1. My father and Muĥammad ibn Ĥasan, both narrated to me from Ĥusain ibn Ĥasan ibn Abān, from Ĥusain ibn Sa’ǐd, from Faďālah ibn Ayyūb, Šafwān, and Ibn Abǐ ‘Umayr, from Mu’āwiyah ibn ‘Ammār, who said: Abū ‘Abdillāh (Imam Šādiq (a.s)) said: Before going to Madǐnah or prior to entering it, perform a GHUSL. Then proceed to the grave of the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ and say Salām to him. Move to the pillar which is located on the right side by the head of the grave. Stand there with your left shoulder toward the grave, your right shoulder toward the pulpit of the Prophet ﷺ, and face QIBLAH, for this is the (closest) location to the head of the Prophet ﷺ. Then recite (the following): ﷺ I testify that there is no god but Allāh; He is alone and He has no partners, and I testify that Muĥammad ﷺ is His slave and messenger. I testify that you are the Messenger of Allāh and you are Muĥammad, son of ‘Abdillāh. I testify that you announced the messages of your Lord, you advised your nation, you fought in the way of Allāh, and you worshipped Allāh with wisdom and by giving good counsel until that which is certain (death) came to you. You fulfilled your obligations. You were kind toward the believers and harsh toward the disbelievers. Therefore, Allāh granted you the highest honoured position of the honourable ones. Praise be to Allāh who, through you, saved us from polytheism and from going astray. O Allāh! Send Your blessings, the blessings of Your high-ranked angels, the blessings of Your righteous slaves, the blessings of Your prophets who were sent as messengers, the blessings of (all of) the inhabitants of the heavens and the earths, and the blessings of everyone from the first to the last who sanctifies the Lord of the Worlds, on Muĥammad, Your slave, Your messenger, Your prophet, Your trustee, Your confidant, Your love, Your chosen one, Your special (slave), and the best of Your creation. O Allāh! Grant him the ladder and the WASǏLAH in Paradise, and resurrect him in the Praised Position which will be envied by everyone from the first to the last. : O Allāh! You said, “And had they, when they were unjust to themselves, come to you and asked forgiveness of Allāh and the Messenger had (also) asked forgiveness for them, they would have found Allāh Oft-returning (to mercy), Most Merciful” (4:64). And I have come to Your Prophet, repenting and asking for forgiveness for my sins, and I have turned to You through Your Prophet, the Prophet of Mercy, Muĥammad ﷺ. O Muĥammad! I have turned to Allāh, Your Lord and mine, through you, so that He forgives my sins. Then Imam (a.s) continued: If you have a request, face the Qiblah with your back toward the grave. Raise your hands and ask for your request. (If you do this) your request will more likely be granted In-Shā`allāh.

Hadith #2

2. Ja’far ibn Muĥammad ibn Ibrāhǐm Al-Mūsawi narrated to me from ‘Abdillāh ibn Nuhayk, from Ibn Abǐ ‘Umayr, from Mu’āwiyah ibn ‘Ammār who said: Abū ‘Abdillāh (Imam Šādiq (a.s)) said: After you finish your invocations next to the grave (of the Prophet ﷺ), proceed to the pulpit. Rub your hands on it and then hold its two bottom knobs. Rub your face and your eyes on them, for it is said that they cure the eyes. Thereafter, stand by the pulpit, praise Allāh, glorify Him, and then ask for your needs. The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ has said: There is a garden from the gardens of Paradise between my pulpit and my grave. My pulpit is placed over an oasis from the oases of Paradise and its pillars were built in Paradise. Imam (a.s) continued: Then go to the place (where) the Prophet ﷺ (used to pray) and establish as many prayers as you wish. Send blessings on Muĥammad and his family (a.s) when you want to enter or exit the Mosque of the Prophet ﷺ and establish prayers increasingly while you are in the Mosque of the Prophet ﷺ.

3. Abū ‘Abdil Raĥmān Muĥammad ibn Aĥmad ibn Ĥusain Al-‘Askari narrated to me from Ĥasan ibn ‘Ali ibn Mahziyār, from his father ‘Ali ibn Mahziyār, from ‘Ali ibn Ĥusain ibn ‘Ali ibn ‘Umar ibn ‘Ali ibn Ĥusain ibn ‘Ali ibn Abǐ Ťālib, from ‘Ali ibn Ja’far ibn Muĥammad, from his brother Abil Ĥasan Mūsā ibn Ja’far (Imam Kāżim (a.s)), from his father (Imam Šādiq (a.s)), who said: His grandfather (Imam Bāqir (a.s)) said: ‘Ali ibn Ĥusain (Imam Sajjād (a.s)) used to stand next to the grave of the Prophet ﷺ and say Salām to the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ and testify that he announced the message of Allāh. Then he used to recite any prayer that would come to his mind. Thereafter, he would lean his back on the very delicate green marble that is attached to the grave of the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ. He would lean his back on the grave and face the Qiblah, and say: O Allāh! I seek refuge with You in (all of) my affairs and I have leaned my back on the grave of Muĥammad, Your slave and Your messenger, and I have turned my face toward the Qiblah that You chose for Muĥammad. O Allāh! I find that I do not have the power to attain the good that I desire for myself, nor do I have the power to avert the harm I fear. (O Allāh!) I find that all affairs are in Your Hand and that there is no one more needy than I. I am in need of the good that You have given me. O Allāh! I ask You to decree that which is good for me because no one can keep away Your grace. O Allāh! I seek refuge with You from replacing my name, from changing my body, or from removing Your blessing from me. O Allāh! Adorn me with piety and beautify me with Your blessings. Give me a long, healthy life and sustain me with the ability to thank You for good health.

When he arrived at the grave, he placed his hand on it and said: I ask Allāh who selected you, chose you, guided you, and guided (the creation) through you, to send His blessing on you. Then he recited: “Verily Allāh and His angels send blessings on the Prophet: O you who believe! Send your blessings on him, and salute him with all respect” (33:56).

5. Ĥasan ibn ‘Abdillāh ibn Muĥammad ibn ‘Isā narrated to me from his father, from Ibrāhǐm ibn Abil Bilād, who said: Abul Ĥasan (Imam Kāżim (a.s)) asked me, “What do you recite in your salutation to the Prophet ﷺ?” I replied, “I recite that which is known and (commonly) narrated.” Imam (a.s) asked, “Should I not teach you something that is better than that which you recite?” I replied, “Yes. May I sacrifice myself for you.” As I was sitting there, Imam (a.s) wrote the following with his own hands for me, and he also read it to me: When you are standing next to his (the Prophet’s ﷺ) grave, recite (the following): ﷺ I testify that there is no god but Allāh; He is alone and He has no partners, and I testify that Muĥammad ﷺ is His slave and messenger. I testify that you are Muĥammad, son of ‘Abdillāh, and that you are the last of the prophets. I testify that you announced the messages of your Lord, you advised your nation, you fought in the way of your Lord, and you worshipped Him until that which is certain (death) came to you. And you fulfilled your obligations. O Allāh! Send Your blessing on Muĥammad, Your slave, Your messenger, Your confidant, Your trustee, Your chosen one, and the best of Your creation, (blessings which are) greater than any of the blessings You have sent on any of Your prophets or messengers. O Allāh! Send (Your) Salām on Muĥammad and the family of Muĥammad just as You sent Your Salām on Nūĥ “among the worlds.” Bestow Your favour on Muĥammad and the family of Muĥammad just as You bestowed Your favour “on Mūsā and Hārūn.” And bless Muĥammad and the family of Muĥammad just as You blessed Ibrāhǐm and the family of Ibrāhǐm. Verily You are the Praised, the Glorified. O Allāh! Send blessing on Muĥammad and the family of Muĥammad and have mercy on Muĥammad and the family of Muĥammad. . O Allāh! O Lord of the Sacred House! O Lord of the Sacred Mosque! O Lord of RUKN and MAQĀM! O Lord of the Sacred Land! O Lord of the lawful and the unlawful! O Lord of MASH’AR AL-ĤARĀM! Send my Salām to the soul of Muĥammad, Your Prophet.

You fought in the way of Allāh and worshipped Him with loyalty until that which is certain (death) came to you. May Allāh reward you with a greater reward than He has given to any (other) prophet for guiding his nation. O Allāh! Send (Your) blessing on Muĥammad and the family of Muĥammad, (blessings which are) greater than that which You sent on Ibrāhǐm and the family of Ibrāhǐm. Verily You are the Praised, the Glorified.

7. Muĥammad ibn Ya’qūb Al-Kulayni narrated to me from a group of our companions, from Sahl ibn Ziyād, from ‘Ali ibn Ĥassān, from one of our companions, who said: I saw Abal Ĥasan the First (Imam Kāżim (a.s)), Hārūn the (Abbasid) caliph, ‘Isā ibn Ja’far, and Ja’far ibn Yaĥyā all in Madǐnah next to the grave of the Prophet ﷺ. Hārūn said to Imam Kāżim (a.s), “Go ahead (and say Salām to the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ).” However, Imam (a.s) refused. So Hārūn went ahead and said Salām to the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ and then moved aside. Then ‘Isā ibn Ja’far asked Imam (a.s) to go ahead and say Salām to the Prophet ﷺ. However, Imam (a.s) refused. So ‘Isā moved forward and said Salām to the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ and then moved aside and stood with Hārūn. Then Ja’far ibn Yaĥyā asked Imam (a.s) to go ahead and say Salām to the Prophet ﷺ. However, Imam (a.s) refused. So Ja’far moved forward and said Salām to the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ and then he also moved aside and stood with Hārūn. Then Abul Ĥasan (a.s) moved forward and said: Salam to you, O father! I ask Allāh who selected you, chose you, guided you, and guided (the creation) through you, to send His blessing on you. So Hārūn said to ‘Isā, “Did you hear what he said?” “Yes,” ‘Isā replied. “I testify that he (the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ) is truly his father,” Hārūn said.

8. Muĥammad ibn Ĥasan ibn ‘Ali ibn Mahziyār narrated to me from his father, from his grandfather ‘Ali ibn Mahziyār, from ‘Ali ibn Ĥusain Al-‘Alawi son of ‘Ali ibn ‘Umar ibn ‘Ali ibn Ĥusain ibn ‘Ali ibn Abǐ Ťālib, from ‘Ali ibn Ja’far, from his brother Mūsā ibn Ja’far (Imam Kāżim (a.s)), from his father (Imam Šādiq (a.s)), who said: His father (Imam Bāqir (a.s)) said: My father, ‘Ali ibn Ĥusain (Imam Sajjād (a.s)), used to stand next to the grave of the Prophet ﷺ and say Salām to the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ and testify that he announced the message of Allāh. (O Allāh!) I find that all affairs are in Your hands and that there is no one more needy than I.

Salām to you and (may) Allāh’s Mercy and Blessings be upon you. Salām to you, O Messenger of Allāh! Salām to you, O Muĥammad ibn ‘Abdillāh! Salām to you, O chosen one from the creation of Allāh! Salām to you, O love of Allāh! Salām to you, O choice of Allāh! Salām to you, O trustee of Allāh! I testify that you are the Messenger of Allāh and that you are Muĥammad, son of ‘Abdillāh. I testify that you advised your nation, you fought in the way of your Lord, and you worshipped Him until that which is certain (death) came to you. May Allāh reward you with a greater reward than He has given to any (other) prophet for guiding his nation. O Allāh! Send Your blessing on Muĥammad and the family of Muĥammad, (blessings which are) greater than that which You sent on Ibrāhǐm and the family of Ibrāhǐm. Verily You are the Praised, the Glorified.
