَ وَ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ يَحْيَى عَنِ الْعَمْرَكِيِّ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ الْبُوفَكِيِّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى وَ كَانَ فِي خِدْمَةِ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ الثَّانِي (ع) عَنْ عَلِيٍّ عَنْ صَفْوَانَ بْنِ مِهْرَانَ الْجَمَّالِ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ (ع) فِي حَدِيثٍ طَوِيلٍ قُلْتُ لَهُ مَنْ يَأْتِيهِ زَائِراً ثُمَّ يَنْصَرِفُ مَتَى يَعُودُ إِلَيْهِ وَ فِي كَمْ يَوْمٍ يُؤْتَى وَ كَمْ يَسَعُ النَّاسَ تَرْكُهُ قَالَ لَا يَسَعُ أَكْثَرَ مِنْ شَهْرٍ وَ أَمَّا بَعِيدُ الدَّارِ فَفِي كُلِّ ثَلَاثِ سِنِينَ فَمَا جَازَ ثَلَاثَ سِنِينَ فَلَمْ يَأْتِهِ فَقَدْ عَقَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ (ص) وَ قَطَعَ حُرْمَتَهُ إِلَّا مِنْ عِلَّةٍ

13. My father narrated to me from Aĥmad ibn Idrǐs, and from Muĥammad ibn Yaĥyā, from ‘Amraki ibn ‘Ali Al-Būfaki, from Yaĥyā – who was the servant of Abǐ Ja’far the Second (Imam Jawād (a.s.)), from ‘Ali, from Šafwān ibn Mihrān Al-Jammāl, who said: I asked Abā ‘Abdillāh (Imam Šādiq (a.s.)) – as part of a longer Ĥadǐth, “After one returns from the Ziyārah of Ĥusain (a.s.), how soon should he return to his Ziyārah? And how often should one go to his Ziyārah? And what is the longest time one is allowed to stay away from his Ziyārah?” Imam (a.s.) replied: It is not permissible to stay away from his Ziyārah longer than a month (for those who live close to his grave). However, for those who live far from him, it (the Ziyārah of Ĥusain (a.s.)) should be (performed at least) once every three years. If three years pass and they do not go to his Ziyārah, they are (considered) ungrateful to the Messenger of Allāh (s.a.a.w.) and they have dishonoured him, except those who have a (valid) excuse.

14 حَدَّثَنِي عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ مُوسَى (رحمه الله) عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ هَاشِمٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ فَضَّالٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ عُقْبَةَ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ الْحَلَبِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ (ع) قَالَ قُلْتُ إِنَّا نَزُورُ قَبْرَ الْحُسَيْنِ (ع) فِي السَّنَةِ مَرَّتَيْنِ أَوْ ثلاث [ثَلَاثاً فَقَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ أَكْرَهُ أَنْ تُكْثِرُوا الْقَصْدَ إِلَيَّ زُورُوهُ فِي السَّنَةِ مَرَّةً قُلْتُ كَيْفَ أُصَلِّي عَلَيْهِ قَالَ تَقُومُ خَلْفَهُ عِنْدَ كَتِفَيْهِ ثُمَّ تُصَلِّي عَلَى النَّبِيِّ (ص) وَ تُصَلِّي عَلَى الْحُسَيْنِ ع

14. ‘Ali ibn Ĥusain ibn Mūsā narrated to me from ‘Ali ibn Ibrāhǐm ibn Hāshim, from his father, from Ibn Faďďāl, from ‘Ali ibn ‘Uqbah, from ‘Ubaydillāh Al-Ĥalabi, who said: I said to Abǐ ‘Abdillāh (Imam Šādiq (a.s.)), “We go to the Ziyārah of the grave of Ĥusain (a.s.) two or three times a year.” Abū ‘Abdillāh (a.s.) replied, “I do not like you to go there frequently. Go to his Ziyārah once a year.” I asked, “How should I send blessing on him (when I go to his Ziyārah)?” Imam (a.s.) replied, “Stand behind him (the grave) next to his shoulders and send blessing on the Prophet (s.a.a.w.) and then send blessing on Ĥusain (a.s.).”

15 وَ قَالَ الْعَمْرَكِيُّ بِإِسْنَادِهِ قَالَ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ (ع) إِنَّهُ يُصَلِّي عِنْدَ قَبْرِ الْحُسَيْنِ (ع) أَرْبَعَةُ آلَافِ مَلَكٍ- مِنْ طُلُوعِ الْفَجْرِ إِلَى أَنْ تَغِيبَ الشَّمْسُ ثُمَّ يَصْعَدُونَ وَ يَنْزِلُ مِثْلُهُمْ فَيُصَلُّونَ إِلَى طُلُوعِ الْفَجْرِ فَلَا يَنْبَغِي لِلْمُسْلِمِ أَنْ يَتَخَلَّفَ عَنْ زِيَارَةِ قَبْرِهِ أَكْثَرَ مِنْ أَرْبَعِ سِنِينَ

15. ‘Amraki (ibn ‘Ali) narrated through his Isnād that: Abū ‘Abdillāh (Imam Šādiq (a.s.)) said: Verily four thousand angels establish prayers next to the grave of Ĥusain (a.s.) (everyday) from dawn to dusk. Thereafter, they ascend (to the heavens) and are replaced by an equal number of angels who establish prayers (next to his grave from dusk) until dawn. A Muslim should not refrain from (going to) the Ziyārah of his grave for longer than four years.

16 وَ بِإِسْنَادِهِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْفَضْلِ عَنْ أَبِي نَابٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ (ع) قَالَ سَأَلْتُهُ عَنْ زِيَارَةِ قَبْرِ الْحُسَيْنِ (ص) قَالَ نَعَمْ تَعْدِلُ عُمْرَةً وَ لَا يَنْبَغِي التَّخَلُّفُ عَنْهُ أَكْثَرَ مِنْ أَرْبَعِ سِنِينَ

16. ‘Amraki (ibn ‘Ali) narrated through his Isnād from Muĥammad ibn Faďl, from Abǐ Nāb, who said: I asked Abā ‘Abdillāh (Imam Šādiq (a.s.)) about (the reward for) going to the Ziyārah of the grave of Ĥusain (a.s.). Imam (a.s.) said, “Yes. It is equal to performing an ‘Umrah and one should not refrain from (going to) him for longer than four years.”

17 حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ جَعْفَرٍ الْحِمْيَرِيُّ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سَالِمٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ حَمَّادٍ الْبَصْرِيِّ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الْأَصَمِّ عَنْ صَفْوَانَ الْجَمَّالِ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ (ع) وَ نَحْنُ فِي طَرِيقِ الْمَدِينِةِ نُرِيدُ مَكَّةَ فَقُلْتُ لَهُ يَا ابْنَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ مَا لِي أَرَاكَ كَئِيباً حَزِيناً مُنْكَسِراً فَقَالَ لِي لَوْ تَسْمَعُ مَا أَسْمَعُ لَشَغَلَكَ عَنْ مُسَاءَلَتِي قُلْتُ وَ مَا الَّذِي تَسْمَعُ قَالَ ابْتِهَالَ الْمَلَائِكَةِ إِلَى اللَّهِ عَلَى قَتَلَةِ أَمِيرِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ (ع) وَ عَلَى قَتَلَةِ الْحُسَيْنِ (ع) وَ نَوْحَ الْجِنِّ عَلَيْهِمَا- وَ بُكَاءَ الْمَلَائِكَةِ الَّذِينَ حَوْلَهُمْ وَ شِدَّةَ حُزْنِهِمْ فَمَنْ يَتَهَنَّأُ مَعَ هَذَا بِطَعَامٍ أَوْ شَرَابٍ أَوْ نَوْمٍ قُلْتُ لَهُ فَمَنْ يَأْتِيهِ زَائِراً ثُمَّ يَنْصَرِفُ فَمَتَى يَعُودُ إِلَيْهِ وَ فِي كَمْ يَوْمٍ يُؤْتَى وَ فِي كَمْ يَسَعُ النَّاسَ تَرْكُهُ قَالَ أَمَّا الْقَرِيبُ فَلَا أَقَلَّ مِنْ شَهْرٍ وَ أَمَّا بَعِيدُ الدَّارِ فَفِي كُلِّ ثَلَاثِ سِنِينَ فَمَا جَازَ الثَّلَاثَ سِنِينَ فَقَدْ عَقَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ (ص) وَ قَطَعَ رَحِمَهُ إِلَّا مِنْ عِلَّةٍ وَ لَوْ يَعْلَمُ زَائِرُ الْحُسَيْنِ (ع) مَا يَدْخُلُ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ وَ مَا يَصِلُ إِلَيْهِ مِنَ الْفَرَحِ وَ إِلَى أَمِيرِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَ إِلَى فَاطِمَةَ وَ الْأَئِمَّةِ وَ الشُّهَدَاءِ مِنَّا أَهْلَ الْبَيْتِ وَ مَا يَنْقَلِبُ بِهِ مِنْ دُعَائِهِمْ لَهُ وَ مَا لَهُ فِي ذَلِكَ مِنَ الثَّوَابِ فِي الْعَاجِلِ وَ الْآجِلِ وَ الْمَذْخُورِ لَهُ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ لَأَحَبَّ أَنْ يَكُونَ مَا ثَمَّ دَارَهُ مَا بَقِيَ وَ أَنَّ زَائِرَهُ لَيَخْرُجُ مِنْ رَحْلِهِ فَمَا يَقَعُ فَيْئُهُ عَلَى شَيْءٍ إِلَّا دَعَا لَهُ فَإِذَا وَقَعَتِ الشَّمْسُ عَلَيْهِ أَكَلَتْ ذُنُوبَهُ كَمَا تَأْكُلُ النَّارُ الْحَطَبَ وَ مَا تُبْقِي الشَّمْسُ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ ذُنُوبِهِ شَيْئاً فَيَنْصَرِفُ وَ مَا عَلَيْهِ ذَنْبٌ وَ قَدْ رُفِعَ لَهُ مِنَ الدَّرَجَاتِ مَا لَا يَنَالُهُ الْمُتَشَحِّطُ بِدَمِهِ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ وَ يُوَكَّلُ بِهِ مَلَكٌ يَقُومُ مَقَامَهُ وَ يَسْتَغْفِرُ لَهُ حَتَّى يَرْجِعَ إِلَى الزِّيَارَةِ أَوْ يَمْضِيَ ثَلَاثُ سِنِينَ أَوْ يَمُوتَ وَ ذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ بِطُولِهِ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي (رحمه الله) عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ إِدْرِيسَ وَ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ يَحْيَى جَمِيعاً عَنِ الْعَمْرَكِيِّ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ الْبُوفَكِيِّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى وَ كَانَ فِي خِدْمَةِ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ الثَّانِي (ع) عَنْ عَلِيٍّ عَنْ صَفْوَانَ بْنِ مِهْرَانَ الْجَمَّالِ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ (ع) قَالَ سَأَلْتُهُ فِي طَرِيقِ الْمَدِينَةِ وَ ذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ بِطُولِهِ

17. Muĥammad ibn ‘Abdillāh ibn Ja’far Al-Ĥimyari narrated to me from his father, from ‘Ali ibn Muĥammad ibn Sālim, from Muĥammad ibn Khālid, from ‘Abdillāh ibn Ĥammād Al-Bašri, from ‘Abdillāh ibn ‘Abdil Raĥmān Al-Ašam, from Šafwān Al-Jammāl, who said: I asked Abā ‘Abdillāh (Imam Šādiq (a.s.)) on the route from Madǐnah to Makkah, “O son of the Messenger of Allāh! Why do I see you so depressed, saddened, and grieved?” Imam (a.s.) replied, “If you could hear what I hear, you would have been distracted from asking me this question.” I asked, “What do you hear?” Imam (a.s.) replied: (I hear) the voices of the angels beseeching Allāh to curse the killers of the Commander of the Believers (a.s.) and the killers of Ĥusain (a.s.). And (I hear) the voice of lamentation of the Jinn on them (the Commander of the Believers and Ĥusain (a.s.)) and the intense grief and weeping of the angels who are around them. So who can enjoy food, drink, or sleep after hearing these voices?! I asked, “After one returns from the Ziyārah of Ĥusain (a.s.), how soon should he return to his Ziyārah? And how often should one go to his Ziyārah? And what is the longest time one is allowed to stay away from his Ziyārah?” Imam (a.s.) replied: Those who live close to his grave, should not go to his Ziyārah less than once a month. However, those who live far from him, should perform it (the Ziyārah of Ĥusain (a.s.)) (at least) once every three years. If three years pass and they do not go to his Ziyārah, they are (considered) ungrateful to the Messenger of Allāh (s.a.a.w.) and they have disowned him, except those who have a (valid) excuse. If the Zā`ir of Ĥusain (a.s.) knew how happy he made the Messenger of Allāh, the Commander of the Believers, Fāťimah, the Imams (a.s.), and the martyrs among our family, and how they pray for him, and the rewards which are prepared for him in this life and the rewards which have been preserved for him with Allāh in the Hereafter, he would have wished that his house was next to the grave of Ĥusain (a.s.) for as long as he lived. Verily when the Zā`ir leaves his dwelling (in Karbalā to return after the Ziyārah), his shadow does not cover anything without it praying for him. And when the sun shines (down) on him, it burns his sins just like fire burns firewood. The sun will not allow any of his sins to remain. Therefore, he will return without any sins while his rank has been elevated for him to a level which cannot be achieved even by those who are ensanguined with their own blood in the way of Allāh. Then an angel will be dedicated to him who will replace him (in performing the Ziyārah of Ĥusain (a.s.)) and who will seek forgiveness for him until he returns to the Ziyārah or until three years pass or until he dies (if he dies within the three year period). The above Ĥadǐth has also been narrated to me through the following chain: My father, from Aĥmad ibn Idrǐs, and from Muĥammad ibn Yaĥyā, from ‘Amraki ibn ‘Ali Al-Būfaki, from Yaĥyā – who was the servant of Abǐ Ja’far the Second (Imam Jawād (a.s.)), from ‘Ali, from Šafwān ibn Mihrān Al-Jammāl from Abǐ ‘Abdillāh (a.s.).
