1 حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي وَ جَمَاعَةُ مَشَايِخِي عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ يَحْيَى الْعَطَّارِ عَنْ حَمْدَانَ بْنِ سُلَيْمَانَ النَّيْسَابُورِيِّ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ الْيَمَانِيِّ عَنْ مَنِيعِ بْنِ الْحَجَّاجِ عَنْ يُونُسَ عَنْ صَفْوَانَ الْجَمَّالِ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ (ع) قَالَ مَنِ اغْتَسَلَ بِمَاءِ الْفُرَاتِ وَ زَارَ قَبْرَ الْحُسَيْنِ (ع) كَانَ كَيَوْمَ وَلَدَتْهُ أُمُّهُ صِفْراً مِنَ الذُّنُوبِ وَ لَوِ اقْتَرَفَهَا كَبَائِرَ وَ كَانُوا يُحِبُّونَ الرَّجُلَ إِذَا زَارَ [يُحِبُّونَ إِذَا زَارَ الرَّجُلُ] قَبْرَ الْحُسَيْنِ (ع) اغْتَسَلَ وَ إِذَا وَدَّعَ لَمْ يَغْتَسِلْ وَ مَسَحَ يَدَهُ عَلَى وَجْهِهِ إِذَا وَدَّعَ

1. My father and all of my scholars narrated to me from Muĥammad ibn Yaĥyā Al-‘Aťťār, from Ĥamdān ibn Sulaymān Al-Naysābūri, from ‘Abdillāh ibn Muĥammad Al-Yamāni, from Manǐ’ ibn Ĥajjāj, from Yūnus, from Šafwān Al-Jammāl, who said: Abū ‘Abdillāh (Imam Šādiq (a.s.)) said: Those who perform Ghusl with the water of the Euphrates (River) and then go to the Ziyārah of the grave of Ĥusain (a.s.) become sinless like the day their mothers gave birth to them, even if they had committed major sins. It is recommended that one performs Ghusl before going to the Ziyārah of the grave of Ĥusain (a.s.) and not when bidding farewell (to him), but rather wipe one’s hands over the face when bidding farewell.

2 حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ الْقُرَشِيُّ الرَّزَّازُ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْحُسَيْنِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ بَزِيعٍ عَنْ صَالِحِ بْنِ عُقْبَةَ عَنْ بَشِيرٍ الدَّهَّانِ قَالَ قُلْتُ لِأَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ (ع) فِي حَدِيثٍ طَوِيلٍ قَالَ وَيْحَكَ يَا بَشِيرُ إِنَّ الْمُؤْمِنَ إِذَا أَتَى قَبْرَ الْحُسَيْنِ ع عَارِفاً بِحَقِّهِ فَاغْتَسَلَ فِي الْفُرَاتِ ثُمَّ خَرَجَ كُتِبَ لَهُ بِكُلِّ خُطْوَةٍ حِجَّةٌ وَ عُمْرَةٌ مَبْرُورَاتٍ مُتَقَبَّلَاتٍ وَ غَزْوَةٌ مَعَ نَبِيٍّ مُرْسَلٍ أَوْ إِمَامٍ عَدْلٍ

2. Muĥammad ibn Ja’far Al-Qurashi Al-Razzāz narrated to me from Muĥammad ibn Ĥusain, from Muĥammad ibn Ismā’ǐl ibn Bazǐ’, from Šāliĥ ibn ‘Uqbah, from Bashǐr Al-Dahhān, who said: Abū ‘Abdillāh (Imam Šādiq (a.s.)) said – as part of a longer Ĥadǐth: Woe unto you, O Bashǐr! Verily when a believer goes to (the Ziyārah of) the grave of Ĥusain (a.s.) while knowing his rights and performs Ghusl with the water of the Euphrates (River), with every step that he takes, an accepted and purified Hajj and ‘Umrah and (the reward of) fighting (in the way of Allāh) along with one of Allāh’s messengers or with a Just Imam will be registered for him.

3 حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي (رحمه الله) عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ يَحْيَى وَ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ إِدْرِيسَ عَنِ الْعَمْرَكِيِّ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ عَنْ يَحْيَى وَ كَانَ فِي خِدْمَةِ الْإِمَامِ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ الثَّانِي (ع) عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سِنَانٍ عَنْ بَشِيرٍ الدَّهَّانِ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ (ع) وَ هُوَ نَازِلٌ بِالْحِيرَةِ وَ عِنْدَهُ جَمَاعَةٌ مِنَ الشِّيعَةِ فَأَقْبَلَ إِلَيَّ بِوَجْهِهِ فَقَالَ يَا بَشِيرُ حَجَجْتَ الْعَامَ قُلْتُ جُعِلْتُ فِدَاكَ لَا وَ لَكِنْ عَرَّفْتُ بِالْقَبْرِ قَبْرِ الْحُسَيْنِ (ع) فَقَالَ يَا بَشِيرُ وَ اللَّهِ مَا فَاتَكَ شَيْءٌ مِمَّا كَانَ لِأَصْحَابِ مَكَّةَ بِمَكَّةَ قُلْتُ جُعِلْتُ فِدَاكَ فِيهِ عَرَفَاتٌ فَسِّرْ لِي فَقَالَ يَا بَشِيرُ إِنَّ الرَّجُلَ مِنْكُمْ لَيَغْتَسِلُ عَلَى شَاطِئِ الْفُرَاتِ ثُمَّ يَأْتِي قَبْرَ الْحُسَيْنِ (ع) عَارِفاً بِحَقِّهِ فَيُعْطِيهِ اللَّهُ بِكُلِّ قَدَمٍ يَرْفَعُهَا أَوْ يَضَعُهَا مِائَةَ حِجَّةٍ مَقْبُولَةٍ وَ مَعَهَا مِائَةُ عُمْرَةٍ مَبْرُورَةٍ وَ مِائَةُ غَزْوَةٍ مَعَ نَبِيٍّ مُرْسَلٍ [إِلَى أعد [أَعْدَى عَدُوٍّ لَهُ] إِلَى أَعْدَاءِ اللَّهِ وَ أَعْدَاءِ الرَّسُولِ وَ ذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ

3. My father narrated to me from Muĥammad ibn Yaĥyā, and from Aĥmad ibn Idrǐs, from ‘Amraki ibn ‘Ali, from Yaĥyā – who was the servant of Imam Abǐ Ja’far the Second (Imam Jawād (a.s.)), from Muĥammad ibn Sinān, from Bashǐr Al-Dahhān, who said: I heard Abā ‘Abdillāh (Imam Šādiq (a.s.)) in Ĥǐrah (speaking) to a group of Shia surrounding him. He turned his face toward me and asked, “O Bashǐr! Did you go for Hajj last year?” I replied, “May I sacrifice myself for you! No, but instead I spent the Day of ‘Arafah next to the Grave – referring to the grave of Ĥusain (a.s.).” Imam (a.s.) said, “O Bashǐr! I swear to Allāh that you did not miss anything (from the blessings) that were in Makkah for those who were there.” I said, “May I sacrifice myself for you! Explain this to me, for (the blessing of being in) ‘Arafāt is (only available) in Makkah.” Imam (a.s.) replied: O Bashǐr! Verily every time one of you raises his foot or places it down walking toward the grave of Ĥusain (a.s.) while knowing his rights, after performing Ghusl on the shores of the Euphrates (River), Allāh will give you (the reward of) one hundred accepted Hajj and one hundred purified ‘Umrah and (the reward of) fighting in a hundred battles with one of Allāh’s messengers against His enemies and the enemies of the Messenger.

4 وَ حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ جَعْفَرٍ الْحِمْيَرِيُّ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سَالِمٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ حَمَّادٍ الْبَصْرِيِّ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الْأَصَمِّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ سَالِمٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ (ع) فِي حَدِيثٍ لَهُ طَوِيلٍ قَالَ أَتَاهُ رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ لَهُ هَلْ يُزَارُ وَالِدُكَ فَقَالَ نَعَمْ فَقَالَ مَا لِمَنِ اغْتَسَلَ بِالْفُرَاتِ ثُمَّ أَتَاهُ قَالَ إِذَا اغْتَسَلَ مِنْ مَاءِ الْفُرَاتِ وَ هُوَ يُرِيدُهُ تَسَاقَطَتْ عَنْهُ خَطَايَاهُ كَيَوْمَ وَلَدَتْهُ أُمُّهُ وَ ذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ بِطُولِهِ

4. Muĥammad ibn ‘Abdillāh ibn Ja’far Al-Ĥimyari narrated to me from his father, from ‘Ali ibn Muĥammad ibn Sālim, from Muĥammad ibn Khālid, from ‘Abdillāh ibn Ĥammād Al-Bašri, from ‘Abdillāh ibn ‘Abdil Raĥmān Al-Ašam, from Hishām ibn Sālim, who said: A man came to Abǐ ‘Abdillāh (Imam Šādiq (a.s.)) and asked – as part of a longer Ĥadǐth, “Should one go to the Ziyārah of your father (Ĥusain (a.s.))?” Imam (a.s.) replied, “Yes.” The man asked, “What is the reward for those who perform Ghusl with the water of the Euphrates (River) and then go to him (Ĥusain (a.s.))?” Imam (a.s.) replied, “If they perform Ghusl with the water of the Euphrates (River) with the intention of going to him, their sins will fall off of them (and they will become sinless) like the day their mothers gave birth to them.”

5 حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو مُحَمَّدٍ هَارُونُ بْنُ مُوسَى التَّلَّعُكْبَرِيُّ عَنْ أَبِي عَلِيٍّ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ هَمَّامِ بْنِ سُهَيْلٍ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ هابندار [مَابُنْدَادَ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ الْمُعَافَا الثَّعْلَبِيِّ عَنْ أَهْلِ رَأْسِ الْعَيْنِ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ جَعْفَرٍ الْهَمَانِيِّ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ عَلِيَّ بْنَ مُحَمَّدٍ الْعَسْكَرِيَّ (ع) يَقُولُ مَنْ خَرَجَ مِنْ بَيْتِهِ يُرِيدُ زِيَارَةَ الْحُسَيْنِ (ع) فَصَارَ إِلَى الْفُرَاتِ فَاغْتَسَلَ مِنْهُ كَتَبَ [اللَّهُ] مِنَ الْمُفْلِحِينَ فَإِذَا سَلَّمَ عَلَى أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ كَتَبَ اللَّهُ مِنَ الْفَائِزِينَ فَإِذَا فَرَغَ مِنْ صَلَاتِهِ أَتَاهُ مَلَكٌ فَقَالَ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ (ص) يُقْرِئُكَ السَّلَامَ وَ يَقُولُ لَكَ أَمَّا ذُنُوبُكَ فَقَدْ غُفِرَ لَكَ اسْتَأْنِفِ الْعَمَلَ

5. Abū Muĥammad Hārūn ibn Mūsā Al-Tal’ukbari narrated to me from Abǐ ‘Ali Muĥammad ibn Hammām ibn Suhayl, from Aĥmad ibn Mābundād, from Aĥmad ibn Mu’āfā Al-Tha’labi – who was from Ra`s Al-‘Ayn, from ‘Ali ibn Ja’far Al-Humāni, who said: I heard ‘Ali ibn Muĥammad Al-‘Askari (Imam Hādi (a.s.)) say: Those who leave their homes going toward the Ziyārah of Ĥusain (a.s.) and go to the Euphrates (River) and perform Ghusl with its water will be registered by Allāh as those who have achieved salvation. And once they say Salām to Abǐ ‘Abdillāh (Imam Ĥusain (a.s.)) they will be registered as the Winners. After they finish their prayers, an angel will come to them and say, “Verily the Messenger of Allāh (s.a.a.w.) conveys his Salām to you and tells you that your sins have been forgiven and that you should start again with good deeds.”

6 حَدَّثَنِي حُسَيْنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَامِرٍ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ عَلَوِيَّةَ الْأَصْفَهَانِيِّ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ الثَّقَفِيِّ رَفَعَهُ إِلَى أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ (ع) أَنَّهُ كَانَ يَقُولُ عِنْدَ [بَعْدَ] غُسْلِ الزِّيَارَةِ إِذَا فَرَغَ اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْهُ لِي نُوراً وَ طَهُوراً- وَ حِرْزاً وَ كَافِياً مِنْ كُلِّ دَاءٍ وَ سُقْمٍ وَ مِنْ كُلِّ آفَةٍ وَ عَاهَةٍ وَ طَهِّرْ بِهِ قَلْبِي وَ جَوَارِحِي وَ لَحْمِي وَ دَمِي وَ شَعْرِي وَ بَشَرِي وَ مُخِّي وَ عِظَامِي وَ عَصَبِي وَ مَا أَقَلَّتِ الْأَرْضُ مِنِّي- فَاجْعَلْهُ لِي شَاهِداً يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ وَ يَوْمَ حَاجَتِي وَ فَقْرِي وَ فَاقَتِي

6. Ĥusain ibn Muĥammad ibn ‘Āmir narrated to me from Aĥmad ibn ‘Alawiyyah Al-Išfahāni, from Ibrāhǐm ibn Muĥammad Al-Thaqafi, who narrated that: Abū ‘Abdillāh (Imam Šādiq (a.s.)) used to say the following when he performed the Ghusl of Ziyārah:                                       . O Allāh! Make this (Ghusl) as light, purification, and protection for me. And make it the prevention from every illness and disease and from every disability and injury. And purify my heart, my organs, my flesh, my blood, my hair, my skin, my brain, my bones, my nerves, and my mass with it. And make it my witness on the Day of Judgment: the day of my need, poverty, and destitution.

7 حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنْ هَمَّامِ بْنِ سُهَيْلٍ الْإِسْكَافِيُّ عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ الْفَزَارِيِّ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّوَّاسِيِّ عَمَّنْ حَدَّثَهُ عَنْ بَشِيرٍ الدَّهَّانِ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ (ع) قَالَ مَنْ أَتَى الْحُسَيْنَ بْنَ عَلِيٍّ (ع) فَتَوَضَّأَ وَ اغْتَسَلَ فِي الْفُرَاتِ لَمْ يَرْفَعْ قَدَماً وَ لَمْ يَضَعْ قَدَماً إِلَّا كَتَبَ اللَّهُ لَهُ حِجَّةً وَ عُمْرَةً

7. Muĥammad ibn Hammām ibn Suhayl Al-Iskāfi narrated to me from Ja’far ibn Muĥammad ibn Mālik Al-Fazāri, from Ĥasan ibn ‘Abdil Raĥmān Al-Rawāsi, from someone who narrated to him, from Bashǐr Al-Dahhān, who said: Abū ‘Abdillāh (Imam Šādiq (a.s.)) said: Those who go to (the Ziyārah of) Ĥusain ibn ‘Ali (a.s.) and perform Wuďū and Ghusl with the water of the Euphrates (River) do not raise their foot or place it down without Allāh registering a Hajj and an ‘Umrah for them.

8 حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي (رحمه الله) وَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ جَمِيعاً عَنِ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ حَسَنِ بْنِ أَبَانٍ عَنِ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ فَضَالَةَ بْنِ أَيُّوبَ عَنْ يُوسُفَ الْكُنَاسِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ (ع) قَالَ إِذَا أَتَيْتَ قَبْرَ الْحُسَيْنِ ع فَائْتِ الْفُرَاتَ وَ اغْتَسِلْ بِحِيَالِ قَبْرِهِ

8. My father and Muĥammad ibn Ĥasan both narrated to me from Ĥusain ibn Ĥasan ibn Abān, from Ĥusain ibn Sa’ǐd, from Faďālah ibn Ayyūb, from Yūsuf Al-Kunāsi, who said: Abū ‘Abdillāh (Imam Šādiq (a.s.)) said: When you go to the grave of Ĥusain (a.s.), go to the part of the Euphrates (River) closest to his grave and perform Ghusl with its water.

9 حَدَّثَنِي جَعْفَرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ الْمُوسَوِيُّ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ نَهِيكٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدٍ الْفِرَاشِيِّ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ الطَّحَّانِ عَنْ بَشِيرٍ الدَّهَّانِ عَنْ رِفَاعَةَ بْنِ مُوسَى النَّحَّاسِ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ (ع) قَالَ إِنَّ مَنْ خَرَجَ إِلَى قَبْرِ الْحُسَيْنِ (ع) عَارِفاً بِحَقِّهِ وَ بَلَغَ الْفُرَاتَ وَ اغْتَسَلَ فِيهِ وَ خَرَجَ مِنَ الْمَاءِ [فَاغْتَسَلَ بِمَاءِ الْفُرَاتِ وَ خَرَجَ] كَانَ كَمِثْلِ الَّذِي خَرَجَ مِنَ الذُّنُوبِ فَإِذَا مَشَى إِلَى الْحَائِرِ [الْحَيْرِ] لَمْ يَرْفَعْ قَدَماً وَ لَمْ يَضَعْ أُخْرَى إِلَّا كَتَبَ اللَّهُ لَهُ عَشْرَ حَسَنَاتٍ وَ مَحَا عَنْهُ عَشْرَ سَيِّئَاتٍ

9. Ja’far ibn Muĥammad ibn Ibrāhǐm ibn ‘Ubaydillāh Al-Mūsawi narrated to me from ‘Abdillāh ibn Nahǐk, from Muĥammad Al-Farrāsh (Muĥammad ibn Firās), from Ibrāhǐm ibn Muĥammad Al-Ťaĥĥān, from Bashǐr Al-Dahhān, from Rifā’ah ibn Mūsā Al-Nakhās, who said: Abū ‘Abdillāh (Imam Šādiq (a.s.)) said: Verily when a person travels toward the grave of Ĥusain (a.s.), knowing his rights, arrives at the Euphrates (River) and performs Ghusl in it, he will be like one who has stepped out of his sins as soon as he steps out of the water. And Allāh will register ten good deeds for him and erase ten of his bad deeds for every step that he takes as he walks toward the Hā`ir.
