 حَدَّثَنِی مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُوسَی بْنِ الْمُتَوَکِّلِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِی عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ الْحِمْیَرِیُّ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ مَحْبُوبٍ عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ سَالِمٍ عَنْ بَعْضِ أَصْحَابِ أَبِی عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ع قَالَ: مَا مِنْ مُؤْمِنٍ یُقَارِفُ فِی یَوْمِهِ وَ لَیْلَتِهِ أَرْبَعِینَ کَبِیرَهً فَیَقُولُ وَ هُوَ نَادِمٌ أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللَّهَ الَّذِی لا إِلهَ إِلَّا هُوَ الْحَیُّ الْقَیُّومُ- بَدِیعُ السَّماواتِ وَ الْأَرْضِ ذا [ذُو] الْجَلالِ وَ الْإِکْرامِ* وَ أَسْأَلُهُ أَنْ یُصَلِّیَ عَلَی مُحَمَّدٍ وَ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ وَ أَنْ یَتُوبَ عَلَیَّ إِلَّا غَفَرَهَا وَ لَا خَیْرَ فِیمَنْ یُقَارِفُ فِی کُلِّ یَوْمٍ أَکْثَرَ مِنْ أَرْبَعِینَ کَبِیرَهً.

1. It was narrated to me by Muhammad b. Musa b. al-Mutawakil who said it was narrated to me by Abdillah b. Ja’far al-Himyari from Ahmad b. Muhammad from al-Hassan b. Mahbub from Hisham b. Salim from some of the companions Abi Abdillah (a.s.) who said: Astaghfirullaahalladhee laa ilaaha illaa huwal h’ayyul qayyoomu badeeu’s samaawaati wal arz”i dhaljalaali wal ikraami wa as-aluhu any-yatooba a’lay and Allah does not forgive his sins; and there is no good in one who commits more than forty greater sins.”
