1. My father, ‘Ali ibn Ĥusain and all of my scholars narrated to me from Sa’d ibn ‘Abdillāh ibn Abǐ Khalaf, from Aĥmad ibn Muĥammad ibn ‘Isā, from Muĥammad ibn Sinān, from Abǐ Sa’ǐd Al-Qammāť, from ‘Abdillāh ibn Abǐ Ya’fūr, who said: I heard Abā ‘Abdillāh (Imam Šādiq (a.s.)) ask one of his followers, “Do you go to the Ziyārah of the grave of Abǐ ‘Abdillāh, Ĥusain ibn ‘Ali (a.s.)?” The man replied, “Yes, I go to his Ziyārah once every two or three years.” Imam (a.s.) became angry and said, “I swear to Allāh, whom there is no god but He, that if you go to his Ziyārah (more frequently) you will be in a better state than you are presently.” The man asked, “May I sacrifice myself for you! Is it this valuable?” Imam (a.s.) replied: Yes, I swear to Allāh. If I told you about the merits of his Ziyārah and his grave, you would completely abandon going to Hajj and none of you (Shia) would ever perform Hajj. Woe unto you! Do you not know that Allāh chose Karbalā because of his grave as a safe and blessed Ĥaram before He chose Makkah as a Ĥaram? I (Ibn Abǐ Ya’fūr) said, “Allāh has made the performance of Hajj obligatory on the people but he has not mentioned the Ziyārah of the grave of Ĥusain (a.s.) (in Qur’an).” Imam (a.s.) replied: Even so. Verily this is a matter that Allāh has chosen in this (specific) way. Have you not heard the words of my father, the Commander of the Believers (a.s.), who said, “It is more appropriate to wipe the bottom of the foot (in Wuďū) than the top, but Allāh has made the latter (wiping the top) obligatory on His slaves.” Do you not think that it would have been better if ‘Arafāt were inside the Ĥaram because of its honour?! But Allāh has chosen it to be elsewhere.

2 أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْقَاسِمِ جَعْفَرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ قُولَوَيْهِ الْقُمِّيُّ الْفَقِيهُ (رحمه الله) قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي وَ عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ وَ جَمَاعَةُ مَشَايِخِي رَحِمَهُمُ اللَّهُ عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي خَلَفٍ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سِنَانٍ عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْقَمَّاطِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أَبِي يَعْفُورٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ (ع) يَقُولُ لِرَجُلٍ مِنْ مَوَالِيهِ يَا فُلَانُ أَ تَزُورُ قَبْرَ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ ع قَالَ نَعَمْ إِنِّي أَزُورُهُ بَيْنَ ثَلَاثِ سِنِينَ أَوْ سَنَتَيْنِ مَرَّةً فَقَالَ لَهُ وَ هُوَ مُصْفَرُّ الْوَجْهِ أَمَا وَ اللَّهِ الَّذِي لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا هُوَ لَوْ زُرْتَهُ لَكَانَ أَفْضَلَ لَكَ مِمَّا أَنْتَ فِيهِ- فَقَالَ لَهُ جُعِلْتُ فِدَاكَ أَ كُلُّ هَذَا الْفَضْلُ فَقَالَ نَعَمْ وَ اللَّهِ لَوْ أَنِّي حَدَّثْتُكُمْ بِفَضْلِ زِيَارَتِهِ وَ بِفَضْلِ قَبْرِهِ لَتَرَكْتُمُ الْحَجَّ رَأْساً وَ مَا حَجَّ مِنْكُمْ أَحَدٌ وَيْحَكَ أَ مَا تَعْلَمُ- أَنَّ اللَّهَ اتَّخَذَ [بِفَضْلِ قَبْرِهِ] كَرْبَلَاءَ حَرَماً آمِناً مُبَارَكاً قَبْلَ أَنْ يَتَّخِذَ مَكَّةَ حَرَماً قَالَ ابْنُ أَبِي يَعْفُورٍ فَقُلْتُ لَهُ قَدْ فَرَضَ اللَّهُ عَلَى النَّاسِ حِجَّ الْبَيْتِ وَ لَمْ يَذْكُرْ زِيَارَةَ قَبْرِ الْحُسَيْنِ (ع) فَقَالَ وَ إِنْ كَانَ كَذَلِكَ فَإِنَّ هَذَا شَيْءٌ جَعَلَهُ اللَّهُ هَكَذَا أَ مَا سَمِعْتَ قَوْلَ أَبِي أَمِيرِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ (ع) حَيْثُ يَقُولُ إِنَّ بَاطِنَ الْقَدَمِ أَحَقُّ بِالْمَسْحِ مِنْ ظَاهِرِ الْقَدَمِ وَ لَكِنَّ اللَّهَ فَرَضَ هَذَا عَلَى الْعِبَادِ أَ وَ مَا عَلِمْتَ أَنَّ الْمَوْقِفَ لَوْ كَانَ فِي الْحَرَمِ كَانَ أَفْضَلَ لِأَجْلِ الْحَرَمِ وَ لَكِنَّ اللَّهَ صَنَعَ ذَلِكَ فِي غَيْرِ الْحَرَمِ

2. Muĥammad ibn Ja’far Al-Qurashi Al-Razzāz narrated to me from Muĥammad ibn Ĥusain, from Muĥammad ibn Sinān, from Abǐ Sa’ǐd Al-Qammāť, from ‘Umar ibn Yazǐd Bayyā’ Al-Sāburi, who said: Abū ‘Abdillāh (Imam Šādiq (a.s.)) said: The land of the Ka’bah (once) said, “Who is like me, for Allāh has built His house on me, people from far distances come to me, and I have been chosen as Allāh’s Ĥaram and His safe sanctuary?” Allāh revealed to it: Stop speaking and calm down!!! I swear to My Glory and My Magnificence that your honour compared to the honour which I have granted to the land of Karbalā is like the amount of (a drop of) water on a needle that has been dipped in the sea. If it was not for the dust of Karbalā, I would not have honoured you. If it was not for that which is held within the land of Karbalā, I would not have created you nor would I have created the house about which you boasted. Therefore, settle down, calm down, and become humbled, lowly, humiliated, disgraced, and degraded in front of the land of Karbalā. Do not be proud nor arrogant in front of it or I will make you sink and throw you in the fires of Hell. The above Ĥadǐth has also been narrated to me through the following chain: My father and ‘Ali ibn Ĥusain, from ‘Ali ibn Ibrāhǐm ibn Hāshim, from his father, from Muĥammad ibn ‘Ali, from Abǐ Sa’ǐd ‘Abbād Al-‘Ušfuri, from ‘Umar ibn Yazǐd Bayyā’ Al-Sāburi, from Ja’far ibn Muĥammad (Imam Šādiq (a.s.)).

3 حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ الْقُرَشِيُّ الرَّزَّازُ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْحُسَيْنِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سِنَانٍ عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْقَمَّاطِ عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ يَزِيدَ بَيَّاعِ السَّابِرِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ (ع) قَالَ إِنَّ أَرْضَ الْكَعْبَةِ قَالَتْ مَنْ مِثْلِي وَ قَدْ بَنَى اللَّهُ بَيْتَهُ [بُنِيَ بَيْتُ اللَّهِ] عَلَى ظَهْرِي وَ يَأْتِينِي النَّاسُ مِنْ كُلِّ فَجٍّ عَمِيقٍ وَ جُعِلْتُ حَرَمَ اللَّهِ وَ أَمْنَهُ فَأَوْحَى اللَّهُ إِلَيْهَا أَنْ كُفِّي وَ قِرِّي فَوَ عِزَّتِي وَ جَلَالِي مَا فَضْلُ مَا فُضِّلْتِ بِهِ فِيمَا أَعْطَيْتُ بِهِ أَرْضَ كَرْبَلَاءَ إِلَّا بِمَنْزِلَةِ الْإِبْرَةِ غُرِسَتْ [غُمِسَتْ] فِي الْبَحْرِ فَحَمَلَتْ مِنْ مَاءِ الْبَحْرِ وَ لَوْ لَا تُرْبَةُ كَرْبَلَاءَ مَا فَضَّلْتُكِ وَ لَوْ لَا مَا تَضَمَّنَتْهُ أَرْضُ كَرْبَلَاءَ لَمَا خَلَقْتُكِ وَ لَا خَلَقْتُ الْبَيْتَ الَّذِي افْتَخَرْتِ بِهِ فَقِرِّي وَ اسْتَقِرِّي وَ كُونِي دُنْيَا مُتَوَاضِعاً ذَلِيلًا مَهِيناً غَيْرَ مُسْتَنْكِفٍ وَ لَا مُسْتَكْبِرٍ لِأَرْضِ كَرْبَلَاءَ وَ إِلَّا سُخْتُ بِكِ وَ هَوَيْتُ بِكِ فِي نَارِ جَهَنَّمَ وَ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي وَ عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ هَاشِمٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبَّادٌ أَبُو سَعِيدٍ الْعُصْفُرِيُّ عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ يَزِيدَ بَيَّاعِ السَّابِرِيِّ عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ (ع) وَ ذَكَرَ مِثْلَهُ

3. Abul ‘Abbās Al-Kūfi narrated to me from Muĥammad ibn Ĥusain ibn Abil Khaťťāb, from Abǐ Sa’ǐd Al-‘Ušfuri, from ‘Amr ibn Thābit, from his father, who said: Abū Ja’far (Imam Bāqir (a.s.)) said: Allāh, the Blessed and the Exalted, created, blessed, and sanctified the land of Karbalā twenty-four thousand years before He created the Ka’bah. Therefore, it was blessed and sanctified before the creation of any created being and it will remain this way until Allāh (ascends it to Paradise and) appoints it as the best land in Paradise. It will be the best abode in Paradise in which Allāh will make His friends abide.

4 حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ الْكُوفِيُّ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ أَبِي الْخَطَّابِ عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْعُصْفُرِيِّ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ ثَابِتٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ (ع) قَالَ خَلَقَ اللَّهُ تَبَارَكَ وَ تَعَالَى أَرْضَ كَرْبَلَاءَ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَخْلُقَ الْكَعْبَةَ بِأَرْبَعَةٍ وَ عِشْرِينَ أَلْفَ عَامٍ وَ قَدَّسَهَا وَ بَارَكَ عَلَيْهَا فَمَا زَالَتْ قَبْلَ خَلْقِ اللَّهِ الْخَلْقَ مُقَدَّسَةً مُبَارَكَةً وَ لَا تَزَالُ كَذَلِكَ حَتَّى يَجْعَلَهَا اللَّهُ أَفْضَلَ أَرْضٍ فِي الْجَنَّةِ وَ أَفْضَلَ مَنْزِلٍ وَ مَسْكَنٍ يُسْكِنُ اللَّهُ فِيهِ أَوْلِيَاءَهُ فِي الْجَنَّةِ

4. Muĥammad ibn Ja’far Al-Qurashi Al-Razzāz narrated to me from Muĥammad ibn Ĥusain ibn Abil Khaťťāb, from Abǐ Sa’ǐd, from some of his scholars, from Abil Jārūd, who said: ‘Ali ibn Ĥusain (Imam Sajjād (a.s.)) said: Allāh chose the land of Karbalā as a safe and blessed Ĥaram twenty-four thousand years before He created the land of the Ka’bah and chose it as a Ĥaram. Verily when Allāh, the Blessed and the Exalted, shall shake the earth and move it (on the Day of Judgment), Karbalā and (all of) its dust will ascend while it will be shining and pure. It will be placed in the best of the gardens and dwellings in Paradise. No one but the prophets and the messengers – or he said the Ulul ‘Azm from among the messengers – shall dwell in it. Verily it will shine among the gardens of Paradise like a shining star shines among the stars for the people of the earth. And its radiating light (will be so powerful that it) will blur the vision of all of the inhabitants of Paradise. The land of Karbalā shall cry out, “I am the sanctified, the blessed, and the purified land of Allāh which held (the body of) the Master of the Martyrs and the Master of the Youth of Paradise.” The above Ĥadǐth has also been narrated to me through the following chain: My father, ‘Ali ibn Ĥusain and all of my scholars, from ‘Ali ibn Ibrāhǐm, from his father, from Muĥammad ibn ‘Ali, from Abǐ Sa’ǐd ‘Abbād Al-‘Ušfuri, from someone, from Abil Jārūd, from ‘Ali ibn Ĥusain (a.s.).

5 حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ الْقُرَشِيُّ الرَّزَّازُ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ أَبِي الْخَطَّابِ عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ عَنْ بَعْضِ رِجَالِهِ عَنْ أَبِي الْجَارُودِ قَالَ قَالَ عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ (ع) اتَّخَذَ اللَّهُ أَرْضَ كَرْبَلَاءَ حَرَماً آمِناً مُبَارَكاً قَبْلَ أَنْ يَخْلُقَ اللَّهُ أَرْضَ الْكَعْبَةِ وَ يَتَّخِذَهَا حَرَماً بِأَرْبَعَةٍ وَ عِشْرِينَ أَلْفَ عَامٍ وَ أَنَّهُ إِذَا زَلْزَلَ اللَّهُ تَبَارَكَ وَ تَعَالَى الْأَرْضَ وَ سَيَّرَهَا رُفِعَتْ كَمَا هِيَ بِتُرْبَتِهَا نُورَانِيَّةً صَافِيَةً فَجُعِلَتْ فِي أَفْضَلِ رَوْضَةٍ مِنْ رِيَاضِ الْجَنَّةِ وَ أَفْضَلِ مَسْكَنٍ فِي الْجَنَّةِ لَا يَسْكُنُهَا إِلَّا النَّبِيُّونَ وَ الْمُرْسَلُونَ أَوْ قَالَ أُولُوا الْعَزْمِ مِنَ الرُّسُلِ وَ إِنَّهَا لَتَزْهَرُ بَيْنَ رِيَاضِ الْجَنَّةِ كَمَا يَزْهَرُ الْكَوْكَبُ الدُّرِّيُّ بَيْنَ الْكَوَاكِبِ لِأَهْلِ الْأَرْضِ يَغْشَى نُورُهَا أَبْصَارَ أَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ جَمِيعاً وَ هِيَ تُنَادِي أَنَا أَرْضُ اللَّهِ الْمُقَدَّسَةُ الطَّيِّبَةُ الْمُبَارَكَةُ الَّتِي تَضَمَّنَتْ سَيِّدَ الشُّهَدَاءِ وَ سَيِّدَ شَبَابِ أَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي وَ عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ وَ جَمَاعَةُ مَشَايِخِي عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ عَنْ عَبَّادٍ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْعُصْفُرِيِّ عَنْ رَجُلٍ عَنْ أَبِي الْجَارُودِ قَالَ قَالَ عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ وَ ذَكَرَ مِثْلَهُ

5. (My father, ‘Ali ibn Ĥusain and all of my scholars narrated to me from ‘Ali ibn Ibrāhǐm, from his father, from Muĥammad ibn ‘Ali, from Abǐ Sa’ǐd ‘Abbād Al-‘Ušfuri, from someone, from Abil Jārūd, who said): Abū Ja’far (Imam Bāqir (a.s.)) said: Ghāďiriyyah is the land on which Allāh spoke to Mūsā ibn ‘Imrān (a.s.) and He confided in Nūĥ (a.s.). It is the most honourable land with Allāh and if it was not so, Allāh would not have entrusted (the bodies of) His Divine Authorities and His prophets to it. Therefore, you should go to the Ziyārah of our graves in Ghāďiriyyah.

6 وَ رَوَى قَالَ أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ ع الْغَاضِرِيَّةُ هِيَ الْبُقْعَةُ الَّتِي كَلَّمَ اللَّهُ فِيهَا مُوسَى بْنَ عِمْرَانَ (ع) وَ نَاجَى نُوحاً فِيهَا وَ هِيَ أَكْرَمُ أَرْضِ اللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ وَ لَوْ لَا ذَلِكَ مَا اسْتَوْدَعَ اللَّهُ فِيهَا أَوْلِيَاءَهُ وَ أَنْبِيَاءَهُ- فَزُورُوا قُبُورَنَا بِالْغَاضِرِيَّةِ

6. (My father, ‘Ali ibn Ĥusain and all of my scholars narrated to me from ‘Ali ibn Ibrāhǐm, from his father, from Muĥammad ibn ‘Ali, from Abǐ Sa’ǐd ‘Abbād Al-‘Ušfuri, from someone, from Abil Jārūd, who said): Abū ‘Abdillāh (Imam Šādiq (a.s.)) said: Ghāďiriyyah is from the plains of Bayt Al-Maqdis.

7 وَ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ (ع) الْغَاضِرِيَّةُ تُرْبَةٌ مِنْ بَيْتِ الْمَقْدِسِ

7. My father and ‘Ali ibn Ĥusain both narrated to me from ‘Ali ibn Ibrāhǐm, from his father, from Muĥammad ibn ‘Ali, from Abǐ Sa’ǐd Al-‘Ušfuri, from Ĥammād ibn Ayyūb, who said: Abū ‘Abdillāh (Imam Šādiq (a.s.)) narrated from his fathers (a.s.), from the Commander of the Believers (a.s.), who said: The Messenger of Allāh (s.a.a.w.) said: My son will be buried in a land called Karbalā. It is the land which contained the Dome of Islam wherein Allāh saved the believers who believed in Nūĥ at the time of the flood.

8 وَ عَنْهُمَا بِهَذَا الْإِسْنَادِ عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْعُصْفُرِيِّ عَنْ حَمَّادِ بْنِ أَيُّوبَ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ (ع) عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ آبَائِهِ عَنْ أَمِيرِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ (ع) قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ (ص) يُقْبَرُ ابْنِي بِأَرْضٍ يُقَالُ لَهَا كَرْبَلَاءُ هِيَ الْبُقْعَةُ الَّتِي كَانَتْ فِيهَا قُبَّةُ الْإِسْلَامِ الَّتِي نَجَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهَا الْمُؤْمِنِينَ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا مَعَ نُوحٍ فِي الطُّوفَانِ

8. My father narrated to me through his Isnād from son of Maytham Al-Tammār, who said: Imam Bāqir (a.s.) said: Whoever spends the night of ‘Arafah in Karbalā and stays there until Eid will be protected by Allāh from evil throughout that year.

9 وَ بِإِسْنَادِهِ عَنْ مِيثَمٍ التَّمَّارِ عَنِ الْبَاقِرِ (ع) قَالَ مَنْ بَاتَ لَيْلَةَ عَرَفَةَ فِي كَرْبَلَاءَ وَ أَقَامَ بِهَا حَتَّى يُعَيِّدَ وَ يَنْصَرِفَ وَقَاهُ اللَّهُ شَرَّ سَنَةٍ

9. My father narrated to me through his Isnād from ‘Ali ibn Ĥarb, from Faďl ibn Yaĥyā, from his father, who said: Abū ‘Abdillāh (Imam Šādiq (a.s.)) said: Go to the Ziyārah of Karbalā and do not abandon it, for verily the best of the sons of the prophets is buried in it. Verily the angels went to the Ziyārah of Karbalā one thousand years before my grandfather, Ĥusain (a.s.), dwelled in it and not one night passes in which Jibrā`ǐl and Mǐkā`ǐl do not go to his Ziyārah. O Yaĥyā! Strive hard to go to that land.

10 وَ بِهَذَا الْإِسْنَادِ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ حَرْبٍ [الْحَارِثِ] عَنِ الْفَضْلِ بْنِ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ (ع) قَالَ زُورُوا كَرْبَلَاءَ وَ لَا تَقْطَعُوهُ فَإِنَّ خَيْرَ أَوْلَادِ الْأَنْبِيَاءِ ضُمِّنَتْهُ أَلَا وَ إِنَّ الْمَلَائِكَةَ زَارَتْ كَرْبَلَاءَ أَلْفَ عَامٍ مِنْ قَبْلِ أَنْ يَسْكُنَهُ جَدِّيَ الْحُسَيْنُ (ع) وَ مَا مِنْ لَيْلَةٍ تَمْضِي إِلَّا وَ جَبْرَائِيلُ وَ مِيكَائِيلُ يَزُورَانِهِ فَاجْتَهِدْ يَا يَحْيَى أَنْ لَا تُفْقَدَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ الْمَوْطِنِ

10. My father and all of my scholars narrated to me from Sa’d ibn ‘Abdillāh, from Aĥmad ibn Muĥammad ibn ‘Isā, from Ja’far ibn Muĥammad ibn ‘Ubaydillāh, from ‘Abdillāh ibn Maymūn Al-Qaddāĥ, who said: Abū ‘Abdillāh (Imam Šādiq (a.s.)) said: The Commander of the Believers (a.s.) and some of his companions passed by Karbalā. When he (a.s.) passed by it, his eyes became filled with tears and he said: This is where they will descend from their sumpters. This is where they will unpack. This is where their blood will be spilled. Bliss be for you, O land! The blood of the loved ones will be spilled on your grounds.

11 حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي وَ جَمَاعَةُ مَشَايِخِي رَحِمَهُمُ اللَّهُ عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَيْمُونٍ الْقَدَّاحِ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ (ع) قَالَ مَرَّ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ (ع) بِكَرْبَلَاءَ فِي أُنَاسٍ مِنْ أَصْحَابِهِ فَلَمَّا مَرَّ بِهَا اغْرَوْرَقَتْ عَيْنَاهُ بِالْبُكَاءِ ثُمَّ قَالَ هَذَا مُنَاخُ رِكَابِهِمْ وَ هَذَا مُلْقَى رِحَالِهِمْ- وَ هُنَا تُهْرَقُ دِمَاؤُهُمْ طُوبَى لَكِ مِنْ تُرْبَةٍ عَلَيْكِ تُهْرَقُ دِمَاءُ الْأَحِبَّةِ

11. My father and Muĥammad ibn Ĥasan both narrated to me from Ĥasan ibn Mattǐl, from Sahl ibn Ziyād, from ‘Ali ibn Asbāť, from Muĥammad ibn Sinān, from someone who narrated to him, who said: Abū ‘Abdillāh (Imam Šādiq (a.s.)) said: The Commander of the Believers, ‘Ali (a.s.), was traveling with some people and when they were at the distance of one or two miles before Karbalā, the Commander of the Believers (a.s.) went ahead of them. When he reached the place of the martyrdom of the martyrs (of Karbalā) he said, “Two hundred prophets, two hundred successors, and two hundred of the grandsons of the prophets have died here and all of them and all of their followers were martyrs.” Then the Commander of the Believers (a.s.) circulated that land on his mule with his legs withdrawn from the stirrups and said, “This is where they will descend from their sumpters and this is where the martyrs will be killed. No one from the past has preceded them in rank and no one in the future will (ever) attain their rank.”

12 حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي وَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ ره عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ مَتِّيلٍ عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَسْبَاطٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سِنَانٍ عَمَّنْ حَدَّثَهُ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ (ع) قَالَ خَرَجَ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ (ع) يَسِيرُ بِالنَّاسِ حَتَّى إِذَا كَانَ مِنْ كَرْبَلَاءَ عَلَى مَسِيرَةِ مِيلٍ أَوْ مِيلَيْنِ- تَقَدَّمَ بَيْنَ أَيْدِيهِمْ حَتَّى صَارَ بِمَصَارِعِ الشُّهَدَاءِ ثُمَّ قَالَ قُبِضَ فِيهَا مِائَتَا نَبِيٍّ وَ مِائَتَا وَصِيٍّ وَ مِائَتَا سِبْطٍ كُلُّهُمْ شُهَدَاءُ بِأَتْبَاعِهِمْ فَطَافَ بِهَا عَلَى بَغْلَتِهِ خَارِجاً رِجْلُهُ مِنَ الرِّكَابِ فَأَنْشَأَ يَقُولُ مُنَاخُ رِكَابٍ وَ مَصَارِعُ الشُّهَدَاءِ لَا يَسْبِقُهُمْ مَنْ كَانَ قَبْلَهُمْ وَ لَا يَلْحَقُهُمْ مَنْ أَتَى بَعْدَهُمْ

12. My father and all of my scholars narrated to me from Muĥammad ibn Yaĥyā Al-‘Aťťār, from Muĥammad ibn Ĥusain, from Muĥammad ibn Sinān, from ‘Amr ibn Thābit, from his father, who said: Abū Ja’far (Imam Bāqir (a.s.)) said: Allāh, the Exalted, created, blessed, and sanctified Karbalā twenty-four thousand years before He created the Ka’bah. Therefore, it was blessed and sanctified before the creation of any created being and it will remain this way. And Allāh will make it the best land in Paradise.

13 حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي (رحمه الله) وَ جَمَاعَةُ مَشَايِخِي عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ يَحْيَى الْعَطَّارِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْحُسَيْنِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سِنَانٍ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ ثَابِتٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ (ع) قَالَ خَلَقَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى كَرْبَلَاءَ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَخْلُقَ الْكَعْبَةَ بِأَرْبَعَةٍ وَ عِشْرِينَ أَلْفَ عَامٍ وَ قَدَّسَهَا وَ بَارَكَ عَلَيْهَا فَمَا زَالَتْ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَخْلُقَ اللَّهُ الْخَلْقَ مُقَدَّسَةً مُبَارَكَةً وَ لَا تَزَالُ كَذَلِكَ وَ يَجْعَلُهَا أَفْضَلَ أَرْضٍ فِي الْجَنَّةِ

13. All of my scholars including my father and my brother narrated to me from Aĥmad ibn Idrǐs, from Muĥammad ibn Aĥmad, from Muĥammad ibn Ĥusain, from Muĥammad ibn ‘Ali, from Abǐ Sa’ǐd Al-‘Ušfuri, from Abil Miqdām ‘Amr ibn Thābit, from his father, who said: Abū Ja’far (Imam Bāqir (a.s.)) said: Allāh, the Exalted, created, blessed, and sanctified Karbalā twenty-four thousand years before He created the Ka’bah. Therefore, it was blessed and sanctified before the creation of any created being and it will remain this way. And Allāh will make it the best land in Paradise. It will be the best abode in Paradise in which Allāh will make His friends abide. The above Ĥadǐth has also been narrated to me through the following chain: My father, my brother and ‘Ali ibn Ĥusain, from ‘Ali ibn Ibrāhǐm ibn Hāshim, from his father, from Muĥammad ibn ‘Ali, from Abǐ Sa’ǐd ‘Abbād Al-‘Ušfuri, from Abil Miqdām ‘Amr ibn Thābit, from his father, from Abǐ Ja’far (a.s.).

14 وَ رَوَى هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ جَمَاعَةُ مَشَايِخِنَا رَحِمَهُمُ اللَّهُ أَبِي وَ أَخِي وَ غَيْرُهُمْ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ إِدْرِيسَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَحْمَدَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْحُسَيْنِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْعُصْفُرِيِّ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ ثَابِتٍ أَبِي الْمِقْدَامِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ (ع) مِثْلَهُ وَ زَادَ فِيهِ وَ أَفْضَلَ مَنْزِلٍ وَ مَسْكَنٍ يُسْكِنُ اللَّهُ فِيهِ أَوْلِيَاءَهُ فِي الْجَنَّةِ حَدَّثَنِي بِهِ أَبِي وَ أَخِي وَ عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ ره عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ هَاشِمٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبَّادٌ أَبُو سَعِيدٍ الْعُصْفُرِيُّ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ ثَابِتٍ أَبِي الْمِقْدَامِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ (ع) وَ ذَكَرَ مِثْلَهُ مَعَ الزِّيَادَةِ

14. My father narrated to me from ‘Ali ibn Ibrāhǐm ibn Hāshim, from his father, from Muĥammad ibn ‘Ali, from Abǐ Sa’ǐd ‘Abbād Al-‘Ušfuri, from Šafwān Al-Jammāl, who said: I heard Abā ‘Abdillāh (Imam Šādiq (a.s.)) say: Verily Allāh, the Blessed and the Exalted, has elevated some lands and (bodies of) water above others. Some of these lands and waters boasted to others and some of them transgressed and they have all been punished for not being humble before Allāh. Therefore, Allāh empowered the polytheists over (the land of the) Ka’bah and made the water of Zamzam salty which has ruined its taste. Verily the land of Karbalā and the water of the Euphrates (River) were the first land and (body of) water which glorified Allāh, the Blessed and the Exalted. Therefore, Allāh blessed them and said to the land of Karbalā, “Speak of that with which Allāh, the Exalted, has honoured you, for verily the lands and the waters have boasted to one another.” The land of Karbalā said: I am the sacred and blessed land of Allāh. The (power to) cure has been placed in my dust and in my water, and I am not arrogant. Rather, I am humble and humiliated before He who has blessed me. I do not boast to those who are lower (in rank) than me. Rather, I am thankful to Allāh. Therefore, Allāh honoured it, increased His blessing on it for its humility, and rewarded it with Ĥusain (a.s.) and his companions. Then Abū ‘Abdillāh (a.s.) added, “Allāh elevates those who humble themselves before Him. And Allāh, the Exalted, degrades those who are arrogant.”
